OMG THANK YOU. I kept looking for information online about WHY they weren't being counted yet and came up with nothing. It's terrible hat they're so short on people to count, though.
They do often hire temporary workers to do this work (At least in CO), if you or anyone you know wants to sign up to work in elections in 2024. That’s how I’ve been working as an election judge in 2020 and 2022.
I have a friend who works in the elections office a few counties over. Not close enough to help him out, sadly. Hes always asking for help.
I've decided that next election I'll be getting involved locally. I just need to remember in time to actually do it.
I did expect it but when Wasserman says it, it gives me more hope. But still, I don't want 50-50 - we need to make an all out effort to get Warnock re-elected.
If NV holds, we still need more than 50, because two of those are Manchin and Sinema. And lord knows she will likely ramp up the attention seeking behavior in the lead up to her re-election. Also, Walker is TERRIBLE, and we cannot just throw up our hands and let someone like Warnock lose to that piece of hot buttered garbage, even if we were already at 99 seats.
Yup every seat matters. I saw on Twitter that Kemp and Walker people are talking to see how Kemp can help. Since kemp is popular, Dems need to bring out everyone to help Warnock.

Are you a member of Carroll CAN? They have GREAT resources. There’s a public page and a secret group.
I really need someone to talk me down over the NV senate race. I did a very rough calculation using numbers from MSNBC and I don't see how Cortez Masto can overcome her deficiency. The gap is shrinking, for sure, but there's only 165,000 some ballots left to count.
Mark Kelly will for sure win in AZ (I don't know why it hasn't been called yet), but that only takes Dems to 49 leading up to the GA runoff. Uggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

The CNN page has her only ~ 16,000 down and as I understand it, the ballots coming in now are breaking for her at a much higher percentage than 10%.
Does anyone have any insight into the CA house races (13, 22, 27) that have low reporting numbers so far?
Not specifically those seats but I just want to share that CA allows ballots to be postmarked by Election Day and arrive w/in 7 days to count. In 2020 house races were teetertottering for a weeks before final counts. I think it’s going to be a messy ride for a while.
As a slight break from staring at mail in ballot numbers, how are people's various school board candidates races going?
For ours we had four people running for two seats. Two normal people I aligned with well, one person I didn't like but didn't seem to be an overtly hateful human being at least, and one absolute nutbar.
The nutbar is last, so A+ to my fellow county residents on that one. But #1 is the person I didn't like, but found troublesome rather than hateful. So boooooo to that, but yay no crazy cakes at least!
(the guy I don't like is just seems too focused on test scores/STEM/etc, and is pro SRO. But says a lot of the "right things" otherwise so...k? He also seems to walk the line on the "parent choice" crazy people by giving non-answer answers on those topics to the point where I'm honestly not sure if he's placating them or us.)

Ours is crap. Three seats up, top 3 right now are anti-lgbtq+, anti-CRT etc nutjobs. Predicted with mail ins it will be the too two and the one sane member up for reelection. The sane one was the only memeber of our current board who voted against banning pride flags in classrooms. The other two who are trailing are with sane one are very pro-lgbtq+ and not, you know, shit human beings. If you go back through this thread and the politics one these people are what I've been fretting about.
Although the chances are exceedingly slim, a tiny little part of me still hopes we can miraculously hold on to the house. But if we lose, I want to see McCarthy and his republican rivals duke it out for the speakership.

