Im planning an annual girls trip this summer with friends I’m not super close to but have know forever. I’m the only one who doesn’t want to share a room which is so odd to me. Two of the women are fine and close to each other so will share, of the other two one has the personality of a snail and the other never shuts up, so the thought of sharing with either of them was making me want to skip the whole thing.
I am not really understanding why you would go on a trip with people you're not close to and don't seem to like (a snail!), but I think when you go on trips with people you DO like it's very normal to share a room.
I’m starting to wonder the same thing, lol. I do have fun on these trips generally, and like three of the four women. I really wouldn’t want to share a room with anyone other than my H and kids though. I need time to recharge by myself at the end of the day and my own space.
Today is going to be a very rough day at work and I don’t feel prepared. It will be dealing with a lot of other peoples emotions which I sometimes find so draining. Usually I treat myself to a coke or cookies or something but I’m trying to cut back on sugar.

7costanza, I my area, animal control wants to collect dead wildlife for rabies testing. We’ve called for raccoons and groundhogs before. Managed to get our dog in 30-day rabies quarantine for it (she was vaccinated, so just home quarantine, but we weren’t supposed to let her interact with anyone out if our household).
I just looked it up and only bats have rabies here. After some googling it’s still unclear on whether I should have called animal control but maybe I’ll give them a call to check.
We found a dead raccoon in the yard yesterday and suspect it was poisoned. We bagged it up and put it in the trash but now I’m debating whether I should have called animal control. I don’t know if they care about potential poisonings of wildlife but I am worried for the cats that wander around the neighborhood.
DS1 was in his first play last night and did SO good! He had a few small parts and said all his lines so loud and clear (other kids were hard to hear.) Both performances ended up selling out and not everyone we invited preordered tickets and were just going to buy them at the door. I don’t think the school anticipated this much interest, lol.
I have never left either of my kids in a hotel room alone. Mostly because of the fear of a fire, the same reason we didn’t consider houses with bedrooms on separate floors when we were house hunting.
I recently went to an out of town family wedding and I was shocked that a family member let her 3 and 5 year old kids play catch in the parking lot around check out time while she watched from the (sealed) window of her third story room.
I went in winter so did not rent a car, instead we did a golden circle bus tour. With two days I would do that one day, and spend a day exploring Reykjavik. If you can swing it with the timing, the Blue Lagoon was also a great experience, and we were able to go straight from the airport.
Someone at school drop off this morning was driving a new G wagon. We live in a middle class area and 99% of people drive Subarus or Honda type cars so it definitely stuck out.
I need to take DS2 to an eye specialist this week, he has an eye that kind of drifts sometimes. I really hope they don’t try to get him to wear a patch to treat it (do they even do those anymore?) because I know it would be a total battle.
They do still do patching. My kid did it for about 3 years and my friend has a kid who is doing it currently. If you do have to go that route I have tips to share LOL
I will definitely ask for tips if we need to do it! Thanks!

Are you looking for actual sports bras only, or are you open to wireless bras in general? I have yet to find a sports bra that doesn’t give uniboob, but like my Chantelle Norah wireless (I’m 32H)
It doesn’t need to be an actual sports bra. I guess it doesn’t have to be wireless either. I think my brain went to “sports bra” bc it would likely have “performance” material. Moisture wicking, fast dry. I hear Japan is humid AF in June and I’m a sweater.
Gotcha. For moisture wicking, I have a True and Co bralette that dries quickly. Support is pretty minimal though…
I'll add a request here: Sports Bras but not for "sport" lol. I want some comfortable but supportive sports bras for my upcoming trip to Japan that I can wear all day, and can be sink-washed.
Ideally comfortable sports bras big boobs (multiple D's here) and don't' create uniboob (let's get some separation!). Bonus for breathable, quick dry.

