Did anyone else notice how inconsistent Michel's accent was?? Drove me nuts.
Last four words blew. Just so predictable.
Kelly Bishop is everything. She is just exquisite.
I did love all the cameos. They crammed a lot into those six hours.
Overall I liked it. I think they tried to indulge fans. I would have liked to have seen more wrap up for Paris and Rory is a spoiled little brat, but what else is new? I'm glad I watched it.

So I watched a FB live thing last night with Scott, Lauren, Alexis, and Kelly. First it was so dumb because a bunch of people in the audience hadn't watched the new episodes, so they couldn't actually discuss anything with spoilers and at the end, the mod was like "Well we asked for FB questions but every question has a spoiler so we can't do any. Sorry!" Like actually what she said paraphrased. It was so dumb!
But anyway, one of the mod's questions was about the criticism that Rory and Lorelei were mean, citing some of the fat-shaming stuff, and I was disappointed in Lauren's answer. Basically she was like "This is entertainment. It's 2016. It's just a show." I felt like she just blew it off as "not a big deal." I would have rather her said something like "Yeah, you know, it was cruel, but I think that shows these women are flawed blah blah blah" instead of acting like it was dumb to even criticize.

I want to see this. Is it still on Facebook? I love LG but she is a total Lorelai in real life with her babbling.
And I'm so glad people are finally on the Rory-hate train. She has always been my least favorite character out of the entire cast.

Yep, it's still there. If you go to the Gilmore Girls FB page and scroll back to last night, it's called the SAG-AFTRA panel. They don't come on the stage until around the 17:00 mark.
I'm rewatching some episodes from the original series, and I definitely agree that Rory is pretty terrible. I am currently on the episode where she skipped school and missed L's graduation from business school so that she could visit Jess in NYC. Then when she returned she again made it all about her.

I didn't understand Tristan's revival. I was thinking "is Chad Michael Murray really going to make an appearance?" And this is rude, but he really married Francie?
Emily's growth was fantastic. I loved the last DAR meeting. I always felt so bad that she was "stuck" in that life (although I'd love a mansion, a staff and her wardrobe), I'm glad she's finally free.
Do people really try to do the "Wild" hike? I loved "book or movie"?
Finally, did we know (or care) that Michele was gay in the original series? I don't think I ever thought of it since he was always working out so hard for the love life "he didn't have". I wish they would have closed that up if we was going to stay at the new expanded Dragonfly or still leave.

