We need to keep fighting. I know we all know that. But holy shit half the voters in the country are leading us to peril.
I’m ignoring all polls and any news that dings or props up either of them because as we saw in 2016, the broader American public cannot be counted on to do what we expect in reaction to p*ssy grabbing or emails.
We ALL need to be volunteering, donating, and voting. We need to maintain the enthusiasm and be all gas, no breaks (ETA or brakes lol) until Election Day.
A reminder too - in 2020, we didn’t have results until Saturday following the election. And then, of course, we saw January 6th happen.
This is a long haul, and we need to be prepared, but not discouraged, by anything that happens over the next six months.

Okay. I'll try.
This is an accurate picture of my face until December: 😬

Don’t get me wrong - my anxiety is high. But so is my excitement. I’m trying to keep a healthy balance between saying “fuck yeah!” and absolutely spiraling over what could be.
I keep trying to remember that it is in our best interest for the polls to continue to be VERY close. That will improve voter turnout, which will only help Kamala. That was part of the problem in 2016...a lot of people didn't vote because they thought it was all but guaranteed that Clinton would win.
In fact, just last night, my H and I were discussing if some people will answer polls incorrectly just to throw them off and make the race look closer. There are no Poll Police to make sure that you vote the way that you told that random caller/text that you were going to vote.

Full speed ahead! Eyes on the prize.
I was just reading an article about this. Basically Vance and Trump are going around claiming the polls showing them behind are wrong/lies by liberal media. That makes zero sense from a campaign standpoint because instead of their supports thinking they HAVE to vote because things are so close, they will do what they also do and believe their lies, think the election is in the bag and stay home. So KOKO with that narrative guys.
I don’t love political gear in the workplace but I have seen a smattering of “Old White Dudes for Harris” shirts among our blue collar employees. It shouldn’t be a surprise because their union has formally endorsed Harris but I see a lot of Trump gear being worn by white employees (only about 15% of the workforce). So it makes me happy to see.
I have finally figured out why I keep defaulting to the wrong pronunciation for Kamala Harris even though I was pretty sure I've never met another Kamala. (like, why does my brain prefer one version over another even? wtf?)
It's Ms. Marvel's fault. (just watched "The Marvel's" last night. But we watched the Ms. Marvel series when it first came out.) Ms Marvel, Kamala Kahn, is a ka-MAL-ah. Her parents say it like 34598476593827593845 times in each scene they're in. I'm so glad ,la is a thing so I have an easy mnemonic to retrain.

My dad has never so much as worn a campaign button in his life. Early boomer military guy so mostly votes R, but it was never his personality. He voted Trump in 2016, Biden in 2020 and just donated and bought Harris/Walz merch. He's never so much as fished, but he wants that camo hat and he wants a landslide.
He has a flagpole but hasn't flown the flag in years. He's bummed it's raining and will have to wait.
79 year old Vietman Vet in a red county is all in and I hope he's not alone.

I have been ping ponging between feeling so excited and hopeful to absolute fear and dread, because the last time I had these feelings the worst possible outcome became reality. RFK dropping out makes me nervous that it will bump Trump’s numbers, but then I try to remind myself that we’re not as split as we were last time. In 2016 the democratic convention still had Bernie Bros crying and vowing to write him in, and I know a lot of people who “voted their conscience” by abstaining because they thought Hillary was definitely going to win, so they could be virtuous. I don’t think the Democratic Party is in that space anymore.

Also I think there were a fair number of Democrats/Independents who just didn't like Hillary so they didn't vote. I know we've got potential racism coming into play now, but on the whole I think Kamala is a less divisive figure. But maybe I'm being naive.

I’m just going to drop Michelle Obama’s words here because the next 75 days are going to be intense:
It’s up to us to remember what Kamala’s mother told her: Don’t just sit around and complain — do something!
So if they lie about her, and they will, we’ve got to do something!
If we see a bad poll, and we will, we’ve got to put down that phone and do something!
If we start feeling tired… if we start feeling that dread creeping back in… we’ve got to pick ourselves up, throw water on our faces, and do something!

I think also the voting population has changed a lot since 2016. Many more Gen Z voters who have diverse friendship groups and seeing a woman of color in a powerful position is not unusual to them.

In Pakistan I believe that pronunciation is more common.
Kerry Washington had this adorable bit at the DNC with Kamala's grand-nieces:

I can empathize with the sense of dread and anguish. Remember that there are quite a few reasons why we have reasons to be hopeful and why this will be different than 2016:
- Kamala Harris has been VP for 3.5 years, and she worked closely together with Joe Biden to bring the country back from the pandemic with the fastest economic recovery in the world.
- Trump has been President for 4 years and has been whining for almost 8 years now. Many people who voted for him the first time, won't now. Especially when so many Rs who used to work with him refuse to endorse him
- Like sakoro said, there are many more Gen Z voters now. Also, they are organizing in record numbers and using social media in new ways. That is also why the DNC invited so many content creators instead of only MSM.
- Abortion and gun safety are big motivators for Gen Z as they see their freedom and lives threatened
And finally, MAGAs want to see people scared and angry. They are fanning the flames. But they are losing and the group of staunch supporters is shrinking.
Still, don't rely on polls and go out and vote and talk to people.

My sister-in-law’s father shared with us that the last time he voted for a democrat was Hubert Humphrey but he is going to (begrudgingly) vote for Kamala because Trump has destroyed the Republican Party. I’ll still take it!

Kamala Harris' name comes from Sanskrit (her mother is Hindu) and it means lotus, a symbol of enlightenment and prosperity. Her middle name is Devi which means Goddess in Sanskrit.
Kamala Khan's name comes from Arabic, (she is muslim) and it means perfect or marvel-ous, lol. The male variant Kamaal is more common, so you might know people with that name.

This makes sense and I’ll claim it as my reason too, lol. I have to very consciously stop and think “comma-la”. If I don’t consciously think about it, I say it wrong. While I in general make an effort to pronounce people’s names properly because it’s the respectful thing to do, I also don’t want anyone to mistake me for a republican.

Thank you for that info! How perfect are those name meanings?

Somewhere on social media I saw T-shirts that said LOTUS FOR POTUS.
