Like I said before, every single realize I'm talking to myself in this thread at this point but there really aren't many people to talk to about this IRL who care and if there is even one lurker reading who sees another perspective than what the news shows and gets more knowledge from what I write and it humanizes us, I'll keep talking to myself.

I’m also reading. ❤️ We are going through a lot of shit right now with our loved ones so I’ve been less engaged overall on these boards. But I’m still here and still reading; just without the right words to express what I’m feeling on the stuff that makes me feel additional despair.
fryjack2, I think you know I'm reading all of this. I feel so much despair because I have no idea what to do past what I've done (sending money, calling govt officials, speaking out, supporting locally). And despite what I feel, it's nothing compared to everyone who is living through it.
Another person who is reading. Please keep sharing. It helps me advocate amongst the constant Pro-Zion things I’m seeing.
With the exception of some Zionist high school classmates, I'm in the exact opposite situation.
A man here was arrested for a post on social media asking his government to establish diplomatic relations with Israel. Technically he didn't break laws, but they can legally detain anyone for 72 hours who "has potential to disrupt social order." But it's very one sided; you have to even privately be 100% pro Palestine because anyone can report.
So I've been less outspoken about any side that is extreme and intolerant, even here, and I hate that about me. I'm lucky (well, not luck as I wouldn't stay if it weren't that way) I live in a very tolerant and liberal region of an intolerant barely not theocracy country, and my friends are much like we talk here, understanding nuance.
Out of all this awful there is one positive I've noticed. At least among my friends, as devoutly Muslim as some are, they've taken this as an opportunity to have me explain as much as I can about what I do know about Judaism as a religious outsider but raised pretty culturally immersed, in a country where even speaking any Yiddish words is technically illegal (good luck telling that to someone from south Florida as I don't even notice when I say certain words until someone asks wth I just said), and they learn nothing without extreme bias. They are eager to express solidarity as children of Abraham, their phrase, to really explore their own beliefs. To find where they're similar rather than different. They've also been a resource for me filling in my general knowledge with nuance and scriptural references.
In a sea of very strongly entrenched positions on any side, it gives me hope.
I was just told that calling the Nakba the Nakba is offensive to Jewish people. I told the guy telling me that that the actual Nakba act was offensive to my relatives who were killed or removed from their homes and its the literal word for what happened. He also said no one was forcibly removed in 1948, all Palestinians left willingly.

what the fuck?? who said this?
A Jewish man who seems to think our town’s Facebook page is his own personal page.
I ended up deleted my responses because I don’t want to be a target My H is already worried for me/our family.
There is one person (an Irish man) who continues to refute with verified sources the guy and others when they post lies or blatant anti Palestinian posts. Another couple of women also do. They all get slandered by the Pro-Israel and Jewish posters. No Arab or Muslim responds but they send DMs to me because I have kept one response up that just asked that our schools remember that we have Arab/Muslim/Palestinian families in our schools when sending out communications.

I'm so sorry. it's horrible that you have to censor yourself this way when you have family under attack. it must be so frustrating to see all of the "both sides"-ing of this from so many people.

