I’ll admit, I know next to nothing about Roy Cooper, but am I the only one not excited by him in the least? I’m sure he’s a nice enough man, but he just reads old white guy to me. I think we need to keep the momentum and excitement up and go with someone a little younger.
Is it enthusiasm or "oh shit, we're in trouble" that is shaking people up? Because I didn't donate because of Harris now running, I donated because the party is in trouble.
For me, it was "oh shit" (see my first post in this thread) but now I'm enthusiastically in the "hell yeah!" camp. And I am not an optimistic person by nature, lol.
My SIL just told me she donated. She is a Canadian citizen and can’t vote here yet but she is EXCITED and wants to do her part.
We need a veteran to go up against JP Vance. The more I think about it, the more I want Kelly for the job. To counter so many of the platform points that Trump/Vance will try to make, Kelly could really do a great job.
Harris would destroy trump in a debate. Kelly would destroy Vance in their records and accomplishments. And gives a strong presence to back the Prez in times of potential war, particularly with the issues in Israel and the Ukraine right now.
One of my favorite Mark Kelly details is that he and his identical twin Scott did a huge twin study for NASA. Like, literally advanced humanity’s understanding of what long term space travel does to the body. (He was the one mostly on the ground.) How badass is that!?! med.stanford.edu/gbsc/pages/nasa-twins.html
As concerned as I am about the must win status of PA, MI, WI (so, Shapiro would be the safer pick) man I’m starting to come around to Kelly. Trump would look like such a loser next to his badassery - what could the MAGA crowd have against him?!? A freaking astronaut military hero, border state/understands immigration, foreign policy chops whose wife survived an assassination attempt. It throws all of what they love back in their faces.
I’m not sure if anyone else saw her, Doug and Biden (via phone) talk at the Delaware Dem HQ earlier today…at first I had tears in my eyes because I was so proud and then Kamala got me fired up!

It’s kind of illegal for foreigners to donate to federal candidates.
I love the idea of a Harris/Kelly campaign. I’m super excited about that.
I mean I have always loved Buttigieg but I think Kelly is the better choice. 🤞
….and I just saw on social media: 1. The only path to electoral college victory is winning Pennsylvania 2. Josh Shapiro is the most popular politician in Pennsylvania
I keep coming back here because there is literally no one IRL with whom I can share my excitement. No politics at work. I sent out a message in a friend group chat that I thought would be excited and got mostly crickets.
So for the first time as an adult, I tuned into AM radio today on my commute because I want to hear more opinions on what people are thinking about yet another unprecedented thing.
The callers were all over the place but it was entertaining for sure!

Every time I see a photo of her, I get a little blip of excitement.
My Sunday WaPo print edition shows up on Mondays now, and it's a little bizarre reading their insider-baseball today on how it was all up in the air within the Biden family and it could go either way as to whether Joe stayed in, but the calls to step down were more likely to make him double-down.
While the timing is definitely kind of chaotic, the more I think about it, the more I think it is a huge advantage to the D's advantage that the GOP and Trump didn't get to use their convention as a platform for attacks on Harris. They would have really had the chance to control the initial narrative about her candidacy to voters less familiar with her, and Biden deprived them of that chance.

Plus, as Dr. Richardson pointed out, they can’t change their VP candidate - who is deeply problematic and is not winning over the woman vote. This was GENIUS strategizing and timing. And he announced on his own terms in a letter via Twitter instead of any major media source. It’s absolutely brilliant.
What is this, like 36 hours after President Biden’s announcement? So maybe we can hear about the VP pick pretty soon! So excited.
I want to get yard signs but four years ago they were trashed. I’m looking into getting a banner to hang from the trees in front. There is a banner printing place really really close to our house. But they advertise with a flag with the blue line, and it makes me think they wouldn’t be excited about printing a Harris 2024 banner. lol, if both my feet weren’t broken, I’d go in there anyway.
I mostly hang out on ML but catching up on here. I'm visiting my in-laws/SIL in Florida and they are big Biden fans. My SIL is a server and a vendor at the farmers market and she hears about Trump all day and she will lecture her customers. They watch CNN on multiple times a day etc. they were really sad when Biden stepped down, and a little hesitant about Harris but today they were excited. We all watched her speech and clapped and cheered during parts. FIL made us rewind it because he couldn't hear some parts of it. It made me happy I was here when all this happened to share in the excitement ❤️
In less than 48 hrs, Kamala has raised 231 million, secured enough delegates to be the presumptive nominee and a ton of endorsements including with unions. I never in my dreams thought that the democratic party had this kind of efficiency in them.

Cooper is pretty popular in NC. He was elected as a Dem despite Trump winning the state, twice
'On the short list': 5 reasons Roy Cooper could be a vice presidential pick with Biden out
“Cooper remains more popular than Biden in North Carolina, said McLennan, who is also director of the Meredith Poll. Cooper’s favorability rating was 52% percent in April while Biden’s was 38%, McLennan said.
Not only could Cooper boost enthusiasm among Democrats in North Carolina, he may also help the ticket appeal to more conservative voters. In North Carolina, Cooper’s approval rating among Republicans is much stronger than Biden’s, McLennan said.
Cooper’s 6-year average approval among Republicans is 36%, while Biden’s 3-year approval among Republicans is 8%, according to McLennan.”

So I’m torn once again!
Eh…we were told our only hope for winning the Presidency was Biden, too. That’s looking, at least right now, not to be true. I think there might be some surprise states that go for Harris. I’ve got a little hope even for Iowa. We voted for Obama…we can vote for Kamala!
It all depends on people actually voting. The young people are getting fired up. This is GAME ON! We have LOTS of paths to victory if we get out the vote!
Personally, while I’d love to see Buttigieg, I think Kelly would be the strongest balance to the team. He will appeal to voters that may not necessarily be the biggest fans of her. (Just like Kamala did for Biden.)

I’ve said this all along…I believe WE ARE READY for Kamala Harris to be President. We don’t need time, we need energy. And we’ve got it! A LOT of it! The short time frame, IMO, in this day and age with the super fast news cycle and short attention spans, will actually help her more than hurt, I think. (And I’d love to see this be the beginning of campaign reform to stop this nonsense of starting to campaign essentially the minute the first election is over.)
Democrats are sometimes our own worst enemy with not believing in our ability to get things done. I don’t believe any of this was really chaos. I think there have been plenty of people making plans behind the scene for months…long before the debate. We won’t find out until books are written down the road, but I believe there was always a backup plan if Biden wasn’t running for any reason. They would have been fools not to have had those conversations behind the scenes.
