If you have a switch, Jackbox games are super fun and silly. I think some allow for up to about 10 players (everyone plays using their phone or tablet), but you could easily pair up.
To join in on the fun, my husband had his last day at work on 12/15 (laid off) and on 12/16 our washing machine broke. We also replaced both the washer and dryer because they were 14 years old and the dryer wasn’t working the most efficiently either. They are finally being delivered tomorrow.
I’m sorry! What did you do for laundry in the meantime? I’ve never used a laundromat and am dreading the thought of hours spent waiting around in one, but the alternative is using my in-laws machines and that’s not appealing either.
mcppalmbeach This might sound heartless, but what would happen if she just stopped feeding them? Would they transition to catching their own food? I don’t know much about feral cats but that does not sound like a good situation for your mom at all.
The control board of my dryer melted yesterday, it’s 12 years old and the repair would probably cost as much as a new one so we’re going to get both a new dryer and washer, as they’re stacked and it’s probably only a matter of time before the washer bites the dust too. Not thrilled to have an unexpected $2k expense the week after Christmas!
We had an ok Christmas, my DS1 had a huge meltdown over Santa and friendship stuff at midnight Christmas Eve, and I was sad for him, so that kind of put a damper on things. There’s also been ongoing family drama which made gatherings kind of awkward. I ended up taking the tree down mid morning yesterday because it was incredibly dry, and took down all the other decorations this morning, so it really feels like Christmas is over. Now the kids and I are off until next Tuesday and looking forward to some relaxing immediate family only time!
Our Christmas tree is the worst, driest one we have ever had. I’m sitting here listening to needles fall, and the top foot is pretty much just bare sticks.
Please don’t use the lights on it. I think you know this, but just a reminder.
Yes, it’s such a fire hazard! It’s coming down after dinner tomorrow, and if we weren’t hosting would have been down days ago, lol

I got a facial on Wednesday and it destroyed my skin. It’s so red and puffy, and started itching this morning. I’m not sure if the exfoliant just irritated it or if it’s an allergic reaction to something she used but I’m so annoyed.
I have my annual PCP visit today. I brought a list. Isn’t aging great?
I need to make an eye doctor appointment because all of a sudden this year I can’t see when driving at night, just like my grandparents, lol. I’m not ready for readers but that’s probably close too.
I realized last night that I forgot to take my bcp on Monday. I doubled up but am really hoping I don’t have bleeding or anxiety from the disruption (I take it mostly to control hormonal anxiety.)
My kids are spending the night at my in-laws and I’d really like to have a relaxing couple of days but have so much left to do to prep for Christmas. My mom and sister are flighting but my mom apologized and both are coming over for Christmas Eve. My mom is acting totally mopey so should be interesting.
7costanza, that sounds like a truly horrible experience. You poor thing!
I deleted because I felt like it was TMI, lol. It was horrible! The worst was that I still had to get on another connecting flight. I seriously considered rebooking and finding a hotel near the airport for the night but had gotten through the worst of it by the time the first flight landed (and was already delayed by a day getting home.)
Can the kids get together independently of warring factions? Anywhere that's neutral ground as an alternative? Hopefully adults can not be asses for a few hours, but I know in many families, mine included, that can prove impossible.
Possibly, but I would have to be the one to initiate, plan and host and I don’t know if I have it in me, lol. My mom can definitely be civil for a few hours but even suggesting that my sister try to set the fight aside for the sake of the kids at Christmas will set her off so I’m just letting her decide if she wants to attend.
I’m planning to redecorate my office area (half of a big open space) over the next couple weeks and can’t wait. The entire downstairs has been taken over by stuff my H and sons are into. The only space I have for myself in the house is a tiny corner desk I work from, meanwhile my H doesn’t work from home and has two desks and is slowly filling all cabinet and shelf space downstairs with legos and games. I ordered a new mantel, made H consolidate into one desk and am going to sell the giant TV.