I love Felina bikini cut undies with the lace waistband. Costco used to carry them but I have seen them in a couple years so recently ended up just ordering directly from Felina.
I would wander around the French quarter and maybe do the WWII museum (it’s huge and could take a full day+, but the movie is cool if you’re on a time crunch.) When I went in June there was an interesting museum at Jackson Square focused on Katrina and Mardi Gras that had cheap entry. If you can handle the heat we also really enjoyed cemetery and ghost/vampire tours. I went with my H but all those activities would be fine for teens. Have fun!
I pay the cleaning lady with a check, and the sewer bill, though I use my credit unions bill pay for that so I’m not the one actually writing it. I shop at Costco for my in-laws and they write me a check for their stuff. Otherwise everything now is electronic or credit card.
bearssadiemccallister84 my 10 year old does tae kwon do and every time we turn around they want more money. The hounded us for MONTHS to add patches to his uniform in some specific configuration, we finally bought the patches in the fall but haven’t put them on yet. Once they had their $20, not a peep about them not being on his uniform. The owner wants to be called “grand master name” (GM), but we call him “grubbing money name” lol
I wear only underwear to bed and shower at night so always wear a fresh pair. I mostly wear leggings during the day and don’t wear underwear with those so I just take it off in the morning.
I’ve been trying to cut way back on my sugar intake, in part to lose weight, just modified a muffin recipe to use less than half the normal sugar plus added an egg. The batter was not great so I’m hoping loading them with butter will make them taste ok when finished. Or I could have just not made the muffins, lol.
On the theme of weight, I was going to wear an old dress to an event next weekend and tried it on last night and yikes. Gaining 15-20 lbs since I last wore it means it was very very short and tight so I need to figure something else out.
I also think I need to throw out my scale, I’ve only ever tried to lose weight after pregnancy (my youngest is 4) and this time I’m finding I’m weighing myself 2x per day which really isn’t healthy. I’m by struggling a bit with aging in general, and wishing I hadn’t placed so much emphasis on my looks when I was younger…
Does anyone grow strawberries in their home gardens? I’m thinking of adding some in my backyard this year, but trying to figure out if they’re as fussy as the internet grow guides have led me to believe.
I do and they are extremely low maintenance. I literally do nothing to them and they come back with a vengeance every year. The only issue is that usually the squirrels get to them before I can.
For years I’ve been a sweaty sleeper, not hot flashes or feeling hot, just wake up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat. I was ready to drop $400 on a bed jet, but read that it could be due to a drop in blood sugar. I stopped eating a 10pm sugary snack and the night sweats are vastly reduced. I’m hoping cutting the snack will also help me lose weight but I’m just happy to have dry sheets at this point!
I got my boys little toys and treats, and we will make lobster for dinner tonight. DS1 has a fever and had to stay home from school but otherwise seems fine, so hopefully he’ll be up for a family board game or something after dinner. I got my H a ridiculous fake flower arrangement in the shape of a shoe, I never know what to get him for Valentine’s Day, there isn’t really a traditional masculine gift and he’s picky anyway, lol.
I have no idea what Ash Wednesday is about, but I’m going to a service and luncheon for it today at DS2’s daycare, which is at a Lutheran church. I could Google but figured I’ll go in blind and learn something new with him.
I was on the younger side for my area when DS1 was born (28) and am the youngest in our group of parent friends, by 10+ years in some cases. I only know that because I’ve been to or heard about various milestone birthdays over the years. I have never given the age of other parents a second thought, we’re all going through the same stuff with kids, careers, life, and to me, feel like peers.
I have two of the Coway ones recommended by Wire Cutter and they work well. We have one set to auto so it runs on low constantly but turn up when it’s the air gets bad from cooking or using cleaning chemicals. The other we turn to high at night as white noise in our bedroom. They’re definitely loud on the highest setting but I don’t notice them on low.
I really love my H and being married to him. The thought of doing the work to find someone else as great as he is and as good as we are together sounds completely exhausting and I have no interest. Plus as a step child myself (my parents divorced and remarried when I was already an adult) I would be extremely hesitant to put my kids through that and would be very slow to trust anyone else around them.
Are you actually going to be cheering, or just making private comments on the break? If the latter you could point out something specific they did particularly well prior to the one minute break and something like “keep up the good work”
This might be regional, but a glassybaby with a name/color tied to some significance for her would be nice. Not sure how popular glassybaby is outside of Seattle but they are very pretty!
Based on the name I'm imagining some kind of doll made out of glass which I hope isn't right because that seems weirdly terrifying.

My H and I once had to give the heimlich to a random kid choking on a piece of hard candy at a restaurant as his dad froze. Once the candy was out I was hugging and talking to him and he threw up all over me - down my shirt, in my hair, etc. I cleaned up in the bathroom as best I could but had to ride home in just my (vomit soaked) bra and undies. It’s not so bad to clean up your own kids vomit compared to a complete stranger’s, but I was very grateful we were able to help the kid.
I’m on the board of my local library, which is a commitment of like six hours a year. My schedule and mental load is filled with work and kid stuff but someday I would like to volunteer at an art museum or gardening club.
