I think my biggest question is WHY was he still on stage when there was a suspicious person in the crowd and SS had been notified of someone with a gun? Why wasn’t he kept from going on stage, or taken off stage until the situation was cleared? It seems that would be common sense protocol. Did SS drop the ball, or did Trump say he wasn’t concerned and went out against their recommendation?

It just doesn’t make sense.

We all know he’s only wearing the white ear mask for effect. That’s not a medical dressing for cartilage damage. Trump absolutely wants it to be a tough guy injury and is clearly milking the weird oversized bandage thing for clout.

I won’t post the picture here due to the blood, but this article has the only picture I’ve seen where you can see his ear after the shooting. I haven’t compared it to what his ear looked like previously, but… there really is not any major damage. He definitely is playing it up for sympathy with the fake bandage.

Thank you for saying this. It looks so ridiculous just perched on top. Not like any surgical bandage I’ve ever had. But then I feel angsty for judging someone’s medical bandages.

It did not. Trump went to a small community hospital via motorcade. The hospital knew he was coming, called a code black (lock down) and no one was allowed in or out (including staff). Part of the process is to notify 911 dispatch so all ambulances in the area were diverted to the next closest hospital (tbf, there aren't many options up there). The only ER patients that arrived came via personal vehicle and were triaged/treated in the parking lot- from the sounds of it nothing was dire enough that would have warranted admission. The largest disruption was he was in the hospital during shift change so that held up report and dayshift leaving.

The two men who are still hospitalized were airlifted to a Trauma 1 hospital in downtown Pittsburgh capable of handling their injuries (i.e.- even if Butler Hospital was not on lockdown they still would have bypassed it to go into the city).

Total aside but I do know of someone who had a prosthetic ear (but like, the entire external ear and not just a portion). One time a hairdresser didn’t know about it, caught it with a brush while blow drying and it flew across the salon and scared the stylist out of her mind.

Christopher Wray testified yesterday it was unclear if trump was hit by debris or a bullet.

Do you think any of the official investigations will ever provide an answer? It doesn't really matter what he was hit by, but also history deserves a factual, correct accounting of what happened. I'd be shocked if the shooter's aim was that good- seems much more likely he his a teleprompter, but the FBI/CIA should be able to do a pretty easy trajectory analysis given the bullet's origin and target and they even have it captured in a photo in the background.

Saying it’s “unclear” seems to me to be saying, “it likely wasn’t the bullet, but we don’t have the actual piece of glass that cut him to prove it.” I agree it should be pretty simple for the professionals to figure out, but we may not get the full story for years.

His “I took a bullet for democracy” BS is ridiculous. “Taking a bullet for…” means that you stood in the way to protect something. No. He was the target of a young man who wanted to complete an assassination just because. He wasn’t trying to make a point, he just wanted to make history.

Because he was incredibly lucky. A centimeter in the other direction and his injury would have been worse, 5 cm and he would have been dead. I can't read this particular article, but the line is "either the bullet or a fragment of the bullet". So it's possible he was hit by a shard as it blew.

they don’t use stitches on minor facial wounds like that these days. From the photos it looks like they used the kind of small, glue patch my kids received. It’s visible in the recent photos but discrete.

This weekend when I was picking my kid up from sleepaway camp a kid had a Trump ear gauze bandage on his ear. At first I was very WTF, but as I got closer I realized there was some blood on the gauze and he was legit injured. Poor kid, haha. Terrible timing for this injury.
