I’m an outlier and don’t really like my Yetis. I do love all the Simple Modern travel mugs I have, both flip top and straws are totally leak proof and drinks stay hot or cold longer than the Yeti.
I have a cold so am going to take it easy all weekend, I’m getting an endoscopy on Wednesday and desperately want to be recovered by then so I don’t have to reschedule. I can barely eat anything and want to figure out what’s going on!
Hmm, my H wears hats pretty much anytime he’s outside or with people other than me/our kids and his parents, including at work (blue collar job). He wears them both forwards and back and I think looks good always so I guess I don’t really have a preference.
Although, 13 year old me loved Fred Durst in that backwards red yankee hat…
We just got the SkyLight a few weeks ago (was on sale on Amazon for Mother’s Day). It synced very easily to our iCals. We have one calendar for each member of the family and one for the whole family. Syncing was pretty easy.
Does anyone use their Skylight to post what’s for dinner? I’ve heard of people doing this but not sure how. I guess I could create a separate calendar for dinner so it shows each day. Or maybe use the List function?
There’s actually a dinner plan option when you add something to the calendar. I don’t use it for that because we just make a menu for the week and each day pick what sounds good and we have the time for, but it seemed to work well when I tried it for a few days!
If you get the subscription you can use “magic import” which creates calendar invites from forwarded emails, pdf, etc
You actually don't even need the subscription - you can just add your Skylight calendar as an attendee on meetings. It has its own email address to invite to stuff to make sure it ends up on the Skylight. Or you can sync the calendars directly.
I don't find it necessary to pay the $39 a month just for it to read a pdf for me to make the calendar event. I'm likely going to add my own details to it when I put it on my calendar anyway.
Good to know! I probably won’t renew the subscription either, we bought from Costco and it came with a year free.
I agree with others that for some reason my H looks at and adds to the skylight all the time but never checked the Google calendar. My kids use the chore chart too. I was hesitant to buy because of the cost but it’s been great!
Will it also synch with Microsoft Outlook calendars?
This would be an immense game changer for us. We don't have littles at home, but we do both have very intensive schedules/activities and I am tired of writing them on the calendar when I can think about it. If I can schedule it into a google calendar or my outlook calendar, then I can better keep track of the actual time.

I’ve been having what I thought were gallbladder attacks nightly for almost two weeks and spent the day in the ER yesterday trying to get answers, turns out it might just be reflux, lol. There was a woman in the waiting room vomiting like crazy, her boyfriend brought her a Mountain Dew and she drank it! It didn’t seem like a good idea and didn’t seem to help the violent puking at all. People are so interesting.
It’s nice here today so we’re going to buy plants after t- ball and put together new patio furniture.
That “private yard” line is total bs. If they let anyone do whatever they wanted with their private yard, the HOA would not exist. I’m sorry you’re still dealing with this. Regardless of the outcome of the election I hope you continue to be a thorn in their side, lol.
I think I might be having gallbladder issues. I’ve had upper stomach pain nightly for over a week and (TMI) pale stools. I went to urgent care Monday and they said it’s probably a virus and will probably get better, but see my primary care doctor if it doesn’t. It seems to be getting worse so I’m going to try to get an appt today.
I’m normally off on Wednesdays but have worked at least a couple hours for the past several, I think I’m going to take Friday afternoon off to make up for it. I’m turning 40 in October and have been wanting to go to the jewelry store by myself to browse for gift ideas so maybe I’ll do that.
We’re taking DS1 to Washington DC at the end of the month and I just managed to get tickets for the Washington monument, which was his #1 request. My parents were never able or willing to travel or do stuff my sister and I were interested in so I’m feeling so grateful for the ability to travel and have these kinds of experiences with my kids.
My dad has diabetes and early stage kidney failure, has a colovesicle fistula that will require surgery within the next few months, and had esophageal cancer about 10 years ago. I saw him last week for the first time since Christmas and he looks like an old man for the first time which was so jarring. We are not close at all, but I offered to take him to surgery and he declined as his girlfriend’s son is going to take him instead. That kind of stung and I’m anticipating lots more complicated feelings as he inevitably continues to decline. Ugh
I bought a skylight calendar this week and my H did a custom installation for me with the power cord run inside the wall. So far I love it!
We went to this weird liquidation place today run by a local well known asshole. It’s like bins and bins of Amazon and Target returns and each day through the week the stuff in the bins gets cheaper. Today it was all $10, and man it was a bunch of junk. We did find some anal beads and a serving tray shaped like a penis though (did not buy either, lol)
I feel like I’ll listen to a song on repeat for a while, get tired of if and move onto something else. A couple that come to mind though are Bohemian Rhapsody and Toxic.
I know these guys are Trumpers but I also love the one hit wonder Kryptonite by Three Doors Down, lol.