I thought it was strange they never really focused on Lane's kids. And the fact that Lane and Zach were out all the time without the kids. I just found it strange.
Also, Rory has never grown much. I felt like she was still late teens or early 20s. There was no maturity what so ever.
Can someone help me with this? It's bugging me about Sookie. So was she just not at the Dragonfly for two years or not in Stars Hollow? Because we are supposed to believe she left Jackson, Davy and Martha to do her food journey thing?
And if she was just not at the Dragonfly then why did Lorelai act like she hadn't seen her in a while? They live in the same town.
Though when we finally see Sookie I though it was a half assed greeting for two best friends who supposedly hadn't seen in other in two years.
Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't Lane and Zach living in Sookie's house? I just assumed they moved as a family but Jackson still farmed.
I think the whole AYITL would make more sense if you imagine it being right after season 7. A 23/24 yr old Rory floundering makes sense. She finishes covering Obama's campaign and is having trouble figuring out what is next. Her fooling around with Logan would even make sense.
L&L figuring out what they want in their relationship makes sense
This happening so much later makes it less believable. I wish she had adjusted course and not been so stuck on sticking with telling the story she would've told in season 7.
Peony Party I need to rewatch because I didn't catch that they were in Sookie's house. So then Sookie no longer lives in Stars Hollow?
I mean really we should NOT have to ask these questions as viewers and fans. Take the 10 fucking minute musical out and use that time to explain what is going on.
And hopecounts I agree and said the same thing to my husband. This would all make more sense if it was taking place right after season 7. Rory's story and Luke and Lorelai getting married and talking about kids.
I love GG like the dickens but I think they could have done a way better job with the writing. There should not be more unanswered questions after 6 hours of show.
I binged watched the whole original series and then binged these four updates. It was VERY obvious which character's storylines were retro-fitted, which character's storylines were afterthoughts and which were organic. Michel- he got married, thinking about a kid and needs a bit more out of his career. Real and organic, and still Michel. Loreali and Luke- kicking it for ten years, no questions asked, Loreali still not wanting to go into her moms house without Rory like a petulant child, Luke still awkward around Emily after 10 years- not organic and not probably past year three. Lane had 2 ( or more?) kids grocery shopped and played in the band at secret bars that had to be whisper- quiet, she was obviously an afterthought, still.
When the series started Loreali was 32, with a smart, serious, sweet 16 girl. We got to see how much Loreali had to mature, but we also got to see how far she had come from a homeless, hotel maid , teenage daughter. Loreali evolved while Rory devolved. Rory started out as the more serious one and turned into a jet setting, couch crashing, freelancing other woman at 32.
It always kind of bugged me that Loreali was held up as this perfect mom who raised a perfect kid, when logistically there was some big problems. I like that Rory did end up a bit entitled and conflicted.
I hated what they did to April. This once incredibly well adjusted kid who sought out her father, and handled a move across the country so well and happily/- loses her sense of humor and self confidence before going off to grad school? Nope.
That said- it was fun to watch and I love the idea of Rory finding herself as a mom. It worked out so beautifully for Loreali.

I picked up on Lane and Zack living in Sookie's house, but only because it looked familiar. I agree they needed to explain how they just randomly owned the house. And I'm confused too, did Sookie and Jackson split up and he took the kids? Didn't they have 3 as Sookie was pregnant in season 7?
For some reason finally showing Mr. Kim was annoying. I know they'd "mention" him from time to time, but I kind of took it as he passed away and they never really spoke about that. Listening to part of the Gilmore Guys, I think that was a fan thing.
I want to re-watch, but will skip the summer musical. Might have to skip the funeral scene and the scene of Rory writing in her grandfather's office as tears might have run down my face the first time.

Urgh I just finished! I was really surprised and a little disappointed by Rory's career, especially after ASP chastised all the fans for mostly focusing on her love life all this time. I didn't expect her to be Christiane Amanpour at 32 but I did think she would be further along towards reaching her goal than she was! Especially because it seemed like she had a pretty great career in Winter. It was strongly implied that she was never home because she was constantly traveling for work and writing assignments. Then it all falls apart a few months later to the point where she just gives up on journalism all together? She was such a go getter in high school and college, which was one of the reasons so many of us loved her. She was a much more realistic portrayal of female ambition than most teen shows (they showed how much work and effort she had to put into her grades, for one thing). She had an amazing opportunity at the end of season 7, which they never even mentioned?? (I know ASP hates season 7 but come on, it exists). I just thought she'd be further along by 32. The Rory Gilmore we knew from the original series would never show up to an interview totally unprepared. What was that about? That's early 20s flailing, not 32 imo. I know the writers wanted her to end up pregnant and single by the end of the series but she could have still had a career. She could have raised her baby alone in Brooklyn. It would still be pretty "full circle" ish (ugh, the cliche) but showing growth through the generations and keeping within more realistic bounds of what we know about Rory's character and goals.
eta: sorry for the rant! I expect this has already been mentioned in here several times. Just had to get this off my chest! lol

This has always bugged me! People complain about her immaturity and she definitely didn't have her personal life together (love life, relationship with parents) and she could act silly but she also very much had her shit together. I think her parenting style worked to some degree so long as neither left the bubble of stars hollow (though didn't seem to work within the larger context of stars hollow) but was a disaster once Rory went outside the bubble.
Despite their ages, though, I wonder if there would be a similarity in how motherhood affects them. Lorelai's life was a mess before she got pregnant. Rory's life is a mess and now she's pregnant. Maybe it will force her to get her life together just as it did to Lorelai.SaveSave

This is exactly what I thought. This is obviously the story she wanted to tell right after Rory graduated from Yale. There was too long of a time break for this where basically nothing had changed for many of the characters.

