imapepper and others who want to help, Cobalt Advocates is a PSO in Colorado that is affiliated with this group. They stopped placing people in homes because of Covid and are asking for donations to cover those costs. I have a recurring donation set up with them.
sproctopus - absolutely, I think all stories of abortion should be shared if someone wants to share their experience.
Oh-- I should've said-- that wasn't directed at anyone here! I see how it (the sharing of TMFR or medically necessary reasons) can appear that way from other perspectives. Everyone here has been wildly supportive and nothing but that to me and others who have shared. ❤️

I need someone to explain to me the religious right's/Republicans'/anti-every-human-right-ever-Americans' end game. What is the end game? What is the last stop for this runaway train? A theocracy? The Handmaid's Tale? A return to 1830's America? Something else? This group seems hell-bent on keeping their populace poor, sick, stuck and stupid. Why are millions of Americans falling for this crapactual total bullshit?
Please, someone, tell me what the goal is. Because I can't wrap my head around where this is all going at all.

Christian theocracy where white men have total power and control.
notsopicky , liking in solidarity because I don't get it either. All I can muster together is that they want the white men in control and in charge of all the important political and money stuff again.
I am having so many flashbacks this weekend growing up as a non-Catholic forced (by my parents) to attend Catholic school in the early 90s. I remember in 7th grade the nuns were shocked at all the Clarence Thomas/Anita Hill hearings being broadcasted on TV. For some reason we watched some of this on TV in our class and I don't recall why. And then in 8th grade, my lay teachers told me that George Bush was the candidate of choice because abortion. At the time, my naive 13 year old brain didn't know what rape or abortion were. But I could process that these adults around me were really into pushing their opinions on these 2 decisive topics onto other people's opinions about these topics.
And here we are over 30 years later and Clarence Thomas is among those that made my 8th grade teachers' ideologies come to fruition. AND I remember these teachers going on back then about how parents should get tuition vouchers from the government for those families that choose a Catholic education and the Supreme Court is doing exactly that over in Maine.
My adult self is having a very hard time processing all of this.
A meme I saw today got me thinking about this- there are clearly many reasons women get abortions regardless of who the father is. But - in cases where it's the result of an affair, rape, or any situation where the paternity may be in question or the father doesn't want people to know/ doesn't want to take responsibility, the one thing that we have today that we didnt' have 50 years ago is highly accurate DNA paternity tests.
If we're going to force women to give birth, I hope we start seeing more "forced" child support. And I very much hope that this directly affects many of these conservative asshole men who supported this ruling.

I agree. The reddit also lists resources, too. I've looked at a few sites so far, including the one you linked, and haven't even found anything for my area. I'm still looking though so I can refer to those.

Yes and go all in. Child support and any insurance or government benefits start from the moment of conception. Life insurance for the fetus where there is payout if there is a miscarriage. Pregnant women can ride solo in HOV lanes since there is two lives in the car.
I’m so angry. I’m not sure I’ve been here, ever. I’m angry for my girls that they will live in a world where they don’t have control over their own damn bodies. I’m terrified for my sister and two college roommates who are abortion providers and whose lives just got much harder.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Also, it’s completely hypocritical of the SCOTUS to take this stance when literally the day before they overruled a state’s ability to make laws about concealed carry. So… folks can miss me with that BS.
And you can't force vaccines to help alieve a GLOBAL PANDEMIC, but can regulate what a woman does with her body. If it's up to states for abortion, it's up to states to force vaccines. Don't like it...move. although sadly states who supported vaccines have backed down.
Or mAsks. Fucking masks are more invasive than carrying a pregnancy to term. Fuckkkkkkk

Just read an article where a bunch of GOP operatives were saying that they don’t think Roe being struck down will affect the outcome of the midterms because “people will see that their lives don’t change at all” and will be more worried about gas prices.
And like there definitely are people who won’t care because it doesn’t affect them. Maybe that’s the majority - I have lost faith in people mostly so it wouldn’t surprise me. But I also think it really speaks to the GOP ethos that this is how their operatives think - so many in the GOP really only care about getting theirs, and so the idea that you would vote based on horrible things happening to someone else is not something that they worry about because they wouldn’t do it.
My employer sent out a system wide (multi-state) email essentially silencing us.
And mine sent one saying we will continue to provide health care to our patients.
I'm sorry, saudade. Considering the majority of healthcare workers are female, and many men in our age demographic support a woman's right to choose, I wonder what they would do if people said F you and aren't silenced. The healthcare industry is in a staffing crisis as it is.

