I have to point out that open carry is legal in Ohio and you don't need any sort of license to do it.
So if this officer really though he was 20 and had a real weapon--that isn't inherently illegal. You sure as shit need to give someone more than two seconds to respond when all you suspect them of doing IS FUCKING LEGAL.
Does it matter if you reach for your gun if you have an open carry law of not?
Also, there tons of open carry/police videos on youtube and (though I haven't them all), and the people posting them aren't injured or dead at the end of the video. I wonder what one of the differences between this kid and those adults are (generally and besides age).

Now, this IS the most ignorant statement I've ever seen. If you reach for you gun when an officer has told you to out your hands up, you will get shot. No question. Should I make a PSA?

You are a flaming asshole. Seriously, go away. The law enforcement profession is not enriched because you are a part of it.
Haha! You can't even form a decent response because you know it is the truth! Until you all are fighting the crazy shit we do every single f*****g day, keep your uninformed, dumbass opinions to yourself. I've had a weapon pulled in me numerous times. How about you? Yeah, until you are dealing with that possibility every day, you STFU.
Did you really just say that to @stopstaring? REALLY??!! And this particular time of all times.
Fuck you and *your* uninformed ass to hell and back. Take your shitstirring elsewhere. You're not welcome here.

Huh? Chillax and read. I was trying to make a point that open carry doesn't matter if you reach for a gun.

Come back when your trolling is interesting and not so predictable.

How fast can you say "hold you hands up?" and wait for a fucking response? 2 seconds? Seriously fuck you! I am scared you are a cop!

Seriously. It takes more time to say, "let me see your hands" than it did to kill that child.
The reason I liked that post is because I agree that the child's actions were unpredictable, especially since the 911 call was messed up as well.
I also think, based on all of the posts this week, this board is biased against anything law enforcement and/or gun related.
Yeah stopstarimg pennypenny and ttt are totally anti leo. Absolutely. Let's hear more about that.
SeRiously though did yoy see the same video I did? That kid didn't have time to HAVE an "action". They literally came blazing up next to him, leapt out of the car, And shot him. Bam. Just like that.
Wow. That was fast. It does look like he reaches for the gun, but I agree with everyone else that the cops pulled up too close to assess what the fuck was going on. If they had observed him for even thirty seconds, they would have seen he was just hanging in the park, minding his own business, acting like a twelve year old boy. The cops put themselves in a situation where nearly ANY move the boy made could have been perceived as threatening. If he went to put his hands up, they might have thought he was charging them with a demonic look and animal-like grunts.
I will say, though, that the cop at the back of the car (the one who shot him?) looks VERY disturbed. He is bent over, clutching his middle, putting his head on the car, and otherwise acting in an "oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck" manner.
I was the first reply in this thread I think with my questions:
"Where are all those bystanders we heard about that needed protecting? I don't see anyone.
Now, I'm asking this not as condemnation but for clarification-- do they need to pull up directly to the suspect like that? in that close range? The kid kind of looks like he's tooling around, loitering, like kids do. Would they have assessed the risk / body language and stuff before moving in? And is it protocol to just go straight up to an "armed suspect" like they did?"
I am quoting MrsA only because her point says matches my questions pretty much exactly.
I will get you a poem later. I have to find that happyplace again because this ugliness came in here and ruined my muse.

That it appeared as if he was reaching for a gun.
Fine, since it needs to be spelled out. Many of the open carry videos are full of white guys being confronted by the police because of suspicious activity. So of course they stop the guys, who are typically a smartass and record the police (because page views, duh). Granted suspicious activity is not the same as pointing a gun at someone, but I would think that the cops could have judged the situation as they drove up, especially since he was sitting at a picnic table doing nothing moments before they showed up. But because the big scary 20 year old 12 year old was very dangerous sitting at a picnic table. Yet none of the cops in those videos drove up onto sidewalks and over grass to get to the guy with the gun.
FTR, I don't hate cops. And if he was pointing the toy at people then he shouldn't have. But that doesn't deserve death. Worst case scenario in that case should have been the shit scared out of him by a cop who lectures him about his actions.
Sorry, it's a memo from the Cleveland PD explaining that the Ohio Supreme Court told them they can't ban open carry within the city limits.
Right. So basically you can have a gun anywhere all the time. That doesn't stop the city from putting up No Firearms signs all over the place though. In real-life they don't want guns in city hall...but I think *technically* it's legal.
SO. I'm sure Cudell Rec Center has signs up everywhere that say No Firearms. But I bet a gazillion dollars no one really thought about that dumbass law in the 2 second approach to the scary guy with a gun.

And cops are supposed to be trained to assess a situation. The video clearly shows that whatever assessment they did primarily happened before they were on the scene. Two seconds is not long enough for an alleged suspect to listen, comprehend and comply with commands. There really is no other way to look at this particular situation. The officer(s) made a huge error in judgment which unfortunately resulted in a very unnecessary death of a child.
As for bias, I encourage you to read my post in the do you trust the police thread. Not everyone is against the police, though I certainly am against the actions of specific officers and police departments (that does not extend to every officer in the department , only those making the poor decisions).

Tillie. You don't have any questions about the officer's actions after watching that video? None? You feel that was a justified shooting and that we are all just anti-LEO?
Even after my posts in here, tillie? I collected all my comments re: this case (from the previous post on it) in here, and you can see I'm not being anti LEO. I have been quite pro-LEO in my posts. I even said in the trust cops post that I trust my own town ones. Do you really believe that I am just hating on cops and that's why this video shocks me so much? Read my posts in here, man. And some of the people in here horrified originally defended that cop but feel the video is a game-changer.
Is it so much easier to believe that we are just dumb and/or prejudiced?

This exact thing happened in Cleveland this August. The kid wrote a letter apologizing to the cops.

No private entities are allowed to ban weapons.
From the city's website it looks like it is owned by the city. Unless I'm reading that wrong? Listing it under the department of parks and recreation means it's not a private entity, right?

Sorry, it's not private. I should have clarified. It's a city Rec center.

I know that I'm repeating what I've already said, & I'm sorry for that. Nonetheless, there's a tiny part of me that is grateful for these ignorant comments, as I see that as what the ppl in my society are thinking. Not excusing At All, but it does give me a piece of her (Clearly Wrong!!) thought process to chew & absorb. That I'm living among people who think this way, makes me want to scream. (Obvs) But I also ask myself how I can improve this obvious dissonance