I also thought this but bit my tounge. I guess I can see some selfishness. Sure there's things she wants to do her way, and she will fight with her mom, but if you had a bad mother daughter relationship growing up you'd get this. I guess it's hard for me to wrap my mind around how a single mom who owns a house at 32, that her parents didn't buy her is selfish.

I think selfishness in this case is in the eye of the beholder. I can see how Emily views Lorelai as selfish, though I also understand why Lorelai was unhappy in her parents home and decided to leave. I also give her a lot of leeway with how she did it because she was so young and don't fault her for any of her decisions (not marrying Chris as a teen, striking out on her own and supporting herself and her daughter, etc., not pushing for more involvement from a father that was clearly not interested in making his child a priority). All of those choices were the best ones she could make in her situation when she was still just in survival mode. The thing with GG is that there is so much gray area. ASP does do a good job of showing both sides. SaveSave
Lorelai isn't selfish, she's self-centered. A trait she inherited from her mother and passed onto Rory. Lorelai and Emily both were very self-sacrificing- for Rory and Richard, respectively. I find that redemptive about both women.
Rory never had to sacrifice her self interests, though. I mean, she didn't even give up Logan to follow her own career path- she is still carrying on with him 10 years later, after he is engaged.

Yes, self-centered, not selfish. A good point to clarify!
And probably explains why Lorelai and Emily are far more compelling characters than Rory. She really irritates em. Even at 32, she's still expecting her mom to give and do things for her to which she is not entitled while also expecting her to turn a blind eye towards her terrible choices bc otherwise she will just cut her off.
Immediately after AYITL, I was doubtful they would follow it up with more but now I'm 50/50. The only thing is, unless Rory changes drastically, I really don't want to watch a show centered on her. I'll watch Lorelai and Emily all day long, though, especially together. SaveSave
Since this thread is still going, can I point out the absurdity at the couch hopping and box scattering? Does she need 3 places with in an hour to crash at when "in town"? She would go from New York to Stars hollow to Hartford in a day on the regular. But now she needs two couches to crash on *in* Stars Hollow? And she is broke so why is she shipping shit to her practically married lover in London from Queens? Why does Lane need boxes? Does she have so much shit that she has to intercity disperse? Why not eBay some if she is soooooo broke. That was dumb writing, or an attempt to show how self-centered a girl is to ship herself stuff to her "married with kids" BFF in order to be able to say she isn't moving home with mom,

YES. And Emily got rid of a tone of shit. THere's room for ALL Rory's crap at her house.
Or in Lorelai's presumably empty garage since the band is out of there.
Or in the apartment over the diner since Luke lives at Loralei's.

I also didn't understand the 3 cell phones. Maaaaybe 2 if you have a real company phone and a personal phone, but a 3rd that "only works in Stars Hollow"?

Not to mention the cost of shipping the damn boxes all over the place. SH isn't that far from NY. She could have hired movers and rented a storage unit like a normal person for quite a while for as much as she likely spent.
I swear, I don't think the Palladinos give one thought beyond "this would be an amusing running gag" to get to the "but completely ridiculous and nonsensical" thought for a lot of things. Which is fine, to a degree, but less forgivable in these mini-movies than it was in the OS. SaveSave

Jackson, Davey and Martha all live with sookie in her new place. She told a story about them at the farm. Yes, Laine and Zack live in their old house. I'm assuming it is because sookie moved to chase that dream. All of that made sense to me.
The only story arc I liked was that of Emily. I absolutely loved the DAR scene in which she just let it fly. And the house she bought in Nantucket was simply gorgeous and full of light, everything the old Gilmore house was not.