My brain went the opposite way - increased domestic violence to avoid paying child support
I don’t think the GOP cares that 70% of Americans support abortion rights and the idea that they will suffer consequences in November shouldn’t be taken for granted. They did this because they knew they could get away with it without electoral consequences. They have SCOTUS in their pocket, a dead Voting Rights Act, gerrymandered states, a willingness to break the law and defy all norms, the electoral college, the police, and heavily armed supporters.
Also I fear that more dead women will change minds. They spent 2020 burying their loved ones to COVID only to turn out In record numbers for Trump that November. Everything about their track record on guns and health care and public safety suggest to me that they are fine with some dead family if it means they get to keep their guns and live out their lives in a white supremacist bubble.
As to the surge in demand for care at clinics in safe states surrounded by dangerous ones - this is how they break your electorate. Dump their problems on to the blue states to drain those state budgets, and tear apart the communities where those clinics are by flooding them with poor, desperate people, and violent and angry protestors.
Look at what’s happening in California, where states like Arizona have been giving their unhoused people one way bus tickets to San Francisco for years, where gay and trans teens from around the country have been running away to, where more conservative cities over police and push unhoused to a few progressive cities. These cities are crumbling and many liberal voters are moving rightward over frustration that their cities are being asked to shoulder the entire nation’s homeless problem. Other liberals demand more and more of these cities, insisting they become permanent sanctuaries and drain all public funds without regard to serious public safety considerations or financial realities, driving the cities into chaos, and tearing apart the local democratic parties.
That’s the future of these border towns in states like Illinois and New Mexico. Only a matter of time when these areas are financially crushed by the demands dumped on them by their cruel neighboring states and voters start to revolt.
I’m sorry for the depressing post. It’s a depressing fucking weekend.

Fire me for talking about it. I don't care. We're 2.5 FTE short in my department. We're already fucked for providers. I already can't provider any abortive services here due to it being a catholic hospital. But you can't silence me.
My old hospital system sent out an email saying that while they don't provide elective abortion they will protect pregnant patients and providers from repercussions, establish guidelines for care, etc.
Despite the fact that Michigan’s abortion ban is not in effect due to an injunction, the state’s largest hospital system (Beaumont-Spectrum) “will discontinue performing abortions unless the mother's life is in imminent danger.”
One of MO’s states reps was interviewed on our local NPR last night and the reporter asked if a woman being suicidal would equivocate to her life being in imminent danger. She paused and said it would be up to the attending physician. Nice. Guess they’ll flip a coin to see if she’s “serious” and hope they’re right.
Texas's bill that went into effect last September (and included the trigger law for 30 days after a decision overturning Roe) can definitely be read to say that the pregnant person being suicidal or threatening self harm would not be sufficient to grant an exception to the law based on threat to the mother's health/life. So if other states copy ours (which many have), then there's that answer.
I didn’t think the day would come when we would get a National abortion ban before we got a National paid leave policy but now I fear that is coming soon.

JFC. how these assholes can’t do anything that is actually for the betterment of society and families. But ….. “pro life”. It will never stop bewildering and angering me.

Personal enrichment, aka money. It’s why so many remain in politics for a bajillion years, but especially now that unfathomable amounts of money control our country’s politics now.

Sadly, I agree with these GOP operatives. ESF already mentioned it, but Trump got more votes than in 2016 after a horrific response to covid and every other shitty thing he did. The GOP has their voters and wrapped around their fingers and they vote way more consistently. People have shown us time and time again that they give no shits about anyone else.

Also, this is why I have little hope for a peaceful future - when blue state coffers are drained, eventually they’re going to realize that they are paying for services to people intentionally shipped off to blue states from red states AND are paying far more in federal tax dollars than red states generally do. All under a federal government that will implement a national ban on abortion, a national ban on any gun regulations, etc. This can’t end well.

I have some concerns about the abundance of people offering "camping" in their state.
I'm sure people have good intentions but it feels very performative and like they have a savior complex. There's no way to verify the legitimacy and safety when it comes to just random people on the internet. Donate to the existing organizations that have already been doing this work.
I teared up today watching a little girl walk into Costco with her dad. At the same time, I saw a man clearly proudly wearing a shirt with the outline of an AR-15 on it and a US flag hat. This country is such fucking garbage.
Part of me wants to go to a protest. The other part of me feels like it's useless and I'm not terribly interested in getting killed over it. Last night, DH made a comment about there being a lot of people downtown between the Avs game, Pride, and protests. My first thought was "I hope no one gets shot." This country is not a safe place for so many reasons.

There are PLENTY of health care workers that are antis. Most fake clinics have legit medical people that support/back them. There’s a whole fake obgyn "prolife" medical society. Lots of my colleagues have to fight with other healthcare personnel (like nurses and anesthesiologists) when they have to do cases in hospital ORs. So yeah, being a health care work certainly does not equal being pro abortion.
