Basically they're going to hold a virtual vote in early August to see if they can lock in the nomination before the convention on August 22. If they can't secure the nomination for one candidate then it's going to be chaos with an open convention. Lots of rumblings that they don't want to do that.

Most delegates are already elected officials-in NY the names are public so it's easy to find them.  So you can just call their office as a constituent and voice your support.

Quite possibly a little of both. I like to think most donors are like us ok this board and realize we have to get behind somebody, and that takes money we are willing to give to not let Trump win.

Probably a little of both. The party was in trouble with Biden running though and yet people weren’t donating- 60% of these donations came from people donating for the first time this election cycle. I know we can’t get so excited we start assuming she is a shoe in but I’m optimistic.

I’m no constitutional scholar but I keep seeing that the 12th amendment prohibits the president and VP being from the same state? I also saw an article that said having Newsom on the ticket would require them to forfeit all electoral votes from California (no idea if that is true).

The Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves; they shall name in their ballots the person voted for as President, and in distinct ballots the person voted for as Vice-President, and they shall make distinct lists of all persons voted for as President, and all persons voted for as Vice-President and of the number of votes for each, which lists they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the seat of the government of the United States, directed to the President of the Senate;

Looks like electors from California couldn’t vote for someone because at least one of the candidates are not from their state. Drat.

Asked a friend who is a bit connected (works state level d campaigns) from the last presidental election cycle about Kelly as a possible vp pick. He is guessing that vp pick will come within a week so this limits who they can vet and guessing top 2 who have already been kind of prevetted are Buttigeg and Shapiro but hopes Kelly is up there too.

We need a veteran to go up against JP Vance. The more I think about it, the more I want Kelly for the job. To counter so many of the platform points that Trump/Vance will try to make, Kelly could really do a great job.

Harris would destroy trump in a debate.
Kelly would destroy Vance in their records and accomplishments. And gives a strong presence to back the Prez in times of potential war, particularly with the issues in Israel and the Ukraine right now.

Good question.  I think I wanted to show enthusiasm to get behind Harris because the party is in trouble, and I thought this would help to give a sign that it would be a good idea to get behind a candidate.  I had planned on donating, but the excitement wasn’t there and I hadn’t gotten around to it.

I think it's enthusiasm! This board is the only place that I "know" that seemed excited for Biden. Everyone in my real life was voting for not trump, but not in any way enthusiastic or really happy about Biden with how things have been recently.

Also, I  feel like I heard they try to pick a Vice President from a different state to get the electoral votes from both.  So CA would vote for Harris, but say PA would be more likely to draw votes for Shapiro.

For me, it was "oh shit" (see my first post in this thread) but now I'm enthusiastically in the "hell yeah!" camp. And I am not an optimistic person by nature, lol.
