I would never pay for major surgery or like cancer treatments for my dog, or any future dog. I'm talking things that cost into the multi thousands.
My ILs dog got sick and my MIL wanted to give her a blood transfusion (they don't do them for dogs she found out) because the dog lost a lot of blood. All I could think is it is a dog, and they had no insurance.
I have a feeling huge animal lovers will tell me I shouldn't get a dog if I'm not willing to do those things.
I hate when people take family photos with their dogs. Mainly because I couldn't do that with my cats. I also think you are dumb if you compare the hardships of taking care of your dog to the work it takes to take care of a baby. They are not, and will not, ever be the same.
I think nails should only be painted in nude/orange/red/pink/purple tones. Green, blue, yellow, etc, does not belong on your nails.
BUT THEY'RE CUTE AND PRECIOUS
Also my toenails are blue but they're chipped (pedi Sunday!!) so I won't pip them.
I know I've mentioned this before, but at the gyno I use my credit card to pay the co-pay and there's a tip line on it. What's the going rate for that?
OK, my husband works in the credit card processing industry and I had to ask him about this. I am c&p the email exchange because I am laughing so hard:
VS: How would a gynecologist’s office get a tip line on their cc receipts for patients? (lol, long story)
MrVS: Is this a joke? Who leaves a tip when they visit the gyno? Is this a new trend?
VS: No! I mean, would they have had to specifically request it? Or could it be like a second hand machine that had it built in? It is so weird, I am trying to figure out if there is any way it could be an accident.
MrVS: They would have had to specifically request tip line when they got set up initially. No accident. Tip Line at a medical office is far from the norm and a little weird. Not possible with second hand machine as the old programming would be erased.
The fact that they purposefully added the tip line makes this SO much more funny!!!!!
Hmmm spaghetticat does your gyno offer any services like laser hair removal or stuff like that? My old gyno used to so I wonder if they think people want to tip on those services??

But the pets are their "children". I feel like our dogs are getting ripped off now that we have M. They don't get anywhere near as much attention and I feel bad. I sent out Christmas cards w/my dogs pictures on them, not us though, just the dogs.
Yeah, that bugs me. Lol. Not the card with just your dogs, for some reason thats funny to me cause its just your dogs. Its the whole, 'This is my Husband, and our baby who is a dog' thing that bugs me. Its your dog, not your baby. You may love your dog very much and they are a part of your family, but they are not your baby. Your real baby is your baby, and thats why your dog is no longer getting attention anymore. Its sad, its happened with my cats. But, its true.
I am probably not making sense anymore. Those pics just bug me. I want to see a rabbit.
Some people never have a human baby.
I can honestly say, and flame me if you wish, that before I had Violet I thought I loved my dog Ziggy as much as I could ever love any child. I was obsessed with him.
I then had a child and now I do realize a difference but some people never have children. To THEM it is the same as a "real" baby.
Dogs are awesome. I love my dog. Ozzy IS a part of our family. I love my dog more than I like a lot of people. Dogs are awesome. Also he is super beautiful and any picture with him in it is instantly 500% better. Dogs are awesome. the end.

This is how I feel. Even when we have had problems between Zoe and Sarah, we've never considered taking Sarah to the pound. She'd go live with my MIL, or, when he moves out, BD until Zoe's older and less annoying to Sarah.

Beat me to it, Trudy. I was actually told I'd never have a baby. My dogs were my children because I couldn't have any. They were (and are) spoiled and treated as close to human beings as they could be. I know it's Debbie downer, and no, a dog isn't a child, but sometimes it is as close as some people will ever get. It's cruel to judge their affections, IMO.

I read an article recently, maybe someone linked it on here. It was thinks parents should never say, one of them was about other peoples pets not being like children. It can be insensitive.
I love seeing pictures of pets, but people can get annoying about their dogs (or other pets), like this lady I used to work with, she got mad at another coworker when he made a joke about her dog being overweight. She never forgave him, and it was a joke! I have always thought this, pre kid and all.
I did roll my eyes at a thread yesterday (on ML)the thread was titled blah blah blah my daughter, and it was about a dog. I assume it was tongue in cheek though.
My love for Joanna and my love for Bailey are different, but Bailey is no less important to me now that I have Joanna. I wish he weren't such a scared old man so he could be in more family pics with us!
I don't feel the same about my cats. Emma used to be my baby, and I still love her, but she is definitely a pet instead of a kid now.

