When my grandpa was alive, he’d buy scratch-off tickets for himself and my grandma to scratch off virtually every day. I really don’t see this as a big deal. I would do nothing with this info.
I have been in such a reading slump. I normally read at least 5 books a month (sometimes double that) and have not read a book since mid-January. I did get sick and didn't feel like reading and then after that, I've DNFd a bunch.
I just downloaded Don't Forget Me by Rea Frey and hope that one holds my interest.
Oh, this is the one I"m reading! I like it. I'm also having a hard time reading-wise but this one is keeping me interested (even if I only read a few pages a night, lol).

It’s sunny but blustery today. Went and voted early, ordered some prescription sunglasses (decided I need to have some after not being able to wear contacts for a week+ due to an infected ulcer on my cornea - 0/10 do not recommend that by the way), walked around my favorite nursery that just opened for the year and had lunch at a brewery.
Now I’m hoping to book lodgings for our summer trip to CO. Doing Breck, Aspen/Snowmass and Crested Butte.
I do dislike waking up when it's dark (and having it be dark for awhile after that), but also really love the later daylight. I don't do much before work besides shower, eat breakfast, get ready, so I much prefer having more light after work when I can go sit outside and read, work in the yard, take my dog for a walk, etc. All winter, I just go plop on the couch after work because it's dark so early.
I really love May/June when we get daylight before 6 AM and it's still light out super late at night.
At my old teaching job, I had the principal's daughter in class one year. He didn't agree with a grade she received on an essay (supported by a very detailed rubric) and she cited NOTHING in her essay, so she also was deducted for improper citations/plagiarism, because it is plagiarism when you don't cite sources even if it's inadvertent or not purposely cheating, which the students were well aware of as we spent so much time on it in class and they also turned in drafts, etc. where i marked this.
He demanded to know why this was considered plagiarism (via email), so I replied very respectfully as I would to any parent and explained it.
Well after that he absolutely blew me up via email. He kept spamming me with angry emails as I was teaching during the day, called me condescending (), said I wasn't a good teacher, blah blah blah. I ended up pulling in the assistant principal and basically saying I was not comfortable dealing with the principal alone as it related to being the parent of a student. This wasn't the only occasion where he did this, either.
He ended up being asked by the board to leave before his contract was up and being escorted out of the building by security a few months later.
Ugh I developed a scratch on my cornea last night. I’ve had one a couple years ago and it was miserable then. I have dry eyes and probably have not been keeping them lubricated enough and leaving my contacts in too long. I could have gone my whole life without having to suffer through this again.
My eye doc offices are closed until Monday. I called another one open on Sat desperate to be seen so I could get the medicated drops I got last time. Luckily after knowing I have a history of this and hearing my symptoms, they were willing to just call in the script and I can follow-up with my doc on Monday.
So I’m wallowing in my misery at the moment. I love sunshine but the light sensitivity is killing me. I could draw the blinds but I like seeing the sun. Not sure what we’ll do today. It’s time like these I wish I had prescription sunglasses. I think I’m going to get some when this is over.
My first crushes were probably in elementary or middle school and LOL no, definitely none of them worked out and I honestly have no idea what those people are doing nowadays.
However I did develop a big crush on a guy I worked with at my very first job at 16 at a mini-putt place. A few years later when in college, we started dating and now we are married! That's how I met my H. I have known him since 2002.
Sometimes. If I’m going to be in the car for awhile, I’ll listen to playlists through my phone. But if I’m running quick errands or something, I’ll just turn on the radio.

Love Chicago! Grew up near there and have been countless times. I agree that Sept would be a lovely time to go.
Lots of great food - we enjoyed our dinner at Girl and the Goat as well as Frontera Grill. The art museum is cool if that interests you, and I also really enjoyed the Museum of Science and Industry.
On a nice day, I like just walking along the lakeshore and people watching. I’ve heard awesome things about the architectural boat tours though I haven’t done one yet.

It feels so much like spring today. 60s and sunny today, 70s tomorrow and Tues but also severe storms. We’re cleaning out the garage today, doing some yard work, and taking a walk. I’m opening up some windows to air out the house.
I passed out on the couch at like 9 last night and slept soundly until 12:30 when H woke me up to come up to bed. Well then I was WIDE AWAKE and could not go back to sleep for 3 hours. I told him next time, just let me keep sleeping on the couch lol. I finally went back to sleep and slept way late for me, until 8:30 and now feel all out of sorts.
We are going to the Home Show today, and I feel boring and old because I'm excited about it. I love going to this every year. We always end up hiring/calling a company we didn't even think we needed to do something after. This year, we're looking for a tree trimmer.

I sometimes have issues with it stopping a story in the middle and then restarting it but audio only and it freezes. What I’ve found that fixes that issue for me is turning my WiFi off on my phone and then turning it back on.

