This all makes me so sad for your son. I’m also sad for you that for whatever reason you think this behavior is acceptable.
My dad drove drunk with me and my sister but never got a DUI with us in the car, when I look back on those times I wonder why the fuck he had so little care for us and why my mom didn’t protect us. There were many other unhealthy dynamics going on in our family, but it’s definitely impacted my relationship with both parents. I would have been so much better off if my mom had left him and gotten therapy for all of us. Going to therapy as an adult (once I was ready) was one of the best things I’ve done for myself.
We have a shared Google calendar and he is good about looking at it before making plans, adding appointments to it, etc. He didn’t always use it consistently and it’s not his style to be so regimented with scheduling so I appreciate that he does it anyway because he knows how much it helps me.
The physical work of running household with two kids is split pretty evenly, though I do take more of the mental load. What helps with that is that he is very appreciative and will talk through any issue I’m dealing with.
We are also both introverts and need time alone to recharge so one night a week we do our own thing after the kids go to bed (he plays video games and I soak in the hot tub.) we also take turns sleeping in until 10am on weekends. There’s also full support when one of us has plans with friends, the other will be on kid duty with no pushback (or very rarely lol)
My DS2 has been prescribed a 3 day poop clean out, and we need to replace one toilet and fix another so there’s definitely a theme to this weekend lol.
I am confident your and your kids lives will be 100x better once you’re no longer married to this man, regardless of the custody and money situation. Sending you so many good thoughts for a smooth process and/or strength to get through it all. I know you will come out on top on the other side!
I don’t see much about MLM’s anymore, but do see a lot of former colleagues and others in my field (HR) becoming life coaches. Almost all of them are people I would never take advice from, lol.
Please tell me the judge laughed and laughed because that is INSANE.
It was a long hard stare over the top of his glasses. Absolutely beautiful
How old were your kids when this happened? I’m picturing this dummy holding onto a spreadsheet for years and finally thinking he’s going to be vindicated in court, lol. I hope he walked out of there with his tail between his legs.
Is it on a second story? I live in a relatively HCOL area and I am quoting a new toilet and about $500 is standard across the board unless you want a top of the line Toto or something like that.
It’s on the ground floor with slab foundation. $500 is much more in line with what I was expecting, I’m sure we could pick a cheap toilet to bring the cost down a bit but just labor is $1000.
We got a new washer and dryer a months ago, the installers broke the toilet when it was delivered and the company is so freaking slow to respond to anything related to the claim. I finally went ahead and got an estimate to have it replaced and it’s going to be $1700 😳. Our neighbor is a plumber and confirmed that’s in line with what he would charge. I was thinking it would be like $300 plus the cost of a new toilet!
Is it just the toilet itself or is there actual plumbing involved? Because putting in a toilet is pretty easy for DIYer. If it's just the toilet, I might be inclined to just do it, but submit the estimate you got to the company that broke it for reimbursement.
It’s just replacing the toilet plus the piece that connects to the floor, no change to the actual plumbing. The delivery company just denied the claim (I’m am filing a dispute), so we may end up doing it ourselves anyway because no way am I paying $1700 out of pocket.

If it was scripted SOMEONE would have spilled the beans by now. I always use Antonio Brown as my example (since we are Pittsburghers and he's a former Steelers player) There is no way in the world that if he knew everything was scripted that he would have kept that a secret. He'd be shouting it from the rooftops.
I always think about this with conspiracy theories. I just don’t think it’s realistic that people can keep quiet on these type of things.
Those saying Taylor Swift doesn’t need the NFL, I do believe that’s true but I also believe she likes attention and this is a way for her to get more. I have no real evidence to back that up, just a feeling lol. I don’t think her relationship is fake, but she and Travis Kelce are probably taking advantage of the opportunity.
Also, I’m watching the Netflix show on quarterbacks right now and it’s making me actively dislike Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. He’s so annoying and I hate their racist chant. I do like the Falcons quarterback they’re also featuring.
I’m not in your zone but check out square foot gardening! In my limited gardening experience it seems like the best way to get a huge crop from a small space, and it’s very easy to follow once you have it set up.
It seems like an on demand hot water setup at the sink would be best since you’re boiling water so frequently. I’ve only ever used one at work so I don’t have a recommendation.
I also really love my Ninja coffee bar, it can brew anywhere from a small cup to a full carafe. It does have a milk frother but it’s kind of tucked behind the machine so doesn’t add bulk to the machine.
There was a recall on charcuterie packs from Costco yesterday, which we ate for dinner Wednesday night. Hoping we all make it through the weekend without salmonella!
I would leave it alone, but my Roman Empire is a house that was empty when we first moved to our first house in 2009. In the middle of a very nice suburban subdivision, there was a house with no mailbox. Totally empty inside. No one ever came or went but there was a lawn service. I figured it would eventually go up for sale (most houses in the subdivision sold in under 30 days) but it never did. We moved in 2014; it was still empty. We drive by sometimes and it is STILL empty. What happened to the people? Is it an estate dispute?
