Vice President Kamala Harris has used her first days as the Democrats' likely nominee for president to make it clear that she'll pursue big — and expensive — parts of Joe Biden's domestic agenda that never made it across the finish line, Axios' Hans Nichols writes.
Why it matters: Harris is signaling that even as Democrats play defense on Biden's mixed economic record, she's eager to go on offense for the next four years.
Her plans include pushing for nearly $2 trillion to establish universal pre-K education and improve elderly care and child care — as well as a permanent tax cut for working-class families.
Her instincts are to go further than Biden's attempt to raise corporate taxes to 28%, according to people familiar with the matter who recall that Harris backed raising them to 35% in 2020.
💥 Driving the news: Harris previewed her economic priorities when she dropped by her campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Del., on Monday, and then again at her rally in the Milwaukee area yesterday.
"We believe in a future where no child has to grow up in poverty," she said in Wilmington. "And where every person has access to paid family leave and affordable child care."
In a four-page "Path to Victory" memo out this morning, the Harris campaign argues that she's positioned to expand Biden's winning coalition from 2020.
"Her net favorability is 19 points higher than Trump's among white, college-educated voters, and 18 points higher than Trump's among voters over 65," the Harris campaign writes. It also claims that the roughly 7% of voters who remain undecided are "disproportionately Black, Latino and under 30."
I love the weird, chaotic internet meme energy for Kamala right now.
“What I’ve noticed over these past few days is that it’s becoming more of a rallying cry, kind of beyond just a meme,” Maddox says. Democrats “actually have hope for the first time in a long time and almost, like, don’t know what to do with it,” Maddox says. All the silliness “is becoming an outlet for that hope.”

I was wondering more about what her politics will be. I didn’t vote for her in the primary and I honestly don’t remember who I voted for (it wasn’t her or Biden or Bernie) as I don’t remember her specific views. Has she said anything about Israel and Gaza?

IIRC she's a moderate but stronger on abortion issues than Biden?
I voted for Warren in 2020 so Harris was too moderate for me, and she's honestly too moderate for me now, but I'll take what I can get at this point.

Agreed and This is what I remember. I think I voted for Castro or Warren. Will look forward to seeing what she campaigns on and her standpoint on Israel and Gaza.

Yes, xMILLION. He wouldn't even say the word & she's been a very strong and vocal advocate. This will help make abortion a central & primary issue vs. Trump (which Biden couldn't do & we know it's a winning issue for dems)
Harris reinvigorates effort to frame election around abortion rights
Democrats view Vice President Harris as a more effective messenger on abortion than President Biden.
While President Biden has long struggled to talk about abortion — often declining to say the word and fumbling his answer to a question on abortion during his debate against Donald Trump — Harris has spoken forcefully on the issue to draw contrasts with Republicans. She embarked on a “reproductive freedoms tour” of key battleground states this year to decry abortion bans and has hosted frequent meetings with Democratic state legislators, attorneys general, abortion providers and advocates to strategize on how to fight the bans.

Where Kamala Harris Stands on the Issues: Abortion, Immigration and More She wants to protect the right to abortion nationally. Here’s what else to know about her positions.

From NYT article above
Ms. Harris called in March for an “immediate cease-fire” in Gaza and described the situation there as a “humanitarian catastrophe.” She said that “the threat Hamas poses to the people of Israel must be eliminated” but also that “too many innocent Palestinians have been killed.”
In an interview later that month, she emphasized her opposition to an Israeli invasion of Rafah, the city in southern Gaza to which more than a million people had fled. “I have studied the maps,” she said. “There’s nowhere for those folks to go, and we’re looking at about 1.5 million people in Rafah who are there because they were told to go there, most of them.”
She has said on multiple occasions that she supports a two-state solution.

I saw the quote about childless cat ladies and decided I needed that on a tshirt. Found a super cute one on teamharristee. And then drilled down and it’s not supporting the campaign.
From Shannon Watts: On Sunday night, 44,000 women gathered with @winwithblkwomen to support Kamala Harris, and they raised over $1 million. It’s our turn to show up. So that’s what we’re doing.
I'm going to the Houston area AKA debutante ball in about a week and a half because my "niece" is a debutante at the ball this year and her family invited my DD and me to join their table. I've never been to a debutante ball before, nor any other sorority event, and was already excited to get to see this awesome tradition. But now - I expect this one will have some special energy with our nation's first AKA presidential candidate. I'm excited to soak it all up.
I hope she brings up Project 2025 every single day, at every engagement, for the next 4 months to scare the bejesus out of people and make them aware of how dangerous Trump part deux would be.
Yes she needs to run on her merits but OMG we cannot let people forget that the alternative is democracy destroying!
Love that it shies away from nothing! Its refreshing to see all the issues front and center, no tiptoeing around. All overlaid with hopeful, happy people.
