Yeah preteens can be horrific over this type of thing. Basically preteens are all about conformity so anything that doesn't conform (like a used purse) can be cause for significant ridicule. It depends on the school and group dynamics though, at some any LV would be a total score and bonus social points at other s anything but the newest style would get ridicule
How would the fellow preteens even know the bag is used? It's used the moment you carry it.
Something about hormones at that age, they can sniff it out. Like bloodhounds trained by exposure to celeb culture and Instagram.
My dogs are getting LV collars, leashes, strollers and luggage.
I bought my cat a speedboat and am taking my in utero kid to see Hamilton.
Actually the second one is true.
It's no Hamilton, but my daughter was already an international traveler before she was born. Three weeks in the UK - and me unable to drink anything but ginger ale and sparkling water. This kid better appreciate my sacrifice! lol
It's a shame Elle isn't here or she could tell us about the $5,000 BRAND NEW bag she bought for her dog. But only the pretty one. The other two got used bags.
Full size (Caroline and Marie Grace) plus a bitty baby, because I have zero chill.
I think I saw Marie Grace on clearance.Â
It's true. She was on sale. I paid full price for Caroline, though, like a sucker.
I need to learn some self restraint though because for every GOTY, I've paid full price only for them to be on sale at some point during the year. I tell myself that we get joy out of the goty all year long and that's worth paying full price.

Is this the post where I talk about the Christmas my 2yo got two AG dolls? JUST ASKING.
I have a lot of pent up aggression from the past month, so I figured maybe I could find a fight here? Let me know!
DD got one last Christmas from her godmother. My mom told me a few weeks ago she bought her a second one. I'm no better though-my youngest brother chipped in with us and we bought my niece one for Christmas. #partoftheproblem
I've bought a purse used before. It wasn't even designer.
I have 3 "designer" purses that were all purchased used.
The designers are Coach, Michael Kors, and Kate Spade
Maybe I could have sprung for $350 instead of $150 to buy them, but then I got to buy $200 worth of other stuff with the money I saved.
I probably am not cool enough to be posting in this thread.
ETA: Also it never occurred to me to be embarrassed by this. I come from the kind of money that likes to brag about finding a good sale at Kohls, I guess.

There's a rush that comes with typing SOLD into a facebook BST group for used clothes that my children will wear twice. Seeing those slower SOLDs come through ten seconds later HAHA. I could afford them new, but I'll spend basically the same amount on them just for the game.
I see nothing wrong with the mom's purchase, or buying used luxury goods, as long as they're in good condition. Buying used or borrowing is a styling trick. So how can I slam lay people for doing the same.
If it's something the kid wanted for the holidays, and mom had the opportunity, I think it's cool that the went the used route vs. buying an LV brand new for the younger set. If the daughter likes bags, the daughter can learn to take care of it. Then, eventually branch into buying new luxury goods when she's older, and can care for them properly.
Side note: We go out of our way to buy used items for the girls. We want to eliminate the stigma. We don't want them getting beyond themselves, and mocking or looking down on people who may not have the option. Just because we can get everything brand new, doesn't mean we'd want to go that route.
Buying used, is really no different to me than girls who inherit luxury goods from their mothers, grandmothers, etc. As long as the person before keep it in good condition, it's fair game. Some girls just don't have a lineage of deep pockets.
This is where I am. First off, I do like LV so take this for what it's worth: it takes years for the leather finish to "age." When you get new, you have a very light leather, a look I personally do not care for, so if someone likes LV, then buying used is actually a great option, provided it's been verified. I personally have a vintage LV, which I love. Of course, I had to take it in for a quick repair recently and found out it was one of the last years they made it in Paris. LV stamps their serial numbers in the bags and the origin can be easily verified.
I feel like if a young boy asked for a game system, most people would shrug, and no one would call it "tacky" or "ostentatious" or superficial.
eclaires I want to come to your house and play with your AG dolls.
Sometimes I think it's more for me than Scarlett. I think eventually I may open some sort of AG playhouse with books and dolls for kids to share my collection. I had so much fun doing the holiday set up we did and doing all their hair. I have fancy wig brushes and everything lol.
I've started buying up Ruthie and Kit stuff as it pops up on sale and have Samantha and several of her items in a closet. Scarlett is more into the GOTY and Wellie Wishers but I like the historical dolls. She's going to lose her shit over Gabriella McBride the upcoming GOTY who is a tap dancer.
eclaires, DD2 would be so happy to be your daughter right now! She wants Melody so bad right now, but it's not in the budget.
Melody is so awesome! It hurts my doll collector heart that Scarlett put her in non-historically appropriate clothes but that's actually Scarlett's favorite outfit she's wearing because she insisted Melody had to have the best outfit because Donald (in the Melody movie) was mean to her. I figured that was actually progress since usually the best or newest outfit goes to Isabelle who I think she sees as herself in a way because Isabelle was the first doll she was super into (blond dancer) and identified with.