Which is to say that a house can sit empty a very long time.
In these types of cases I always assume it’s owned by an international investor. For a while we had a bunch of houses/lots in our town that sold and sat vacant for a super long time, over the past few years most then sold to developers.
My dad is probably a borderline hoarder, his current girlfriend seems to keep him in check a bit but he pays for a huge storage unit that’s filled with totally useless junk (scuba suits he hasn’t worn in 50+ years, rusted out bbq, etc). My mom is very much on the opposite end of the spectrum and she was the primary parent growing up (they divorced when I was an adult). My in laws keep things tidy and clean but have a lot of stuff everywhere. I would describe their style as maximalist, lol.
Both my H and I love to get rid of stuff and don’t have a lot of clutter around, with the exception of kids toys and legos. He also goes through phases where he collects things and that can get overwhelming. The person who said they choose to use most spaces in their house as living spaces rather that storage described it perfectly. I will say it took some time for me to get to this point, I used to hang onto things and would feel guilty or sad about getting rid of them if there was any kind of sentimental attachment. It sounds dumb but the Marie Condo book was truly life changing for me, it helped reframe clutter and clearing stuff out.
My H and I are both off and the kids are at my in laws, so we’re having a lazy day. I will probably go pick up trash in our neighborhood later as a very small act of service.
My H started a YouTube channel with DS1 and one of his favorite musical artists commented on his latest video the other day, I loved seeing how excited they both were ❤️. The channel has nothing to do with music and only has like 25 subscribers so it’s weird the artist even found it.
I love tuna noodle casserole! It’s so smelly but the ultimate comfort food for me. 3 packs of tuna, a can of cream of mushroom soup, 3/4 cup milk and 3 cups of cooked noodles. Bake at 375 for 20 minutes. I usually add buttery breadcrumbs too.
My LL bean slippers had zero support (which I prefer) and barely lasted a year. I was so disappointed! Now I have some from Overland Sheepskin (the Lily) and love them, they’re probably 4 years old and I just bought new insoles this year but they’re otherwise in great shape. They go up over my ankles and are super warm. They have some options with more support that would probably work for you.
My H is a UW fan and it irrationally annoys me so I’m not looking forward to the game tonight, especially if they lose. My degree is from the rival state school but I never lived on/near campus and feel zero affiliation as an alumni, so it really shouldn’t bother me but he didn’t go to UW either and I don’t understand why he likes them so much.
We did a cash out refinance when rates were much lower, hopefully they will drop again in the not too distant future. We had a bunch of projects we wanted to do so got estimates then added a cushion (we took out $50k cash). Our payments went up a few hundred but I like that they’re fixed (other than taxes and insurance.) anything in the future we plan to save for or sell ESPP stocks to fund.
Any chance you signed up for a legal plan through your employer? We came very close to suing a contractor in 2021 and were able to consult with an attorney for free through mine. He ended up finishing the project (though the work is pretty poor), so we didn’t have to actually file anything.
I agree with ending the email with asking how he plans to make you whole. I’ll be surprised if you get anything out of him but it’s worth a try!
We’re doing Disney, an extended family trip to the southwest, and possibly Washington DC with DS1 later in the year so staying local for spring break and spending a couple nights at a lodge at a national park a couple hours from us. We will do some hiking and exploring the rainforest. I’m looking forward to disconnecting from technology, the lodge only gives you 30 minutes of WiFi per day and doesn’t have TVs. I may regret this when the time comes, lol.
Our new washer and dryer were delivered today, but the installers have to come back because they’re stacked and totally unbalanced. They also broke the toilet in the laundry room, but luckily it sounds like Costco will pay for a plumber to come out and fix or replace it. Other than that I’m very happy to be able to do laundry again!
We looked at washers and dryers at Home Depot last night, but ended up ordering from Costco for like $200 less, and they can deliver them on Saturday so I won’t need to use a laundromat or my in-laws, my kids may just need to wear pjs for a couple days, lol.
I hope they come through for you! Ours were supposed to be delivered today from Costco. We got no call setting up delivery last night so I chatted with them this morning and they apparently haven’t even been shipped by the vendor yet. I have to wait another 24-48 hours to get a call from someone about it and who knows when we will be getting them now. This isn’t the case with us but what if one of us had to take unpaid time off work to sit here waiting for a delivery that isn’t coming. The person I chatted with says they have no way of monitoring orders for delivery dates. 😒
Oh man, that sucks! I did get a text and email saying they shipped, so I’m really hoping they actually arrive on time!

I’m not over 50 but during the pandemic loved to play Animal Crossing, and now play Mario Party with my kids regularly. There are also a ton of Lego games I think are really fun for all ages!