Our is an absolute hot mess. We have three of five seats up for election this year and all of the incumbents are losing right now. Our specific trustee is a Fox News talking point parroting moron who hasn't set foot in a classroom or in a school setting, outside of her run, in over a decade, and even then that was when her own children were in high school. She doesn't believe in vaccines or science, doesn't want any sex-ED in any grade level, blames everything on "the woke left" etc. I'm devastated and honestly debating running for her seat if she does indeed come up as the winner in the next cycle.
CNN reports Boebert is up by 433 votes with 96% reporting
She's up to 794 according to the most recent NYT tally.
Like, if she was going to win, was this really the way the universe needed to play it? REALLY? To give us hope and glee for days only to be like, "LOL NOPE JUST KIDDING."
There are apparently ~5,000 votes outstanding from Pueblo County, which tends to favor Dems, and it sounds like they are the mail-ins/early votes, which also tend to break Dem, but who the hell knows what's going to happen.
I feel like we are la terrible episode of some sort of political drama. This kind of suspense -- will Boebert win? What about the Nevada and Georgia Senate? WHO WILL TAKE CONTROL OF CONGRESS?! -- feels like something you'd roll your eyes at as unrealistic and overdone if you saw it in fiction.

Our school board is divided into 5 trustee areas. The seat for my area wasn't up for election this year, but two other seats were. One of those seats went to a perfectly fine candidate with a ton of experience in education. The other one went to a police officer in a PR assignment who was pushing "parental choice" as a big part of his platform. So they pretty much cancel each other out.
The first guy had 2 complete whackadoodles running against him, including the son of one of the current board members, so it could've been worse.
wawa, what I am hearing about him is that he kept the quiet parts quiet, and knew what *not* to say to get elected here. *sigh*. But he seems less bad than the other.
Kari lake is such an asshole. Wasn’t there so much video of armed people during the election you know watching for all the cheaters? Has she checked in with them?

I am in district 3, only 44% counted so far. Last election, we started off light blue and got redder as the count went on. POS Kiley is currently ahead by around 11k so I don’t have much hope.

We had a run off for one school board position and a sane, normal person won. We are still split 50/50 between people who think drag queens are coming to read to our kids and ban all the books, and just regular teachers and parents who want what is best.

We should get the results of 10,598 mail in ballots sometime after midnight. They’re still counting.

I only did quick research on ours. They seemed mostly harmless. I looked them all up on FB before voting and only one had anything questionable posted. He did not get elected. The ones that win seem ok, hopefully at least!
Our friend was running for reelection in a nearby district. They had a group of 3 crazy people running and none of them won thankfully. Our friend got the most votes. Another nearby district did have at least one guy win who has been writing dumb articles in a local paper lately. And my cousin and her H both lost - she was running as a group of 3 and her H was trying to get people to write him in for state senate. I noticed my cousin just posted something questioning how the person in charge of the elections was the one getting the most votes for SOS and how suspicious this is..... 😐
It's not my district but I'm sad about the Maryland 1st. They had an great candidate run what seemed like a really amazing campaign against long time asshole Andy Harris and she had the best showing a D has had in that district since Harris came in in 2010, but still wasn't actually that close.
*Sigh*
eta: I realized I didnt' share her name, hoping we see more of her: Heather Mizeur.

Yes, Heather ran a phenomenal campaign!
I’m also watching District 6 closely. Trone is losing by about 1700 votes. Not sure if their mail in counting is done.

somebody tried to tell me I should think Parrott is fine because we share a professional background. To which I say, LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. i don't even agree with him on things specifically relating to our profession!

@@@ Welp, glad we're out of Collier County (FL). They voted in a few nutjobs that are pushing to bring back corporal punishment, among other things. Also are encouraging typical GOP snitch-on-your neighbor behavior- for example, ALL read-alouds must be approved at the beginning of the year, and if a teacher deviates (you know, like someone is being bullied on the playground, so let's read about how that's not okay, or a kid brings in their favorite book from home), parents are encouraged to report it to admin for disciplinary action. Ridiculous.

For mobile: Lauren Boebert up by over 1000 after the blue-leaning Pueblo votes were finished being counted, so Dave Wasserman says it is tough to see her losing now.
They have 99% counted, and it sounds like its mostly just votes from military overseas (which tend to run red) and a handful of votes in each county. Voters can still cure their ballots, though, so....
But seriously, not happy at all with the universe for that (likely) false hope.
