A schoolgirl was reduced to tears after she was told by teachers she would not be included in the yearly photo because of her hairstyle.
Marcella Marino was told the bow in her hair breached the school's regulations and did not adhere to the uniform code. The four-year-old's hairdresser father Marcello fashioned his daughter's hair into the shape of a bow as she wanted to look "like a princess".
But the family was left "shocked" when Marcella returned home in tears from Ramsgate Holy Trinity Primary School in Kent, after teachers told her hair braids were not allowed.
"I am so disappointed", Marcello said. "I could understand if Marcella arrived with her hair dyed or something, but this is an elegant look which I think the school should be proud of.
"It isn’t a hair braid, it is quite simply a knot in the shape of a bow, and I should know because I’m a hairdresser," he fumed.
A spokesperson for the Broadstairs school said hair braids are not allowed and hair accessories must be dark in colour.
The school, which has 207 pupils, was rated "outstanding" by Ofsted and so will no longer be inspected by the independent watchdog.
The school photo has since been cancelled and rearranged after a mix-up with the photographer.
Marcello, who runs Marcello Hair Salon in Ramsgate, Kent, made the headlines in January last year for making a police complaint after he received 1,000 hate messages for his behaviour on TV show Come Dine With Me.
The hairdresser and father-of-two told one contestant that their main course "looks like a sick bag".
WTF are they doing telling a little girl that??? Tell the parents - fine - if you are really that hung up on it - and be discrete. But shame the little girl who was obviously talked into the look in the first place? Jackasses.
It's a religious school with a dress code. A lot of Christian denominations have regulations about hair. If he doesn't like it, he should take his daughter to a different school.
But to be honest, I'm surprised that it was just the hair that got her kicked out of the photo. The entire outfit is not appropriate for her age IMO. I can't stand that style of clothing on little girls.
The hair clearly goes against the dress code. If you're not allowed to have a braid, why would you think you'd be allowed to have a ridiculous Lady Gaga hair bow?
This father is just a gigantic attention whore and is using his daughter to get publicity.
I'm just confused as to what the dress code actually is. Dark colored hair accessories - ok, there is no accessory in her hair. And no braids. That is not a braid.
So...huh? Are buns also forbidden?
(though I'm with aw that I'm surprised those clothes meet dress code. And I'm sideeying the dangly earrings.)

that is a supercute hairstyle! seems like the school didn't like it but their code isn't vague/broad enough to allow proper application of their feelings in this instance.
The dress code reads as follows in re to hair accessories: It would be appreciated if these could be made of dark colours, maroon/navy blue/black. Hair braids/beads may not be worn.
that's it. From my reading of that I'm thinking they're actually talking about braids like:
Otherwise why in the world did they say braids/beads?
Also, there is no way she wore that outfit to school. They have a uniform. And the earings are a no-go at school either - studs only. So they dressed her up either before or after school for that picture.
i would've killed for long hair and a hairstyle like that as a kid.
the dad sounds like he was trying to do something fun and nice for his kid. he's a freaking hairdresser--you know when people are so all up in their industry that they lose sight of what's "normal"? like dentists with teeth so white that they're blue. or lawyers who are shocked that you drive a japanese car and not a german one.
i'll bet it's partly that he's a dramatic dude who's a hairdresser and partly that being a dramatic hairdresser type he didn't quite get that a nun would think that style was tantamount to hair porn or something.
Business for this guy is going to soar. Coincidence?
I'm so tired of "I broke the rule, but the rule is dumb, so there shouldn't be consequences for me."
And I'm not supporting "I broke the rule but the rule is dumb so there shouldn't be any consequences" but I am for "That is a dumbass rule so let's shine a light on it and get it rewritten/clarified/done away with." Because that is one dumbass rule.
I seriously side-eye not allowing kids with braids to wear beads. It's actually helpful in keeping the braid from unraveling. But, I bet they didn't ask one black person about this.
As for the little girl's hair, it's cute and I don't find it to be distracting enough to say she can't wear it.

See I really don't think he broke any of the stated rules though.
yeah, that's where I'm at. So braids/beads are banned. Bright hair accessories are banned. This is neither of those things.
I don't think that's hair splitting either (heh). If I was the parent in question it would never occur to me that this hair style would fall under that rule.
