"I've enjoyed working with three Presidents" (she's actually worked with 4)
Take that, Scump.
I really thought she was in leadership during Clinton's term, because I have (what I thought was, anyway) a very vivid memory of her leading the walk out after the Clinton impeachment vote, but she wasn't Whip until 2002.
I genuinely wasn't sure which way she was going to go, but I do think the attack on her husband was enough. She has certainly been a force, and I'm glad she will still be in the House to help transition whomever takes over as Minority (aaaarrrgggh) Leader. It's going to be a fucking circus for the next two years, and I don't envy taking on that transition now.

I agree. The attack on her husband probably solidified her choice even if she was already leaning that way.
Looks like Hakeem Jeffries will become the Minority Leader. He lives about a mile away from Schumer lol.

She said the attack actually solidified her decision to stay and complete the term. She said she didn’t want to give them the satisfaction of forcing her out.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration says Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's high office should shield him from a lawsuit over his role in the killing of a U.S.-based journalist, making a turnaround from Joe Biden's passionate campaign trail denunciations of the prince over the brutal slaying.
Boebert’s lead decreased with the ballots that are still being counted! I believe it decreased by about half, from over 1k votes to 551!!!!
Frisch just called her to concede. He said that a recount would likely happen anyway, but he encouraged his supporters to spend $ instead on gas and groceries.

I just heard this. I knew it was an incredibly slim chance but, as I'm sure was obvious, I was holding out every last hope. I hope he challenges her again at the next election!
Pence was on all the Sunday shows today. He really is just on another planet and thinks he can just brush away his 4 years. He just stays so polished all the time like a robot.

More than 4 years. I will not forgive nor forget his escalation of an HIV crisis. Some of my local expat friends knew nothing about it and think he has a chance, that he's not as terrible as I say he is. I fear voting Americans might think the same.

Not that it particularly matters much on the world stage, although it may prove to be big given SEA instability generally, but MY just had a big election over the weekend. There's still no government as a result. At a minimum it's reflective of the growing global success of far right movements.
It was pretty interesting that people kept coming up to me to talk about it. Field hockey on 2 screens, election commentary on 4 (I ate dinner at a sports bar if that indicates how invested people were in results). One guy was talking about how it didn't matter if this party vs that party as they're all the same which is definitely not the case, but I think he was expressing general cynicism that his life would be unchanged. The biggest pickup of seats is a far right Islamist party with the prevailing party since decolonization being unseated. In the state where I am they got absolutely trounced.
In my 2nd link it refers to non-Malays. This does not mean expats like me who are not citizens. It means ethnically Malay with Hokkien and Indian, mostly, as "others" despite being here for generations. It's very Trumpy feeling. Voter turnout was in the 70s with a very public sign that you voted (an ink stained fingertip). And, yes, people give shit if you didn't. I witnessed a couple shouting matches the next night.
@@@ I know it's not election week anymore, but results have been finalized and we officially have a homophobic, anit-CRT, conspiracy theory loving (and I'm sure that's just the tip of the asshole iceburg) asshat joining our Board of Education. (Carroll County, MD)
EDIT @@@ Apparently the other shitty one elected is a gun nut with no backbone, and she and the asshat both have a history of bankruptcy. So that's great.
Can someone please explain explain state supreme courts to me (specifically Michigan if they vary by state).
The judges are elected- 2 judgeships were up for reelection on our ballot in November. There was a judge (Kyra Bolden) who ran and lost. Today on social media Whitmer posted she had appointed Bolden to the state Supreme Court. How is this possible? Are some elected and some appointed?

I believe this is because another judge (McCormack) is stepping down, so Whitmer gets to appoint Bolden to complete the rest of McCormack’s term. This is separate from the election that Bolden just lost.

Thank you. I somehow missed the McCormack had stepped down.

Still no coalition government here, but now there are roadblocks and fears of race riots. There is a history of them which has been historically censored although not anymore
The gist is the party with most seats is multicultural. Their rival are 100% ethnically Malay and Muslim, and openly racist. Free speech is not protected, so the government has pretty big leeway in punishing people for social media posts.
I've had people say they wish for the non racial American style elections. Lolsob.

I saw the video that he made and it sounded like a dig at Boebert. He said that if he conceded that he couldn't accept donations for a recount and that nobody else could either. The emphasis he made with his face implied that he didn't want Boebert using the recount as an excuse to get more money from people.
There was a school referendum in my town. Election night, nos were up over 150 votes and the district conceded the next day. Then the mail in votes were being counted and we started get messages about checking if your mail in vote counted. Final vote difference ended up being 22. Recount will be automatic.
I voted in the GA senate run off this morning. The line was about an hour long and was twice as long when I left. And people were chatty in line. We all agreed we had come early to beat the church crowd 😅
This is a good sign. Right?
I still can't believe we're running off between Walker and Warnock. Like... someone make it make sense.

I can't wrap my head around it either. I've seen lots of posts about long lines to vote. And we had to sue to be able to vote on Saturdays!!! WTF.
Plan on going this week. I don't know what I'll do if Walker wins, I really don't.
