I don’t have the heart to read this thread but I am so upset that Abbott, Patrick, and Paxton won. I do will never understand people voting against their own interests and well being. I am just so sick of this chokehold these assholes have on this state.
Also I cannot comprehend how Abbot swept Uvalde county at 68%
I saw a quote that I won't be able to find again that said people aren't voting against their own interests, you're just mistaken about what their interests are. I thought that was probably pretty accurate.
I know you’re right. I guess I’m speaking about teachers that know what a shitshow education In Texas is right now and still voting for them. I guess being a bigot and whatever else is more important to them.
Ok though real talk: obviously FL is a shitshow but Charlie Crist? Again? Democrats are not sending our best people. This is part of why we lose.
Except Val Demings. She’s absolutely one of our very best, and I’m gutted that she lost to shit pig Marco Rubio. I guess no matter how amazing someone is, if she’s a black woman people still won’t vote for her.
Feeling the same way about Cheri Beasley in NC. She is more than qualified to be a US Senator. She was the Chief Justice of the NC Supreme Court. Ted Budd has not impressed me in his time as a Representative.
Re: doom & gloom…on a national level, yes. I understand. This election is going so much better than most people even dared to hope. It’s hard to feel celebratory when there are still some big losses and control is still unknown, but it’s reasonable to feel optimistic about 2024 right now.
But for many of us, on a state level, it’s pretty devastating. I used to be pretty damn proud to live in Iowa. We were kind of a hidden gem. We went blue for Obama in 2012 and our state government often worked together to make compromises. Now I feel like I barely recognize this place. And I have little to no hope for it ever changing. We have very limited diversity, and I would never encourage anyone who would be considered “diverse” in any way to move here. I can’t imagine why anyone who is a Democrat would want to move here from another state unless that state is also intensely red. So, it’s awful, and I’m feeling very hopeless. Legitimately questioning my place here, and if we should move somewhere else. @@our public schools used to be excellent, and now most people in control are in favor of school vouchers which will be catastrophic for public education here.@@

We live in NC now but still vote in FL (military absentee), so we saw all the Beasley vs. Budd commercials. You could tell toward the end that the Budd camp was getting scared.

I have an acquaintance who works for the EPA, has a PhD, is a minority and voted for Trump (and likely other Rs) because of gun rights. It doesn’t make sense to those of us voting the other way, but just like abortion or education being our #1 issue, there are #1 issues for the other side too, despite all the other things not aligning with their best interests.

Just saw this on Twitter.
And yeah, I’ve had to really come to terms with the fact that being racist, owning guns, and having control of women’s bodies are more important to folks in my state than anything else. It sucks.

From a Colorado TV anchor's Twitter that I C&P from Reddit because I don't want to log into Twitter: "UPDATE: Democrat Adam Frisch is poised to upset Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert in CO-3, based on a 9NEWS analysis of remaining ballots, which are largely in counties where Frisch holds strong leads.
The Boebert-Frisch race is tied 50-50% but the bulk of ballots yet to be counted, per AP, are in Pitkin County (80% counted, currently Frisch +58, not a typo), Pueblo County (91.6% counted, currently Frisch +9.6), and Garfield County (90% counted, currently Frisch +13.6).
In Pueblo County alone, 9NEWS is told there are 6,000 uncounted ballots. Those ballots may not be counted tonight as election workers are given time to eat and rest.
9NEWS is told the GOP stronghold of Mesa County only has 300 uncounted ballots. The only county clearly in the Boebert column that has a significant percentage of uncounted ballots is tiny Otero County (76.5% counted, currently Boebert +14.4).
Military/overseas ballots will be accepted and signature issues can be cured until Nov 16. There will be an automatic recount under state law if the margin of victory is less than 0.5% of the winner's total votes. Any campaign may pay for a recount outside that margin."

Completely agree. And not the only example from last night of incredible Black candidates losing because of racism.

I voted for Val yesterday. But I have not seen one shred of campaigning for her. I never saw a sign, (except one lone one at the polling place), no postcards, ads, radio spots, etc. Literally nothing. I didn't see anything for Rubio either. But geez, did they just forget to campaign?! I live in a very red county so maybe they wrote us off, but could you at least try a little?!

Yesterday on MSNBC they were talking about how the national party wasn't helping FL dems at all (or enough).
Was Boebert’s race officially called? I see a lot of unofficial claims that she lost by 62 votes.
Nope. The lead is still tiny but it may be days or even weeks before it’s called. And because it’ll likely end up staying close, I expect there to be a recount.
I was just stumbling down a thread on mastodon, where someone estimated the excess Covid deaths in trump voters and applied to some statewide election results. And, it’s one of those things where the number line up in a 😳 manner. mastodon.social/@charlesgaba/109315765080624447

This morning, Dave Wasserman says: "After last night's NV mail ballot trend, excellent chance now that Dems will have 50 Senate seats/control in hand heading into the GA runoff."

OMG I feel both hopeful and scared to be hopeful.
I did expect it but when Wasserman says it, it gives me more hope. But still, I don't want 50-50 - we need to make an all out effort to get Warnock re-elected.
Coming in on page 11 to talk about Kansas, lol. So SO happy that Laura Kelly pulled out the win for governor. I truly thought she was done as soon as she took Covid seriously in 2020. Republicans have a super majority in the capitol here but she is a very very moderate dem (used to be R) and has managed to get a lot done despite their roadblocks. Like lowering the food tax (but they wouldn't let that go into effect before this election, bastards didn't want her to have that win). I hope she can still get things passed in the next 4 years.
Also so happy we kept our one D representative, Sharice Davids. They redistricted and gerrymandered the hell out of her district but STILL she won and she beat Amanda Adkins by an even bigger margin than last time!
Locally we got more D candidates into state seats than in the last 2 cycles which is huge, the needle is moving. And both D county commissioners held their seats and we elected a new chair of county commission that is a D. The R candidate was an election denier.
So despite Kobach's win, I'm really pleased. Also pleased that our Secretary of State held his seat because even though he is an R he is NOT an election denier and was personally very pissed at those that accused our 2020 results of being invalid.
Our county hasn't reported ANY "mail in" ballots yet. I'm about to throw things. The rest of the state is catching up, but we're so bass-askwards UGH
They start counting them today, they didn’t have enough staff to start counting them prior to Election Day.
OMG THANK YOU. I kept looking for information online about WHY they weren't being counted yet and came up with nothing. It's terrible hat they're so short on people to count, though.

If NV holds, we still need more than 50, because two of those are Manchin and Sinema. And lord knows she will likely ramp up the attention seeking behavior in the lead up to her re-election. Also, Walker is TERRIBLE, and we cannot just throw up our hands and let someone like Warnock lose to that piece of hot buttered garbage, even if we were already at 99 seats.

They do often hire temporary workers to do this work (At least in CO), if you or anyone you know wants to sign up to work in elections in 2024. That’s how I’ve been working as an election judge in 2020 and 2022.

What state are you in?
Carroll COunty, MD
And I've already decided next election I'm getting involved.
