so what is everyone's summer makeup plan? i normally forgo anything since it sweats off in 5 minutes. this is also why i am waiting on bangs until fall.
southern and west coast ladies, what do you do?!?
Shisedo has a tinted face sunscreen I'm planning to try this summer. I've heard it recommended again and again, so it must be half decent

You were happy he said that? I would hope that as women we would want a bit more for our daughters than for them to think their only value comes from being with a man be it their father or a future partner. I'm also horrified that the definition of independent somehow now includes being destined to marry a douche. This is not cute.
"There's the fear of, 'Oh my God, I'm going to click something and God knows what's going to show up on my Facebook wall"
So much this. I'm so perplexed by FB sometimes. Businesses my friends like pop up in my feed; i see coupons and deals theyve claimed; I see posts from a year or so ago (Friend likes this post from March 2012); I see comments my friends make on their friends pages and photos.... I'm afraid to like or comment anywhere because I never know who will actually see it, or when. I feel like FB is out of my control. There's no way I'd use it to log in anywhere.
Yes. All of this. I will never willingly sign up for a website with my FB credentials because they never done a single thing to indicate they are actually concerned about my privacy. Google, I tend to feel significantly more comfortable with and while I generally don't use Google to sign in, if I'm really lazy and it's a site I plan to not use much beyond the one time then I might sign in with Google.

This is horrifying.
I got stung by a jellyfish years ago in Costa Rica. Apparently, the random guy helping to translate also doesn't know spanish because he told me it was a plant. A year or so ago, I was talking about jellyfish with someone and it made me wonder if that's the what they mystery plant was. Sure enough, there were a bunch of people talking about jellyfish stings at the same beach and the stings were identical to what happened to me. It's better this way though. If I knew I had been stung by a jellyfish I wouldn't have gone back in the water that vacation or the next time I was there.

I spent a bunch of time this weekend figuring out that I'm a warm autumn. I think.
Now what?
I look at the colors and am like ohh I can wear, corals, navy blue, olive and a whole bunch of other colors/shades I don't have names for and therefore won't remember when I'm at the store. Ok ok, I also see goldenrod shino, but that's a glaze color (clay), not a real color. How do I actually use this chart in real life? Yes, I know this is likely the easy part for everyone else, but I'm lost.

When I read this kind of stuff I see red and my head has a mini internal explosion. Our justice system disgusts me on a regular basis and let's not pretend that keeping people in jail for not paying their public defender isn't lining anyone's pockets. This is what happens when you make large chunks of your "justice system" for profit or run by for profit companies
FWP: I got my satellite radio bill for the next year, the price went up and then all the taxes on top of it, make it seem ridiculous to keep paying for it. Why am I paying for satellite radio? Cox and Clear channel own all the local radio stations, except NPR of course, and they suck.
Every time I threaten to cancel Sirius they offer me 6 months for $25 or something along those lines.
I have nothing to do today except laundry. I did a full face. I played with the Smashbox full exposure palette sample card. The mattes are so buttery and perfect but the shimmers are atrocious. Just as the reviews say. Also tried a second Dior fluid stick sample in case the one the other day was a fluke. I kind of love this color but I really hate the feeling and application.
I believe the shimmers are designed to be used with the mattes and they're supposed to be patted on per smashbox. I haven't used the palette and I think I tossed the card I got, but I have a feeling that they're similar to the Bobbie Brown sparkle eyeshadows. The BB sparkle shadows are just pure sparkle, with no real shadow base in it, so they just naturally have a less awesome texture and they apply differently. The Smashbox ones may also be terrible, but I know I've seen people mention that they're not normal shimmery shadows.
Anyway, I now own yet another gel eyeliner. I hope these things last.
I was watching a youtube video the other day that recommended putting some in a sample jar and working from that so you don't have to open the main container every day. If they do dry out there are ways to bring it back to life.
I believe MAC also sells in China, so people have animal testing issues with the brand
But she often suggests other MAC colors as dupes for MAC or another NARS for NARS.
As far as I can tell, it's not even a gloss for a cream or a matte for a shimmer. It's just hey, here's this MAC color and here are three other MAC colors that are the same (but not same at all.)
The fuck? Unless it's limited edition that makes zero sense.
I generally want to smack her smile off her face because she annoys me, so I'll just add this to the list
Aside from the color match issue, I don't like the fact that her dudes are often at the same price point. If you have the scratch to buy fucking MAC, why wouldn't you just buy that MAC color? Am I missing something?
Now back to the color matching because NONE of the Runaway Hit colors are the same. Not a one. One of the steady going colors are close but not that close.
So yeah, color blind as hell.
I think it's because some people may have an allergy or an aversion to an ingredient MAC uses, the color gets discontinued but people see it on makeup blogs and still want it, people may love the color but want to buy the same color at Sephora/store where they have a coupon/etc.
But yes, color blind.
Also her eyebrows bug me. #petty

I wanted the NARScissist palette badly, until I swatched it. The shadows were really chalky and terrible the first time I saw the palette in a store. They weren't quite as bad in the second palette, but an $80 palette needs to be consistently high quality and neither of them were
What is with all the fucking makeup sales right now?! I need them to stop it. Uhg.
I feel like I'm hitting the point where I realize I'm being duped. The sales are constant. It's not just right now, it's been constant since January (that's when I started paying closer attention).
I am using the Real Techniques stippling brush for foundation. I like it a lot more than the Beauty Blender.
For $7, it's worth a shot.
This is the stippling brush I use and I have been really happy with it. I got mine in a set of three and I'm not as in love with the other two (blush and eyeshadow), but I really like the larger one.

