Yeah, my child has one working kidney that is prone to infection. I'd be pissed if I mentioned this to her teacher and was told to provide a doctor's note. That note would be wrapped around a rock and delivered through her windshield. Yes, I have anger management issues.

I'm so sorry this happened to him. It makes my heart hurt even more than it angers me. I hope he's moved on quickly so you can channel the rage. How fucking stupid.

I am angry on your behalf, and I want to give your son such a big hug. That poor baby. School should be a place where he feels safe, secure and cared for. What a horrible experience, please go straight to the superintendent in the morning and do not wait for the next meeting. Your action may be what keeps this from happening to another child.
I am close to tears reading this. Your poor son trying to be brave and take care of it all on his own. I would be absolutely livid. Livid isn't even the word to describe how mad I would be. I am not sure there are words to describe how mad I would be.
not ok, screw that shit. i would be going back and forth between raging and crying because my heart hurts for him. i hope you get some positive results, and soon.

I'm obviously reading this/commenting late, but this is so ridiculous and inhumane, it boggles the mind.
Like, the person/people who created this alleged policy - have they met any children before? Or, are THEY able to use the bathroom on command? Because I've had 30+ years of using the bathroom, and I'm not able to.

Your poor son. I would be livid too.
When I was in 2nd grade I had to pee but my teacher wouldn't let me go so I waited and asked again. This second time I asked he told me I should have gone during recess. I held it as long as I could but ended up peeing my pants.
These people teach children and it seems reasonable to only allow students to use the restroom three time? In a 6 hour day??? I can pee three times in one hour!
I almost have no words. I'd be beyond angry. Your poor son. I'm asking my first grader tomorrow what they do. I was JUST at the back to school night. If I had known about this, I would have asked.
I can't even understand how both the teacher and the principal deferred to this asinine policy. I don't think anyone with even just half a brain could argue this is at all justified. And they don't even clue the parents in to this fucked policy until something like this happens. No fucking way.
Absolutely take this to the parents - there is no way this would fly at my kids' school.
I would be flipping desks over. This is completely unacceptable and a STUPID policy.
Another point that maybe should be brought up - let's say there are 15 kids in your son's class and they all have to take "class trips" to the bathroom. For a 6 year old, the whole process can take about 5 minutes, right? So even if the teacher is sending kids in a few at a time, it's probably at least a 15 minute ordeal for the whole class to go. Three times a day - 45 minutes of valuable teaching time lost. BECAUSE OF A FUCKING RIDICULOUS, EVIL POLICY.
ETA: I taught 1st grade and my students raised a closed fist so I knew at a glance that they had to go. No disruption.
I am not defending the policy at all, but at the school where I work, the kindergarten class all takes a morning potty break and an afternoon one and it takes like 5 mins total. There are 18 kids in the class. I assume if a kid needs to use the bathroom outside that time, an assistant goes with him/her (it's downstairs).
Where I work the pre-k and K kids take forever to use the bathroom and there are 4 bathrooms! It's crazy how long it takes. They are allowed to go when they need to go though. We can always find someone to take them. The bathrooms are not near their classroom. We never make them wait.
I am so sorry your son had to go through that. I would be furious if that was my child.
I'd love to know what the district policy says in writing, because I seriously doubt a school board sat down and cared enough to set it in the rules that children could only pee 3 times a day. More likely there is a rule that says children cannot be unaccompanied in the halls, and the school has interpreted that to mean kids must all go to the bathroom together. Unfortunately, it' still pretty common practice to expect kids to go on command and be able to hold it until then.
You have managed to get Joenali to take a pro-parent stance. That's how bullshit that policy is.
OMG! I was just thinking this. Ha!
Omg! So funny!
You know a lot of parents can be entitled assholes and I get sick of it. This situation is not entitlement in the least. This is a ridiculous policy that messes with the health of children and it needs to go.
Have these people never pooped before? This does not happen on command. What the ever living fuck? I cannot even fathom how this has never presented itself as apology until now. There is just no fucking way this works all the time. I hate these assholes. Burn it down. Well not the school bc, kids, but these peoples offices.

Poor boy, what a crazy policy!
DD's classrooms have always had a special "sign" if it's an emergency (like holding up a sign language R or something similar) and the teacher allows them to go. We have told her that if it is that much of an emergency, can't hold it and can't wait for the "ok you can go", just get up and go and we can address it later if the teacher gets upset (which she's done twice in 4 years and didn't upset the teacher).
I don't believe that is a district policy. I think she thought she'd tell you that and you'd roll over and play dead. Call her bluff and start calling people first thing in the morning.
Okay, so I called my good friend who also has a first grader in the same school. She is a Pediatric psychologist (I can't remember her exact title, but she works with children in a medical capacity). I am going to call the superintendent tomorrow, and she is going to come with me to the meeting as a parent of a child in the same school/grade and also as someone who deals with children in a medical capacity daily. I'll keep everyone updated. Can we go ahead and set up my GoFundMe for bail money? Just kidding
I would be fucking pissed beyond belief. Your poor kid. How traumatizing and embarrassing. I would be calling the principal and have a meeting with them and the teacher ASAP. that is pure bullshit
They will fold on this. I wouldn't be surprised if the "policy" is bs. My principal is super supportive and made it clear that he wouldn't support us in a situation like this as teachers.

Burn it down. I'd show up at the school first thing like a crazy ass. Yes I would. LOL at this ridiculous, fake bathroom "policy." OMG
And I would tell my child to ask to go to the nurse if necessary. What's she going to do, say there is a set time of day for the whole class to see the nurse?
