I sanded it, primed, painted it white and sanded it to make it a bit distressed. I wanted to antique it, so I rubbed on some wood stain and wiped it off, but it is not the look I am going for. It gives the whole piece a dirty, brown wash. I just wanted some brown on the edges, in the corners, and for the rest to stay white.
What do I use? Watered down brown paint? Don't say dark wax because I don't want to wax it - I want to be able to refinish it down the line or touch up and wax makes it almost impossible - you can't repaint I have been told.
Underneath the piece is a blonde wood, which is why just sanding it down is not giving me the look I want.
I am terrible about remembering to take birth control pills. we are pretty sure we are done having kids so I wanted a birth control that I could basically forget.
Anyone have one? I know there are horror stories and bad experiences with every birth control method. . . I've researched it and this seems to be the best option for me - just wondering how your experience was with getting it put in - is it painful? Do you cramp and bleed a lot afterward? How do you like it overall, etc?
What do you have that needs to be thrown away, but you just can't let go of?
I am NOT a clutter person, but I do still have my baby blanket and can't bring myself to throw it away. It's a plaid blanket that used to have silk binding around the edges. It's been re-sewn a dozen times, the blanket is threadbare and scratchy, its basically a rag. But I love it and it's sitting in our linen closet.
Our dryer has been leaving the clothes damp for a few weeks. It is a fancy digital set, so I switched over to using the timed dry rather than the sensor dry, and they were still sometimes damp. It was getting hot, so we knew it wasn't the heating element. I was having to dry everything twice.
Dh cleaned out the back and the vent hose really well and was at a loss for what else to do - he's handy but knows nothing about dryers. Then a few days ago it totally quit. It turned on, made a horrible noise and then all it would do when you pressed start was click.
The repair man was here for 2 minutes and pulled one of my kid's socks out of the blower fan. Apparently it was stuck in there, so the dryer kept overheating and shutting down before it finished it's cycle. He's also replacing a few minor parts that look a bit worn out while he's in there anyway and then my dryer is fixed!
I am so relieved! With 2 kids, a husband who changes his clothes every day (two outfits every day..work clothes and home clothes), and a daycare I do a ton of laundry. It was really frustrating to have to go down there and restart the dryer all the time and being without it for a few days, my laundry is already piling up!
I have discovered a love for chocolate tea. I love the chocolate rocket and mint chocolate roobios from David's tea - with a splash of milk and 1/2 tsp of sugar its like liquid dessert
Its things like my friend coming to visit and bringing donuts. My father in laws birthday cake, my mom taking me out for a fancy tea and ordering a plate of scones...and today is DHs birthday and I am making him angel food cake. Saturday is a big family brunch, Sunday is a big Easter dinner ....its hard right now with all these events and special occasions.
I was doing so good, and then last week was hard - I was sick, had a sick baby, was all stressed out and definitely ate to cope.
Now every day I say I will get back on track and every day I slack off..I am not binging but I am eating dessert every day, starting to snack in the evenings..and I put back on 3 pounds as a result.
Argh. I can't seem to get back in gear but I know I need to.
Just got back - they sent me for an xray of her chest to rule out a chest infection. No chest infection, and her oxygen levels are excellent. They diagnosed us with a virus, and sent us home with saline spray and told us to keep using the humidifier and vicks. If she doesn't improve in 48 hours they will see her again, but since she has been sick for a while already the dr said she should improve soon, it is just taking her longer to get over this because she is so tiny. Thank goodness! I was just getting worried it was more than a cold since it had been soooo long but I guess her little body needs longer to fight it than the rest of us.
Was that when she was first born? A friend said that if they are delivered fast, they can be congested because during pushing apparently they clear out their lungs, but if you only push for a few minutes it doesn't have time to clear out. And it can take weeks for them to do it themselves afterward.
No idea if that is true or not, but I only pushed for 10 minutes so maybe?
10 days is standard here - I live in Canada. It takes longer to see your doctor here, and my doctor is amazing and so she has a full load of patients too...if I went to a different doctor I could probably be seen sooner but generally I like to wait and see her. If it's super important, I can get in the same day to a different doctor - I just called this morning for an appointment for DD and they got me in later this morning.
She is still sick, but if it's just I cold I am not too worried. I just want to rule out that its allergies or something more than a cold since it has been hanging on for a long time now and she was a bit "snotty" before that too.
Yup we use a humidifier in our room at night, and have her sleeping elevated.
My DD is 5 weeks old. From about 10 days old she was a bit congested but we thought it was her clearing out things from being born.
Then our entire family got colds, and the baby seemed to get it too. But we are all on the mend, and she is still super congested. We suction out her nose a lot, and we have her sleepining inclined but still I am up most of the night with her because she is having trouble breathing and needs to be upright. Her nose is running clear, but so were ours when we were all sick.
We have a doctor appointment today but I can't see my good doctor for another 10 days so we are seeing a doctor today that is a useless twat, and I doubt we will get any answers or help.
How do you tell a cold apart from allergies??? I am still congested but definitely getting better so I know it COULD still be a cold that she has. But she was occasionally congested before this too...and we do have a cat.
I am making up a cleaning schedule, here's hoping I stick to it.
I have all the weekly tasks figured out, but I wanted to make a list of things that need to be done less often, and on a certain day of the week I can pick one of those tasks to do. Things that need to be done monthly or even less than that....
Like, scrubbing out the fridge. Cleaning the oven Washing windows Washing walls and baseboards (even just spotwashing)
Also, thank you Emo for taking this over when I turned into a big slacker. You rock! I am trying to get back into doing these - I didn't do anything for Feb. but hopefully getting a project done this month will get me back into gear to do some every month.
We took this dresser that my grandparents bought for my mom's nursery when she was born, and repainted it for my 3 year old's room. It's in rough shape but this gave it new life and it's special because it was her grandma's.
Do you remember when I was asking about white sheets a while back??? I bought some after everyone assured me that bleaching them wouldn't ruin the fabric and they would be nice and bright as long as I added bleach to my wash.
Well, they are not white anymore. It's gross. I wash them every week, on my "whites" cycle in my fancy digital machine and i add soap and about 1/4 to 1/2 a cup of bleach every time. They look so nasty I need to replace them already. I am bummed.
Any tips or suggestions? I can't hang them on a line and let the sun bleach them because it's too cold 9 months out of the year. I guess its' back to colored sheets we go. I loved the look of white though!
I just dont understand why there are so many WAY better blogs out there that just don't get the recognition that YHL does. I guess it's because they are marketing geniuses, good for them. But they are famous for good marketing, not good content in my opinion.
Sarah does a 10 part little webisode series on how she renovated a house using only things from a big box store - lowes/hd. She gives some really good tips.
My favorite is a Surfboard martini, but it's not technically a martini
It's an ounce of Malibu rum, an ounce of creme de banana (banana bols), and an ounce of blue curaco. Top off the glass with pineapple juice. It's a pretty sea green color and tastes like tropical heaven!