If you want to combine a bit of sightseeing with shopping, you can walk on the ferry, there’s a cute little town just up the hill from the ferry terminal on Bainbridge Island (Winslow) with a small bookstore and other local shops and I’m sure coffee shops (as they’re everywhere here, lol.) I recommend the ferry to all visitors, it’s cheap and the views are beautiful!
I was diagnosed with pre diabetes for the second time a couple weeks ago and have been cutting way back on carbs and sugar. I’m dreading tomorrow because I know there’s going to be so much candy I really shouldn’t have. I am going to allow myself one cinnamon roll for breakfast, but this will be the first Easter of my life I’m not going to gorge myself on Peeps and Ronins Eggs.
I usually say “2 fingers on top” to get the right length. They do two fingers horizontally or stacked, so it ends up about an inch? I hate this stuff too and usually make my kids point to a picture on the wall of the barbershop. That’s definitely led to some questionable results too, lol.
Thank you all again so much! I messaged my PCP today and she prescribed the freestyle Libre 3, I picked it up today and am going to apply it tomorrow morning (wanted to hang out in the hot tub tonight and not worry I was destroying the adhesive on day one.) I’m a little nervous but excited to see actual data and be able to make changes based on it. The pharmacist spent like 10 minutes telling me how great it is, lol.
Another question, the app doesn’t seem to have a good method to track food and exercise, other than making a note and the ability to add number of carbs. How did you all reconcile or document food and corresponding glucose levels?
Good job! Hopefully that was the worst part and things will be relatively smooth from here out (though I know you will handle anything that comes your way well.)
Your daughter is so lucky to have you. I really wish I had a role model like you growing up - setting healthy boundaries, not accepting poor treatment, doing what’s right for you and your DD, staying calm.
Are the treadmills today still really hard on your legs, in terms of impact and shin splints and stuff? Or have they improved a lot? I keep wanting to get some kind of home exercise equipment. I’ve never been able to pull the trigger on the peloton because I really don’t particularly enjoy biking. I’ve always felt more likely to walk or run, but I’m also concerned about the impact and if I would develop leg or foot problems overtime now that I am almost 50.
Strangely, I feel like if I did get a treadmill, I would be more likely to also do spin off routines with weights or yoga, or whatever, once I was in exercise clothes, and using the app.
Have you considered a rower? I love mine and find I am more likely to follow a workout on it with a quick strength routine, and it’s no impact. My H has a stationary bike and I hate it. I’m considering adding a treadmill so am interested in the recs and answer to your question!
Thank you all! There are some good points to consider here, I’m going to check with my doctor to see what she recommends. I think I would do better with a continuous monitor but not sure she will approve at this stage, but I’m very curious to know more about how what I’m eating impacts blood sugar.
I am a type 2 diabetic and have to monitor my glucose. I have a freestyle libre 3 that continuously monitors my glucose. My insurance does not cover this particular level of freestyle libre, (they did cover the freestyle libre 1) so I can tell you the out-of-pocket price. It is $75 for two monitors that last two weeks each. I think you have to have a prescription, so if you can afford $75 a month, it may be worth asking your doctor for a prescription to see how foods and exercise are affecting your numbers.
I looked at those briefly last night, having the pricing is helpful, thank you! I may see if my doctor will write me a prescription.
I just found out I’m prediabetic again, after working hard to reverse it in 2021. The first time I attributed it to pandemic stress, I don’t have that excuse this time as I’m significantly less stressed out these days. I’m at the high end of the healthy weight range, and I know the drill with changing my diet and adding more exercise, but am considering also monitoring my glucose and am wondering if anyone else has done that (either for pre-diabetes, gestational or T1/T2)? Was it worth it and any tips?
We went for spring break last year with a 3 and 9 year old. We drove from Seattle so had a car but once we checked into the hotel only used it for a day trip to the Winchester Mystery House (which I’ve always wanted to go to so was worth it for us, but I would say to skip unless you have a strong interest.) Highlights were a self guided tour of Chinatown, I found a free walking tour online and it was great, the sea lions at pier 39, Alcatraz (must do IMO), my kids loved the Musee Mechanique but I though it was really grimy, and Muir Woods.
For my fellow peeps lovers, has anybody tried the kettle corn version? They’re soooo good. I’m cutting sugar so have been avoiding the Easter candy aisle, but they were exclusive to Kroger last year.
We had a very rough weekend with DS1, and I need to call first thing to make him a therapy appointment, and one for H and I as we really need help helping him. Luckily the weekend ended on a good note with playtime outside and a board game that both seemed to life his spirits.
I have a physical tomorrow and am so curious to see my bloodwork results as I’ve been working out and eating well for the first time in years.
This cat sounds like a menace, lol. And 20 pet birds!? I agree with others to try to take him back and put him in an enclosed space. I’m afraid if you keep him, even just in the laundry room and porch, he will destroy your walls, baseboards and floor with pee.