My mom and sister are in the middle of a huge fight and my sister probably won’t come to Christmas which is super disappointing. It’s 90% my mom’s fault and I’m so annoyed with her, but I’ve had so many difficult conversations at work lately that I don’t have the mental energy to talk to either of them about it. I need to see if there’s anything fun going on on Christmas Eve so my kids will be distracted from missing their cousin.
We give daycare and school teachers a $50 gift card, $20 to the milkman, $100 to the cleaner (which is a little less than the cost of a bi-weekly cleaning), but nothing else.
I’m glad it went well! What did you end up with? And was the asshole from last year there?
I got slippers, a head massager thing and a bottle of wine, which I’m fine with. Mostly I was happy someone liked what I brought. And the asshole wasn’t there! So it was a success all around lol
My dad has a bunch of health issues but thank god lives with his girlfriend who does 100% of his care. He was a pretty bad dad so I am glad I don’t have to deal with much. If she passes before him I guess he will just move into assisted living. He’s on a very limited budget and options may be limited but I won’t contribute. His mind is still very sharp so I don’t expect I’ll need to manage his finances or anything like that.
My mom is 70 and generally healthy, though I suspect has an eating disorder (which predates any aging issues) which has made her frail and she can barely hear. I drove behind her leaving a restaurant the other day and watched her drive up onto a sidewalk and almost take out a fire hydrant. I let her drive me to brunch a couple months ago and never again. My sister and niece still ride with her frequently and I worry for all of them.
My in-laws moved into a senior community a few years ago and have a great setup for aging in place. I hope to have a similar setup when the time comes!
I’m in a fight with our city council over the lack of sidewalks and am so irritated. They won’t put them on one side of the street because it’s reserved for horses. We live in suburbia and there are maybe 10 horses around, and none near where I want the sidewalk. I’m sure there were many more when the city incorporated like 60 years ago and there are a few loud boomers who have been here forever and love the idea we’re a horse town. The one council member I emailed pretty much said too expensive and I have horses so won’t change the legislation. They also fight tooth and nail to not allow anything other than one single family home on a big lot. Ugh
Would the sidewalks be on land owned by the Township, or in front of private property?
It’s unclear but there is (muddy uneven) room for these non-existent horses so I assume there’s at least some kind of easement if it’s not public land.

We like to do crafts next to each other. I have different sewing/painting projects and he likes to paint mini figures. Sometimes we’ll watch something we don’t have to pay close attention to and chat about it while listening. Dateline is good for this since the audio is more important than video.
We also have a hot tub and like to hang out in there (naked, but doesn’t always lead to sex, its sometimes just fun and intimate.)
This is the first year I don’t have to buy gifts for any adult other than stocking stuffers for my H, and it’s like a weight has been lifted. We’re going to a Christmas market and trolly in a nearby town that has a bunch of cute shops and I’m so looking forward to browsing around for just myself, and not being constantly on the lookout for gifts for other people!
I would do things differently now, but I had never really dreamed about my wedding. We were young and broke, my in-laws gave us money but we used it for a down payment, and my parents were divorcing and not willing to help beyond I think splitting the cost of the cake, so we did an afternoon wedding with no alcohol. The venue was beautiful and we didn’t go into debt for any of it, but I bet some of our guests complained, lol.
I find it weird that famous people have to set up P.O. Boxes to accept packages and letters. Why do fans send gifts to them?
I follow a farmer near me. She has a few famous show horses. She does a gift unboxing video a few times a week. It’s good for the animals, terrible paintings or drawings, clothes, gift cards, etc. it’s fucking weird. I am one more gift unboxing before I stop following
Multiple people a week are sending gifts to these horses?! Or are they to the horse farmer? Either way that is so weird and fascinating.
For some reason I feel like my 8 year old nephew needs a kids metal detector. My sister didn't say it was a bad idea but I just can't get it out of my head lol.
Do it! My son got one for his 7th or 8th birthday and it was a huge hit!
