I am physically ill typing this...Sanders. I don't trust Bloomberg with his record of stop and frisk. HOWEVER, others not from this board are saying Bloomberg is the only one who can beat 45 and I am all...WTF?
If you live in a red state, you hear a lot of this sentiment, sadly.
"Ain't no way I'm votin' for no socialist."
"I don't want to stand in line for toilet paper - I'd vote Trump over [insert every other Democratic candidate] any day."
etc.
Yup - leave the three or four "liberal" cities or counties in our state and you'll hear this sentiment. We are a state of right-leaning libertarian-minded people, and so they feel that Trump is more libertarian than any socialist type (like Sanders or Warren). Trump's not respected for the most part for his social issues, but he is respected for less taxes and less regulations - he's definitely slashed budgets and gotten heads of departments who have done that for him by rule and memo, and therefore made less regulatory oversight trickle-down even when Congress couldn't get it done with laws enacted.
Bloomberg has pushed racist policies, has loads of sexual harassment claims and is a multi-billionaire. I honestly don’t understand why anyone would choose him of the two.

Because it doesn’t affect them, so why would his extremely problematic issues be an issue to them now? It’s incredibly short sighted and extremely privileged to continually gloss over his past behaviors and actions.

And the vast majority of voters are uninformed. They will be easily swayed by Bloomberg’s carefully curated ads.
ETA I still think a vote for Bernie is the morally right choice. But I can see a pragmatic argument for Bloomberg

I wasn’t even sure who we were talking about here in this paragraph. It seems to apply to both
Sanders of course. Bloomberg’s racism and history of harassment is enough to keep me from voting for him. I’m also very uncomfortable with the fact that he has so obviously bought his way into the election

Right. Bloomberg is only “better” if you’re willing to ignore a lot of stuff that has a material impact on some - but not all - of us. Must be nice to be so certain it would be better for you under Bloomberg than Trump.
I would need to see more data at that time to see who was in a better position to beat Trump. But what a shitty soul sucking choice.
Yeah.
I’m voting in the last primary in the country so this question has crossed my mind.
I’d pick the one who I was most convinced by June could beat Trump.
If that vote were today and these were the only options, I will confess to voting for Bloomberg. He’s a hot mess, a racist and bigot in every way, an all around horrible option and ranks after Pete, Steyer and a giant meteor. But based on what we know today, I think he can more easily beat Trump than Sanders. He is proving he can buy an election whereas Sanders can’t even hold on to even half of the people in NH who voted for him in 2016.
As for the people wondering how anyone could possibly put Bloomberg over Sanders, I simply do not believe Sanders is capable of winning. The question for me isn’t who is worse, Sanders or Bloomberg, but rather who is worse, Trump (because Sanders is guaranteed to lose) or Bloomberg.
I’m also factoring into my decision the fact that people like Lucy McBath and my mayor Muriel Bowser have endorsed him and that he does have a not insignificant base of black support. I disagree with these endorsements given the field now, but he’s got more black support than Buttigieg and Klobuchar, and I am not going to discount that.
I will of course continual to evaluate all evidence as it comes in, including watching where voters of color go if it does really whittle down to this two.
I also respect fully the people who feel Sanders is the responsible choice here and aren’t trying to convince you to switch, only laying out my reasoning because I feel it’s necessary to show my work, given what a shit bird Bloomberg is.
This is a shit primary that we are even having to consider this.
How many times did Bernie vote against immigration reform thereby forcing immigrants to stay in the shadows? I feel like they both suck royally on some things. But Bernie doesn’t have a great history on immigrant issues. This is a sick question anyway. And plus most of us will never be in a position where we have to choose between Bernie or Bloomberg and no one else in the primary.
ETA: except for ESF. Sorry that you have to consider this. 😬
Sanders without question. I won’t willingly vote for an abhorrent human like Bloomberg who is literally attempting to purchase the presidency while there is any other choice.
If it comes down to it, I’ll vote Bloomberg over trump but never when there is another choice for the primary.
For all my justified hatred of Sanders, Bloomberg is on a whole other level.
Yeah exactly. I guess I’m not surprised that people on here are saying they’d vote for Bloomberg :/ Sounds about white!
Dude. My husband is not white and also an immigrant here and would likely pick Bloomberg in this shitty scenario. Actually he may choose him anyway. That’s how terrified he is of another Trump term and for him that’s the only relevant calculation. Do you think he likes Bloomberg? Bloomberg sucks! But Bernie seems headed for electoral disaster. At least at this time. Picking someone you know will lose also feels like the whitest thing ever. This is all fucking complicated shit!

Is this the immigration reform bill you’re referring to? I think it is definitely complicated and not straight forward in regards to this bill.

That’s fine. I mean some Black and Brown people also vote for Trump, that doesn’t mean I support that decision.
I think we learned a pretty good lesson last election and now even this primary that we have no clue who is going to win. I do not know that any dem is DEFINITELY going to lose. Therefore I’m going to vote for whomever in the primary that I think is the best candidate morally and who supports my position and supports humanity.

But, it would be very heavily influenced on the polling at that time of who is more likely to beat Trump, which is after all my fundamental goal.
ETA I will admit that if it comes down to this choice - highly unlikely in my case - I will consider not voting in the primary. I will definitely still vote in the general.
Related: last night I told H I wanted to make a donation to Warren and asked him what he thought was reasonable. He named a number double what I had been thinking. So, I guess that's good?
To me my moral compass has gotten less and less complicated over the years. I’m pretty clear on my values and Bloomberg does not align with them at all, nor does Trump.
Plenty of people don’t think Bloomberg is electable .. plenty of people thought Biden was definitely most electable a couple months ago. Tons of people thought there was no way in hell trump would win. Nobody knows how people will vote!! So making my primary decision based on a future hypothetical when nobody knows the outcome with any certainty makes no sense at all.
So I’ll vote based on values in the primary. If we all voted Bloomberg because for some insane reason we all think a racist sexist person such as him has the best chance of beating trump then he did beat trump ... well great but what if we vote for someone who wasn’t a piece of shit and they beat trump ?! Or what if nobody can beat trump anyway but we still choose that guy, how embarrassing.
It’s possible that anybody in the race right now would beat trump and its also possible that nobody in the race will beat trump. But none of us knows the outcome.