lol, that was elle, right? I didn't read it, I'm sure eye rolling (or better yet, a verbal challenge!) was the exact reaction she intended.
When we are out and about we are forever getting stopped for people to say hi to ozzy, to pet him, to take photos with him. Matilda may as well not exist! Sometimes people give her a "pity" compliment like oh she's/its cute too in a vague afterthought way. lol
I'm just putting this out there, my dogs have a Facebook.
And we update it.
Can your dog be friends with my dead dog?
Yes, my dead dog has a dogbook. I couldn't give it up after he died. He WAS my baby.
I also agree, can't judge people's affections for animals, especially those that don't have children. Some if not most are that way with animals because of infertility. I, too, was told I would never have children and I poured the love I had into my previous pup, Benji. I still have two pictures of him on my desk at work. Joey is a dog, but Benji, oh Benji was my first baby.
And add me to the spent thousands of dollars on my dog...who died 5 months later... Money well spent!
I guess some people could lie and say they only made $50 instead of $200 but you wouldn't stay hired if you made a quarter of what everyone else made.
And yes, my employer submitted it as my income.
I didn't know some places did that. Back in my waitressing days, I thought the tax was taken based on an approximation of expected income. So basically my whole check of my $2 an hour. My employer didn't ask how much we made, and goodness knows by the time I did my taxes I had no clue how much I had made to report. (Shhhh don't tell uncle sam!)
I like to get the girls riled up the dogs. One of them is very much "my dogs are my siblings", she call them her baby brothers. They other one is always saying no they are just dog and not humans. They are twins and both gifted and both make great logical arguments. It is so neat to see how their minds work.

YES!! The same thing happens to us all.the.time. We have an all black (which is rare), big German Shepherd with big ears, and we get stopped...no joke...EVERY time we are out with him. People always comment how gorgeous and awesome he is, and then they are like (and this is a word for word once), "Oh yeah, I'm sure the baby is cute too!"
I have no idea what you guys are talking about when you mention people making 2-3 dollars per hour not including tips. Everyone here makes min. wage, then gets tips on top of that. Min. wage is 8.25 or 8.50 here.
My UO's are:
I hate when people take family photos with their dogs. Mainly because I couldn't do that with my cats. I also think you are dumb if you compare the hardships of taking care of your dog to the work it takes to take care of a baby. They are not, and will not, ever be the same.
I think nails should only be painted in nude/orange/red/pink/purple tones. Green, blue, yellow, etc, does not belong on your nails.
I think everyone should only be allowed to post up to 3 facebook statuses per week. No one has that many important or interesting things to say. No one is an exception.
I think I'm going to have to disagree with everything you wrote.
As a server, I made half of minimum wage, so my hourly wage was $2.13. I think that's still pretty common.
I've dog sat a few times since having Carter, and I think dogs are just as much work, if not more. I had to walk them 3+ times a day, constantly vacuum up hair, and brush and bathe them frequently to combat said hair. If I needed to pop into a store, I'd have to find a safe-looking place to tie the dog and freak about someone taking him, whereas I can bring my kid in wherever. If I'm feeling lazy, I can have a down day at home with the kid, which I can't with a dog, unless I want piss on the floor. So much work!
I like colorful toes. French pedicures are gross, though.
-Hate distressed jeans too. Especially expensive ones.
-Love the offbeat nail colors. I did coral last month and am planning blue this month. What do you guys think of the style that is really popular right now where one nail is randomly a different color than the rest? I can't get behind that.
-3 years ago, we spent $4000 to save my cat's life. We were in grad school and poor and had to put it on the credit card. The cat was only a year old though and we just couldn't bear to let her die! She was my baby... Now that I have a real baby though, I don't think I'd be willing to ever spend that much on an animal again.

I love both. My love for each one is different, but unable to be compared. Having a child made Puck no less a member of the family. A family pic is H, me, Tyler and Puck. That is my family. I cry thinking about a time that Puck might no longer be with us.

I wasnt meaning people who are infertile or cant have children. I would never say their pet is not like a child to them, because it is their child... but I still dont think its the same as having a human baby. I dont know if I was explaining myself correctly, I just think the pictures are cheesy. I am not trying to underestimate the love one feels for their pet.
Have you not SEEN my handsome beast? He is magnificent to behold.
I love pictures with dogs in them! Otherwise it's just more people, blah whatever, I see more people every day than I care to already. But I never see enough dogs because there's no such thing.

I'm not bashing you, don't worry! It's just that you don't always know. Lots of people aren't forthcoming about their infertility struggles, so it's not always apparent.
It's not the same as a human baby, but I guess that all relative. Having a human baby isn't the same as having a hippo, but they're hard to take care of too, lol. It's just difference of opinion I guess, and that's okay.
