Royal Family Is Rushing to Queen Elizabeth's Side as Doctors Are 'Concerned' for Her Health
Buckingham Palace said in a statement Thursday morning, "Following further evaluation this morning, The Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision. The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."
Nothing new on the BBC in the last hour, so we'll see what happens.
Without getting too morbid here, is this something the public would get regular updates about? Like, if she takes a turn for the worse, would that be immediate news or would it likely stay private for a while?
It did not go unnoticed that the BBC’s Huw Edwards was covering the state broadcaster’s rolling news about the queen’s health wearing a black tie and suit. Criticism was leveled at one presenter years ago who wore a burgundy tie when covering the death of the queen’s mother.
Doesn't sound good at all. But... she's 96, she's lived a full life, she's been planning for the inevitable end for some time now. She's at 'home' at Balmoral, with family. That's a pretty good and dignified way to go out.
I worried about her when I saw the pics of her greeting the new PM. Her hands looked just like my great-grandma's hands in her final days. She was also 96.

My hugest concern is that we have a whole new group in gov't, most of whom are idiots, and if the Queen were to die, they would need to be on top of everything - especially our Foreign Office, Transport Office & Home Office.

I have a number of coworkers in London, and one of them has a partner who is a police officer. Police have apparently received notice to be prepared for her passing.

So, I leave for a touristy trip to London on Wednesday (arrive Thursday AM). My sisters, mom and myself. I guess we’ll just go with the flow on what we’ll be able to do? Like the whole city won’t just shut down, right?

Like, why? Everything this family does just seems so sad and cold. Those little princes marching behind their moms casket like a spectacle FOR HOURS. Kate wearing heels and giving photoshoots 6 hours after having a baby. Charles having to basically hold meetings all day the day after his mom dies.
Every time I read about these kind of shenanigans, it makes me want to hug H&M and tell them to keep running!
Cleary I do not get the point of a royal family. Especially this one that just seems inhumane.

There may be a few things closed down (if she passes today or tomorrow), and it would get insanely packed by people flying over, but the city won't shut down (life will still go on for the normal person).

We were coincidentally there for Princess Diana's funeral. We arrived the morning of. It was pandemonium that day trying to get to our hotel, but otherwise we weren't impacted. I was 16 at the time, and it was hugely impactful seeing the outpouring from the country in person - I assume the same will happen when the Queen passes.

I’ve been watching this closely, my husband and I are flying to London on Thursday, arriving Friday AM. We assume most of our tickets will be cancelled if the news is as expected (especially Windsor castle, Buckingham Palace state rooms, Westminster Abbey) so we’ll just be there to witness history instead of our original plans. If nothing else, the parks and stuff will be open to walk around. We debated canceling because it feels kind of wrong to be tourists at this time, but we are also going to Paris and it will be hard to cancel everything.
I feel horrible for her family as I’ve been watching this news all day.
Prime Minister Trudeau and his cabinet are at a retreat in Vancouver right now. It has not gone unnoticed that they've all changed out of the Liberal Party red clothes they were wearing, and into black suits and dresses. They've put off their press conference that was supposed to take place this morning.
This is a huge deal to all the countries who have her as head of state, as well as other Commonwealth countries. I'm feeling quite emotional and I don't know why. She's just always been there, part of the fabric of my cultural identity. Also, she shared a birthday with my grandmother, who was also named Elizabeth.
It's fitting that the last thing she did was meet a new prime minister. It's amazing to think of her life. 15 prime ministers, 14 US presidents, and 5 or 6 popes I think.