I binged the six episodes of Love Is Blind that is out now.
Definitely some yucky comments from the guys. Like Clay when he said, "If you ever get out of shape, I'm telling you to get to the fucking gym" or "After you get pregnant, we'll go to the gym every day."
Also I already forgot the name of the guy Chelsea is with but his comments on AD's body and his obvious flirting with her.
Not a fan of many of the guys, as is often the case.
I forgot it was Valentine’s until a coworker made a comment on chat this morning lol. We don’t do anything to celebrate. We used to go out to dinner but everything here is so crowded and slow. I think H is going to pick up a couple candy apples from Rocky Mountain as a treat tonight and I’m looking forward to that.

I probably don't have a good answer because what we do is sit in chairs right by the pool (it's the one area that is shaded and I need shade), throw a towel over our bag and we can see it from where we are floating around in the pool. I guess someone could snatch it and take off running, but at least we'd see who it was who took it? LOL
The pool we frequent does have lockers for a nominal fee so that would be my other option.

I’m getting my hair done now. We may check out a new bar/restaurant place for lunch. I’m also thinking of driving about 30 min to my favorite coffee shop in a nearby town. They bring their truck to the farmers markets every Sat in the summer and I really miss getting an iced latte from Them. They have the best coffee drinks.
For the U.S. version, I do like that this season is all reality stars vs. season 1 that had half celebs and half regular people. I just felt like it was a bit odd doing it that way.
I moved here for college and then ended up getting a job in the area after graduation. A year later, H (then boyfriend) moved to be here with me and we've stayed ever since.
I had been super involved with the local Democrats chapter and served as a precinct committee person. But H and I didn't agree with the way some things were happening and being run by certain individuals so we stepped down from that a couple years ago. Now I just volunteer with campaigns directly that I support if I want to phone bank or canvass, etc.
Otherwise, I am honestly not much of a club person. I am very introverted and don't like to schedule a lot of my free time or have obligations of places I have to be. I tend to volunteer for one-off events when I feel pulled to do so.
Trying to get back out in the land of the living after being sick for 11 days. Still not 100%( have an annoying cough hanging on and some head congestion) but feeling better than I was.
We’re picking up an ottoman we ordered last month, taking a short walk outside since it’s actually sunny and somewhat mild, and then going out for lunch.
My team goes in one day a week, every Tuesday. I am OK with it, but would love to be full-time remote. At least we do plan a bunch of in-person meetings on those days (though we do have some permanently remote people and on any given week, usually at least one person is sick or has a sick family member to care for or has a contractor coming over or etc. etc. and is therefore remote) so even in-person meetings have someone on Teams.
I absolutely love WFH. It has been such a huge improvement in my life. I like wearing comfortable clothes and sitting in a chair that is comfortable for me. I like being able to be home with my elderly dog. I like not being "on" all day around co-workers, especially when a big portion of my job is independent work and I'm just working in PPT or spreadsheets on my own. I hope I never have to go back to a job that is on-site five days a week. I don't think I could or would want to do it. I hope my team never has to go in more than one day a week as is.
I ended up only reading two books in January. I had a couple DNFs and got in a bit of a slump, then got really sick and felt like just laying around watching TV.
My favorite book (out of the two I read) was First Lie Wins. I really enjoyed it.
I am going to dive into another book this weekend - just downloaded today as one of the February First Reads on Amazon. A Friend in the Dark by Samantha M. Bailey. It sounds intriguing.
I would drive, but I am not a fan of flying and wouldn’t personally even consider it unless the drive was like 6+ hours. We just had a two-day quarterly planning meeting at work and everyone within a 4-hour or so radius drove. Those further afield flew. Not saying you have to drive but just sharing what my company does.

Former (HS) teacher. We sometimes viewed videos or read books that had cuss words in them. Depending on the grade level it was, I would sometimes give parents a heads up. Sometimes (if I was teaching seniors especially in a college-level class), I would not.
I do think the teacher should have given a heads up especially because this is middle school. I don't love her response to you.
But to address a couple of the other comments here: In general I don't think it's bad to assign something that has some select swear words. Yes, there are probably readings or other materials that cover those concepts without swearing. But in a day and age of "engaging" kids in the classroom and trying to make it relatable and interesting for them, I might opt for an engaging and interesting podcast with 3-4 swear words rather than an article only that would be less engaging. Of course I would take into account the age (obviously would have a different decision if it was 1st graders) and if it was saying "fuck" like every sentence, I would opt out of it. But let's say it was 3-4 swear words over a 45 min podcast that was otherwise really engaging and had great info? I would, WITH a heads up to parents.
I also don't personally find it hypocritical to read or view something for class with swear words but not allow kids to say them in the classroom. Different situations entirely and I would and have had that conversation with kids. "We are going to listen to a podcast that has a couple swear words in it. These podcasters are adults who are making a podcast and can say what they want; I find a lot of value in the content, so we are going to listen anyhow; however, that doesn't mean that as a student in a classroom it is OK to use this language. It is not." The same goes for reading. I mean, Shakespeare's plays are full of sexual jokes, puns, and innuendos, yet I would not allow students to start making sexual jokes in my classroom. I guess I don't see studying one as allowing the other?
