That he ran away from the house with a gun? Nowhere does it mention that the Guns taken were not in a safe. Obviously mentally unstable people around children with guns isn't the best, but the mere fact that they have guns doesn't make them bad parents.
It says "Tarek allegedly ran from his home with a firearm, only to drop the weapon when a helicopter spotted him. The reality star allegedly told officers he did not intend to do harm, but wanted to 'blow off some steam.'" You take that to mean he was running down the street with a gun in a safe? Interesting.

Obviously the gun that he has wasn't in the safe. The original person I quoted specifically mentioned that the fact that they had an AR was a reason to need sympathy for the kids. Which is why I asked why it mattered if it was in a safe

And yeah its sad when parents split but...they had an AR-15 in the home. So. My sympathy extends only as far to the kids. Not to the one or both adults in that household who were complicit in that nonsense.
If the weapon was in a locked gun safe, where the kids can't get it why does it matter what gun they had?
I loved their show.
Not to me. I freely judge anyone who feels the need to own the gun that appears in a google search for AR-15. Because I didn't know what that was, lol. But it looks unnecessary for any regular person to own.

It is. Same gun used in most of the mass shootings including Newtown. Not used for hunting or helpful in a self defense situation. I would love to hear how gun people justify them.

Yup. No one needs this type of gun. There is no practical use and no defense for its ownership. No civilian should have the ability to kill/wound dozens in mere minutes.
I judge people whom think they need this type of gun. Especially when kids are in the home. SaveSave
I do. I don't personally own an AR, however I do know people who do. Who take it to the shooting range. I just don't automatically think that makes someone a "bad person or parent" to each their own

But what's the point of having an AR-15? Really? If you keep it stored safely it's not like it could even be used in a protect yourself situation, which goes for any gun. I didn't say bad person or parent, but I definitely question the judgment of any gun owner.
I personally don't feel the need to own an AR personally. However if it's stored safely and only brought out when going to the gun range, I don't see the big deal, but the people I know who have ARs are ex military.
I've been in this thread whining about how much I like these people but, dude has been through a lot. Cancer, alleged pain killer issue, infertility and loss, and apparent mental illness. Having access to an assault weapon is, shall we say, not the best scenario here. I am of the school of thought that no one should ever have access to an assault weapon because, you know, life happens, and they generally are not a good thing to have around the house because bad decisions and accidents happen.
Which reminds me did anyone watch the Original Flip this house? The folks who sued A&E? You know that dude ended up leaving his wife for Ginger???
I always thought they were having an affair when I watched the show!
I realize we've moved on but I hadn't thought of this show in forever but I used to think the same thing! I was addicted to all those Flip this house series.
Their church is staunchly anti LGBT. The church believes in gay conversion therapy. HGTV released a statement that they do not discriminate. The only thing from Chip and Jo is a tweet from Chip that in times of trouble you'll find his family at church.
I was not expecting that. I thought it was going to be something house related.
Well I'm going off my limited interaction with her that I think she's very nice and sweet IRL (same gym though I haven't seen her more than a handful of times in recent months). How sad!
I'm still so confused by this. You are south county and I'm North. Why the hell is she going to a gym by you when she lives here? Lol! That's like a 45min drive for kickboxing? What? Do they have multiple houses? And yes, she's gorgeous. I agree with you there but she's not a nice person. She's actually a total snob and has a dismissive personality.
I feel bad for their kids honestly. There have been so many posts on my local FB page today that have been deleted by admin and reposted again and again.
Consensus. Our town dislikes them and there is some major hate for Tarek for that AR incident. Running down a street with that kind of gun is horrifying. So many kids around. People are PISSED.

But in this particular sitation the dude literally pulled out his AR-15 to "blow off steam"... That's not the best way to showcase his gun safety lol
I can't find anywhere in this story where is says what gun he used. So you're assuming
I'm not some crazy gun person , I don't think everyone should have ARs. However if you're keeping the gun stored safely in your home out of reach of children I don't see the issue.
In this situation he's obviously mentally unstable and the cops were right to take the guns, I never said they weren't. I was simply stating that you can own guns and store them safely and be a normal person and a good parent.

Running around the neighborhood with a gun is not safe and showcases poor judgement. I don't care how "safe" the gun is kept, this guy put other people at risk.
And yes, I own a gun. Nobody needs to own an assault rifle unless you work with one in the military/police force.

I just said that in this situation the cops were correct in taking his guns

But the point is that anyone can snap. He shouldn't have had that gun to begin with.

Huh. I'm not surprised but I am surprised. I figured them for churchy, but mason jar candles and guitars at service churchy. Not conversion therapy churchy. Maybe because they live in a college town?
But a very conservative, Baptist, racially/socioeconomicaly divided college town.

It's lines like this where gun people lose me. "Isn't the best"? No, it's not the best, it's a fucking recipe for tragedy and disaster. It is this kind of flippant attitude that gets people killed every single day.

Someone said up earlier that they endured infertility and a loss.. I don't think I've known this. What are the details there? How sad for them =(
And, why the hate that they hire people to do the construct and dirty work of flipping the house? They are real estate agents, not construction workers. I think they are smart and running a business by contracting out work. This is how it works, it doesn't make them fake. Also - yeah they aren't good actors, because they aren't actors. They are real people who submitted a video to HGTV about them flipping houses, that turned into a reality show.

I'm almost certain that they had to go through IVF (with their second) because he had undergone treatment for his cancer. I think their first round was a miscarriage.

Their kids also attend a charter school which had a group of white kids string a rope around a black child's neck earlier this year. The school has had multiple complaints about racial bullying, but came out saying this wasn't a big deal and had nothing to do with race. I'm paraphrasing, but that is the gist. Chip and Joanna rave about the school. That's all I need to know to know that they are shitty people.

No, no...the gun was for protect from snakes and mountain lions...
Says the article I read anyway. I'm not familiar with the area but are mountain lions common there?

I don't know exactly where they live, but mountain lions are a thing in some parts of OC. Areas in or near the mountains. More common are coyotes, though. We've got lots of nature and stuff here.

holy shit.
They hate the gays and are racist.
It sucks even more because she is one of the few multicultural women on HGTV (or let's be honest- TV anywhere). Lebanese/Korean, I think? Anyway.. I'm super bummed but won't shed a tear for the homophobic racists.
