I’m guessing you can change the tension on the pedals to make it easier to get out of the pedal. The tension shouldn’t be so loose that they can’t stay clipped. Find out do you can change the tension in the pedal.
You can change out the pedals on the Peloton (not saying you should have decided differently, just in case someone is taking this into consideration for buying a bike). My H already had spin shoes and wanted to use those but the idea of changing out the pedals for just his usage wasn’t appealing.
There were a few other things I preferred about Nordictrack too 🙂
I leave my shoes clipped in - way easier....plus, they're kind of loud to clip in and out and my DD sleeps in the room next to where we have our bike setup, so leaving them in is just better.
Ditto. The shoes were the hardest learning curve for me. I’m going to Soul Cycle for a fundraiser and am Sooo nervous about having to clip in. Lol.
In my experience, the shoes at Soul Cycle are easier to clip in/out than the Peloton shoes. I used to get stuck often and someone gave me the hint that when you clip out, you always have an easier side (generally the side of the hand you write with because it's slightly stronger and more agile). Unclip that side first, and exit to the still clipped side. So, if you can get your right foot out more easily, unclip it and exit to stand on the left side of the bike. With the added torque and different body position, unclipping the other foot becomes easier. Also, increasing resistance or holding the knob down helps too. Worse case, just leave your shoe and tell them it's stuck. I used to do it often and it happens all the time.

I love mine but was never an app rider. A lot of what I like is the variety of classes (not just spin) you can take.
Ditto this. I've had the bike for just over a year but only half of my 200+ workouts are cycling classes. I *love* to add a 10 mins Arms workout to the end of a 30 minute ride, and I always do a post-ride stretch. My DH does a ton of the yoga workouts and we've just started incorporating a 10 minute "relaxation" meditation when we are going to sleep. I have the app on my phone and turn it face-down so there's no light. Highly recommend.
Do Peloton instructors not do the traditional positions? Like I haven't heard anyone saying 3rd position vs 2nd, though I have only tried a few classes. I really like 3rd position climbs and 2nd-to-3rd-position jumps.. anyone have rides/instructors that do this? My free trial of the app is almost over and I'm on the fence.

Alex does it.
Unfortunately for me, I have no idea what it means and can’t figure out the difference by looking at him.

Do you like it? We just ordered one.
I love it! I have the s15i. Love being able to see the local scenery around the country and around the world. Nicole’s studio rides and trail rides are my favorite!
Is this strictly spin for the bike or is there outdoor type things, too? Like simulated mountain biking, for example.
I race mountain bikes and am not aware of any programs for simulated mountain biking where a bike moves around. For simulated road cycling, Zwift is the best thing out there. It's a program you use with a (real) road bike, a power trainer (Wahoo KICR, TACX, etc), and a phone/tablet/tv. You can join group rides, race, and such. It's meant for outdoor cyclists, it's not a "spin" program.
I recommend checking out this or just go by yourself a good pair of rollers and put a road or track bike on them.

This is one thing I do miss from a regular spin class.

Jenn Sherman generally uses that terminology. She usually calls 2nd standing or jogging but definitely refers to 3rd as 3rd.

Thanks! In traditional spin, 2nd position is standing jog -- your body is straight/upright, and when your core is fully engaged, you're really just using hands/fingers on the handles for a bit of balance, no load bearing. In 3rd, you bend at the hip, butt goes back to hover over the seat, and hands move out to the ends of the bars for support. It is *amazing* for quads/glutes.
I've been saying that I want to do my 500th in studio and now it looks like I'll be in NYC in May! Which is all well and good, but I only hit 300 the other day. I'm going to be in amazing shape by then lol!

I got a ProForm elliptical this week, which is compatible with iFit like Nordictrack is. I'm liking it a lot so far! So here's a little more detail about iFit as another alternative to Peloton for others who are looking: Much more variety in machines and price ranges, from either ProForm, Nordictrack, or Freemotion The subscription is $14.99/month if you didn't get some special deal iFit does not have live classes iFit has a ton of real world maps The coolest part: the bike/treadmill/elliptical will automatically adjust resistance and/or incline to go with the workout or trail you're riding. I love this feature!

If you haven’t done the Emma/Cody duo ride its good choreo! 1/9/20

This was what I was planning on buying once we have a house as I love the elliptical machine versus bike. Glad to hear that you like it.

I ended up buying a ProForm bike back in November because of this thread and I am so glad that I did. I have done a few of their studio classes but don't really enjoy them. Nothing wrong with the classes (the one Australian guy cracks me up), it's just not my style of workout. I don't think I would have done well with a Peloton.
However, I do like the outdoor video rides! I've actually managed to stick with it so far because of this, doing 5-6 rides a week. I'm a travel fanatic so the rides through Switzerland, Chile, etc. have been great. I did one in Turkey last night that also gave you a bit of a historical and cultural overview of the region.

I saw on one of peloton FB pages about someone having a bad day, so she poured herself a glass of wine and did a scenic ride through Paris. Genius! Especially in the winter months. So, use that bike as a relaxation tool too! (and maybe install a wine glass holder on it?)

If my bike wasn't in my cold ass basement I'd totally do this. LOL.

Got my bike today!!! Did a beginner ride and then a 20 minute ride with Ally Love followed by a 5 minute stretch. Then my 10 year old daughter hopped on and did a 10 minute scenic ride through Las Vegas. This thing is pretty awesome!!
Has anyone else had their cadence and resistance ranges disappear over the last few days? I tried googling to see if there was a change that removed it, but every thread I’ve found is from like 2019 or older.
I loved having the ranges on the screen! I hope it comes back. I also hope it’s not an issue with my specific bike.
