Curious though what people think the steps should have been....beyond this not happening in the first place, should they have called the police immediately?
I think most normal and rational people would a) immediately remove the offender from the victims, b) report the offender and try to get every available resource to help (and I mean this for a teen/child offender, not a 32 year old man) and immediate counseling, and c) get the victims immediate help and counseling.
I keep trying to put myself in this situation and I really can't say for sure what I'd do if my son confessed to touching his younger brother. I imagine we'd take steps to separate them like having one of them live with my ILs. Willingly reporting my own child to the police... It would be the hardest thing and I honestly can't say whether I'd do the right thing or bury my head in the sand and assume that separating them would make the problem go away. Which sadly is why I assume this problem is so common.
That's what I mean. I cannot STAND the way she looks at him. Looks at him for what to say...and looks at him all sappy and it makes me want to vomit.
There used to be a commercial for one of the dating sites, I don't remember which, where the husband and wife are sitting on the couch and the husband is speaking;the wife is looking at him with that same expression, it used to creep the hell out of me.
This is what I don't get. If Michelle is saying that the girls have been victimized more from the media than the rapes, that's one thing. I can certainly see this traumatizing them too. But then why are Jill and Jessa going to Fox News themselves to share their story? If they are that traumatized, they shouldn't be doing interviews with a news station themselves.
It's possible that they want to take control over their own story rather than have the story told for them.
It's equally possible that they are under family pressure to say all is forgiven/forgotten.
As much as I enjoy the downfall of Josh and Jim Bob, I am very uncomfortable with the fact that releasing Josh's records identified them as the victims. It should have been their choice whether or not to ever identify as victims or speak publicly about their abuse, and that choice, like so many others in their lives, was taken away from them.
No one identified the victims until Jim Bob and Michelle dragged their daughters on television and confirmed they were two of his victims.

I get what you are saying. I would be terrified of a kid being labeled a sex offender for life. But if you bring them to counseling, the counsellors are mandated reporters and are going to notify the police.
Get a lawyer for the kid committing the abuse before notifying authorities and hope for the best.
To be fair, a lot of people don't think Mormons are Christians. Though I'm sure for vastly different reasons.
There are many Christians who don't even think Catholics are Christian, which to me implies quite a poor understanding of history. (Sorry for the digression)
The Seewalds (Jessa's in-laws) hate Catholics. Jessa's husband posts crap about Catholics not being real Christians all the time. The entire basis of their religion (and cutting themselves off from society, and establishing home churches) is that NO ONE else is as Christian as they are.

Before i ask this, i am not defending any of the Dugger behavior. This whole thing is just sad and wrong and there are so many layers to my exasperation with these people in this bullshit.
But if you take a minor to a counselor saying my kid has been fondling his sisters...we know this is wrong and want to help him, the counselor has to call the police? What are the police required to do at that point? I would be so scared a labeling my kid as a sex offender for life or giving him (or her) the idea that if you tell mom and dad things or a counselor they call the police. What could a lawyer do in this scenario?
Again i realize this is not a normal family scenario but the idea this happens often keeps coming up and i am not sure what is supposed to happen verus the cover ups and lies that happened here.
And i still want to know what TLC knew and when they knew it.

It was very obvious from the police report that his sisters were the victims. Technically we did not know which ones they were, but he only had 5 sisters at the time, and we knew that 4 of them were part of the report. I can't find the report right now, but if I'm remembering right it read something like "Victim 1 (name redacted) who lives at home with parents Jim Bob and Michelle at (Dugger Address)"
I'm not saying that the Duggers aren't assholes. I'm just saying that it was pretty clear that his sisters were involved before the Duggers made a statement.

No a mandated reporter such as a licensed therapist would call the child abuse hotline. CPS would determine if police should be involved if they find a crime was committed.

All counselors are mandatory reporters. They don't call the police, they call CPS, who then decides whether to involve the authorities. I don't know what the police would do. And the label of sex offender for a juvenile is very different than an adult (at least in my state). What is supposed to happen? You're supposed to report it to authorities and take care of your other kids.

I also heard in the interview they said the 5th was a babysitter.

Well yeah, we know 1 was a babysitter and 4 were his sisters. But no one knows the identity of the babysitter. Could have been a lot of people - probably someone who was never on the show.
They say it shouldn't have been because everyone was a minor.
Is there absolutely any legal basis for that? They redacted names, right? Although I suppose you can easily guess who was involved because there were almost as many victims in the Duggar residence as there were Duggar daughters.
Hmm. I'm just catching up on this but I wonder if the records were able to be legally released (redacted, I mean) because he's actually not officially an offender, is he? He wasn't prosecuted and convicted of any crime. So there's not an actual juvie criminal record to be sealed in the first place? Just thinking out loud here.
I watched the follow up interview tonight with Jessa and Jill and they basically just repeated what their parents said but brought up the parent company of In Touch magazine being producers of porn? And that the agenda was to exploit women
I can't believe the girls acted like it was no big deal since "they had no idea Josh touched them". Everything the girls said was clearly what their parents told them.

I hate how brain washed they are. Not only are they having to deal with feeling they don't dare express, they are being victimized by everyone in their lives telling them to sweep it under the rug.

I saw snippets. If you're a teenager curious about girls you don't touch 5 year olds!

What makes me crazy cakes is how this fits in with their world view of men being completely helpless to stop their libidos. So, you know, if you're a boy and there is a girl -any girl- showing ankle you might just jump her.
His aberrant behavior proved to them that their cults teachings are correct.

Yeah, something like, "they're used to making objects out of women." Because their religion doesn't treat women like they're just walking, sinning uteruses who need to be kept under a man's thumb for their entire lives. Fuck off with that.
I did think that Jessa was pretty articulate which didn't surprise me as she is a very opinionated person. Not very emotional like Jill. But yeah, it was clear they were all coached by some kind of PR person before the interviews.
I don't generally read InTouch but I read an article today that said one girl was fondled as she sat on Josh's lap and another was in the laundry room when he put his hand under her dress. Now that doesn't at all fit into the over the clothes while they were asleep narrative.
Jill said in the interview something about how he was sneaky about it and would do stuff during the day and they weren't aware it crossed the line. I was thinking the same how it didn't match their story of not having a clue he did anything.
Today's Duggar updates from the gossip sites: Moving truck in front of Josh's house, they are moving back to Arkansas. He also hired Kate Gosslin's former body guard? And Derrick quit his job at Walmart Corporate, rumor is he and Jill are going to Nepal for mission work

I don't really follow so I don't know Jill's story, but escaping to Nepal seems like a brilliant idea, TBH. That might be what I'd do.
Although her her husband works at Walmart Corporate? Ew! How embarrassing!