I'm still watching & reading. I was relieved for the temporary ceasefire & disappointed that it didn't hold. I'm frustrated that the US blocked the UN resolution & I'm very sympathetic to the Palestinians.
How will this end? Not just how, but when? My friend and I had dinner the other night and those were questions we both couldn't answer in any way that seemed realistic.
There will never be the complete elimination of groups that want to fight Israel for return of land and self determination. Israel will never return/give up all the land that was outlined as Israel in 1948. I have almost no faith that it will stop occupying Palestine or stop building settlements where it is not allowed to or that there will never be any violent protests or acts from Palestinians towards Israel.
I only hope that this younger generation in Palestine and Israel is tired of the fighting and death and apartheid systems and demands an end to it all, even if it means making hard concessions.
3 hostages mistakenly killed by troops had been holding a white flag, Israeli military official says
The account of how the hostages died also raised questions about the conduct of Israeli ground troops. Palestinians on several occasions reported that Israeli soldiers opened fire as civilians tried to flee to safety.
The anger that Israelis must feel at the murder of the hostages by Israel troops must be immense. Unarmed, holding a white flag.
I'm not glad that they were murdered. I am glad that this tragedy is added proof that may be taken seriously that the Israeli army is not the most moral army in the world as claimed and that yes, they do shoot Palestinians at random, and yes, they do treat Palestinians and Jews horrendously. There are so many videos that show this and claims from ex members.
I don't know if anyone else has seen the press conference where John Kirby, WH spokesperson, was asked why they condemn Palestinians and their supporters of using the phrase, "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free" and have no problem speaking for Palestinians and what their intent is. Yet have not condemned Netanyahu's son who posted, "From the River to the Sea, the Israeli flag is all you will see" and many more racist posts that call for genocide and say that they can't speak on his posts. In fact, Kirby said he can't speak to the social media posts. Why the double standard? Netanyahu's son moved to Miami this year and does not live in Israel.
I still do not understand how the phrase has become so twisted. If the sentence was fully said with the intent I have always been taught it means- "From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free from Israeli occupation." Would that be antisemitic? Why? The reality is that Palestine is not free. Because of Israel. Wanting it to be, does not automatically mean wanting an end to Israel despite the narrative being pushed. I can't imagine telling my grandmother, if she were still alive, that she can't say that anymore. She would laugh in my face and tell me to get out of her house.
Hungry, thirsty and humiliated: Israel's mass arrest campaign sows fear in northern Gaza
I literally gasped at numbers on their hands.
At what point is this no longer self defense? Rhetorical question. Seems as though 99% of the world leaders seem to think what is going on is not ok.
From the article:
"In response to questions about alleged mistreatment, the Israeli military said that detainees were “treated according to protocol” and were given enough food and water. The army spokesman, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, said this week that arrests took place in two Hamas strongholds in northern Gaza and that detainees were told to strip to make sure they didn’t conceal explosives.
Hagari said the men are questioned and then told to dress, and that in cases where this didn’t happen, the military would ensure it doesn’t occur again. Those believed to have ties to Hamas are taken away for further interrogation, and dozens of Hamas members have been arrested so far, he said.
The others are released and told to head south, where Israel has told people to seek refuge, Hagari said."
The cases where it didn't happen? You mean the pictures showing truckloads of naked men or the pictures of large groups of men kneeling in their underwear or large groups being led blindfolded, in their underwear to who knows where? Clearly none of those men had explosives so why were they still naked? What will be done to "ensure it doesn't occur again?" What exactly?
SO MUCH FUCKERY TOWARDS PALESTINIANS THAT NO ONE WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR.
There have been some interesting developments in the last few days.
Biden/US putting pressure on Israel to wrap things up or stop the humanitarian crises the IDF accidentally assassinating 3 escaped Israeli hostages who were shirtless and waving white flags has caused a global uproar & intensified the backlash IDF found a large Hamas tunnel & has started flooding other tunnels Reporting that Israel is offering a 7 day pause in fighting for the release of more hostages
Laughing at the US/Biden asking Israel to, “wrap things up.” The only reason they are saying that is because of the polls and reelection risk. They gave the green light for Israel to go ahead and use any weapon they want without congress approval and they can’t utter the word ceasefire. And they planted so much Palestinian hatred and bias from day one. So f*ck Biden and Harris.
The hostages mistakenly killed by IDF were also yelling for help in Hebrew. Not sure what else they could have done to make it clear they were not Hamas, or even Palestinian. The IDF indiscriminately shoots to kill. This is not surprising.
They just found a Hamas tunnel? Google earth could have done that months go. It’s almost as if they have Hollywood PR agents who plant stories to distract from the atrocities they are committing.
What’s a 7 day ceasefire going to do? There is no food or water or hospitals with meds to treat the injured or infrastructure. And almost nothing is being let in. It’s a pause in fearing a bomb falling on your children on top of the other immediate worries, but not even really because the ceasefire can be broken at any second so it’s a false sense of slight safety.
It’s a depressing, never ending joke at this point. This administration thinks people are just as dumb as those who believed Trump’s lies. Empty threats by world leaders. Real consequences instated such as banning goods imported from Israel by countries that actually have more to lose by standing up for what is morally right.
And another racist anti Palestinian graffiti was spray painted on another prominent wall in the center of my town.
When someone posted asking how to get it removed, someone responded that town members should be considerate of the feelings of its Jewish members.
What now? Considerate of Jewish feelings when wanting Palestinian hate removed from being on full display?
Antisemitism Exists. Anti Arab and anti Palestinian sentiment exists. Neither is ok and neither should be welcomed or accepted. Im glad for my town’s fb page because it’s allowing me to see who the racist members are.

I thought Israel said they dug those tunnels? Or was that a different tunnel?

fryjack2 - I didn't intend to be flippant & apologize if it came across that way. I just wanted to post a few updates I had seen. I know it's not enough, but I'm glad to see the US finally putting a bit of pressure on Israel and global sentiment seems like people understand that this has gone too far and Israel is losing support.
I'm so sorry fryjack2. The lack of concern and unwillingness to see anti Palestinian/anti Arab/Islamophobic words and actions has been both unsurprising and also terribly heartbreaking and infuriating. I'm sorry that it's hitting particularly close to home right now.