I like my beauty blender, but I feel like I can never get it completely clean. I need the actual beauty blender cleaner, don't I? I just got a freebie white one today, there will be no pretending it's clean enough with this one.
As for foundation application. I've found the only way I don't like to apply it is with a standard foundation brush. I like my fingers, beauty blender and skunk/duo fiber, but a regular foundation brush always applies significantly more product (hello cake face) and I have more streaks to deal with.

The sun kit is now mine. It actually worked out perfectly. The Summerstash set has been sitting in my cart for 2 weeks waiting for something to get me over free shipping. I also got a Dior IT mascara sample and the Nars Orgasm lip gloss sample
The best part is that a $10 gift code magically appeared in my cart as I was ordering. I have a vague recollection of my last order having an issue and calling them about it, but I completely forgot they gave me $10. Woo hoo

Do all of the VIBs know about the VIB board on the Sephora forum? You really only need to know about it for one thing. They maintain lists of the current promo codes and things you can redeem your points for. They get new threads once in awhile, so these won't last forever, but ...
Post by PinkSquirrel on May 13, 2014 14:44:12 GMT -5
Crap, just when I told myself I was done the damn sun kit comes out. Last year it sold out before I got around to buying it, but I've always heard people rave about it.

My H and I love camping. We usually go with friends and leave the dog home, but last summer we went with just the two of us so we brought the dog. We learned that my dog does not like camping.
She loved the hiking and daytime outdoors part of the vacation, but not so much the camping part. The mosquitoes waged a constant attack on her. It rained both nights and the sound of the rain on the tent freaked her out, so she paced the tent all night. Then the next morning she woke up and 30 minutes later her whole face was swelling because she decided to play with a spider. And that was only our first 12 hours
What did we learn from my cautionary tale? You may or may not want to bring the dog. If you do, figure out something for bugs. I don't know what this is, but I can say with certainty that it is not rubbing lemons all over your dog. Also, make sure you know where the nearest vet is. There is all kind of trouble dogs can get into in the woods, so making sure you can get them cared for can make things significantly easier.
I'll second this -- I think waterproof mascara is pretty hard on your eyelashes.
Also -- do you try really hard to get your eye makeup off? Maybe try not specifically removing it because that can involve a lot of tugging on a delicate area. I never really remove my makeup -- I just scrub my eyes when I'm washing my face at night. Sometimes not all of it comes off, but it usually does when I wash my face in the morning. Worst case I have some black smudge under my eye, and I can get that off with a Kleenex after I put on my moisturizer.
I do wear waterproof but I dont really attack my eyes to get it off. I dont even really remove it...I just kinda swipe my eyes when I wipe thr rrest of my face at night and then clean up any leftover smudges in the morning. But like half my lower lashes are missing.
Based on some googling, it sounds like it can also dry out your lashes. I'm not finding many amazing sources, but this is the one that entertained me the most. It's from a blogger who used to work in the cosmetics industry
WATERPROOF This is bad shit. As in really!* Our lab techs wear a full radioactive proof gear when they handle this (Ok, i exaggerate but you get the idea). These are harmful to your lashes and with continued use makes them wither and die. As well, the formula has nothing to do with its non-waterproof version. We only say it is the water proof version of our best selling mascara so that the good sales and brand equity rubs off on it. (And it works!)
But of course, as marketing-know-all-geniuses, we do not listen to our lab people's warnings and we make a killing on waterproof mascara during the summer months - especially on those who want to look fabulous at all costs in land and in water. We figure, if you use it only during the summer months, chances are you will not trace the demise of your lashes to this product- so everyone, that means mainly us - are happy.
Everyone needs to check their local outlets for The Cosmetic Company Outlet.
It's an Estee Lauder outlet and Estee Lauder makes MAC, Bobbie brown, Clinique, Smashbox, Origins ... yeah. It was my own personal heaven yesterday. They don't have everything, but my bank account promises you they have enough.

My eyelashes are unhappy with me. I'm getting a lot of breakage and stuff. I normally have rather thick lashes but at this point they are average at best.
Do you wear waterproof mascara? I've read that waterproof can do more damage in large part because it's so hard to take off. So, if you're using waterproof maybe try regular. If you're already using regular then your lashes probably need a bit of a break some days.

I used Clinique in high school. I loved their Quickliners, but have no idea if they were actually any good. I'm planning to pick one up when Nordstrom does their Clinique bonus at the end of the month,
