Sanders 100% without question. They are not even in the same realm for me for all the reasons others have already stated. Bernie is FAR from a perfect candidate, there are things I don't like about him, there are things he has really fucked up on, but it is not even a competition for me between him and Bloomberg.
To me my moral compass has gotten less and less complicated over the years. I’m pretty clear on my values and Bloomberg does not align with them at all, nor does Trump.
No one is calling your moral compass into question.

You asked what isn’t complicated, so I took that to mean that you think that there are a lot of complicated issues that make it difficult to decide in this hypothetical scenario.
My point was that to me no it is not complicated at all. Stop and frisk isn’t complicated. Calling sexual jokes at the job ok isn’t complicated. Referring to trans gender person as "it or some guy in a dress" isn’t complicated. Saying you worked hard for your money without acknowledging others likely harder work isn’t complicated.

Yeah exactly. I guess I’m not surprised that people on here are saying they’d vote for Bloomberg :/ Sounds about white!
Dude. My husband is not white and also an immigrant here and would likely pick Bloomberg in this shitty scenario. Actually he may choose him anyway. That’s how terrified he is of another Trump term and for him that’s the only relevant calculation. Do you think he likes Bloomberg? Bloomberg sucks! But Bernie seems headed for electoral disaster. At least at this time. Picking someone you know will lose also feels like the whitest thing ever. This is all fucking complicated shit!
How would pushing Bloomberg be any less of an electoral mess. Yeah...let's admit that any billionaire can buy their way into the white house. That will definitely get the turnout we need.
Oh, okay, Sanders. {{shudders}} I’m a progressive, I can’t get past stop and frisk, and I actually think Sanders would do okay in rural Maine, where I’d end up canvassing for him if he won the nomination. At least I could argue his ideas with enthusiasm. And he has droves of supporters in our progressive city that would get out to vote way more readily if Sanders was the nominee.

What's your take on black women like Lucy McBath and Muriel Bowser (mayor of D.C.) endorsing Bloomberg? I'm asking because we've been on these boards for years together, so I'm honestly interested in your opinion, and I very much fear my voting reality in June.

Not sure. I haven't read about their reasoning. Of course Bloomberg isn't going to only have white male straight supporters. I'll have to look up what they've said about him. Thanks for bringing that to my attention!

Gun control, mostly, from what I have read. I'm new to D.C, so not a Bowser expert but my initial take is she's not as thoughtful as McBath. I give to McBath so I suppose I'm now indirectly supporting him, which is already shaking me, but she's so inspiring that I can't shut her off.
Let's just hope this is not a scenario we have to ever see!
I have no reason to support Bloomberg and many reasons not to. I have many reasons not to support Sanders, and only a few reasons why I might, so if necessary, I'd vote for him.
But this reminds me, I need to go donate to Warren again.

This article talks about the tie between Bloomberg and McBath. I am not saying this is wrong on either of their parts, but they do have history and her endorsement wasn’t entirely surprising.

Ultimately, until there is some meaningful campaign finance reform, dems need investors like Bloomberg - I'm not really faulting anyone for this. It sucks and is a real problem, but if Republicans are going to take Koch money and have their own 24 hour propaganda network, then we can't really afford to be purists about this right now.
Being a billionaire is one of the very least reasons on my list of why I would vote for almost anyone over Bloomberg. He is truly no better than Donald Trump in terms of how he views marginalized groups. And at the debate, he showed that he isn't even much better of a showman.
I'd lean Sanders in this doomsday scenario, but if he picked someone especially awful for VP and Bloomberg someone especially smart VP, I'd give it a second look.
But I'd need a shower and a barf bucket either way.

I’ll admit that I was somewhat open for to Bloomberg before the debate in a ‘lesser of two evils’ way. But now, after seeing him in action, there is no way I believe that he could beat Trump. Head to head, Trump would drown him out and eat him alive. Anyone who honestly thinks that Bloomberg is some kind of Trump kryptonite is seriously delusional.
What we need is the nominee (ideally Warren) to have some of that sweet Bloomberg cash and access to his marketing team.
Whomever is running his digital and traditional marketing is killing it. But, that’s all he’s got.
So, in this horrible doomsday scenario, I choose Sanders.
I know so many over 60s who will never vote for Bernie no matter what.
I'm not directing this at you, just FYI.
But I see 'vote blue no matter who' just SHOVED in the face of people of color when they talk about the erasure of Kamala and other candidates, and their frustration that issues that affect them, but not white people, barely get a mention in debates and in general. And these are voters who have reliably voted blue no matter who, and have really been poorly compensated for their loyalty.
So I'm sorry, but boomers can just get over it. I get it, Bernie sucks, I supported HRC in every way that I could and to see him in the position he is in right now pisses me off. I don't like his policies and I think he's been a do-nothing jerk in congress for far too long. But if black people can turn out reliably for candidates that only show up to talk to them every 4 years when it benefits the candidates, then these people can get off of their asses and do the right thing. Propping up a racist with a D behind his name is the surest way to lose that bloc, possibly permanently.
I cannot fathom how someone who claims to be a democrat can hate Bernie so much that they would vote for Bloomberg. He is vile. And if we elect him we lose all ground on claiming we care about racism, sexism, sexual assault, class equity, democracy...
Because Bernie cannot win against Trump. I'm sorry, but I honestly believe that is the truth. He has a low ceiling on his numbers. Bloomberg is already nearing even with Bernie, and isn't even officially in the race yet.
I would never cast a vote for Mike Bloomberg. Never. Absolutely never. It absolutely is exactly the same as voting for Trump.
What is your thinking? I would say he is light years ahead of Trump on gun control, immigration, protecting abortion rights, appointing non-terrible judges, and mitigating climate change.
Yeah, he's racist and sexist, but at least he is willing to consider that he has work to do, I think, even if it's not out of genuine concern but only to please his constituents. Trump is definitely not giving an inch, and will probably get worse if re-elected.

why do people think that Bloomberg can win or will energize downballot races?
Because he is an old white man. That's literally it. There is no possible other reason to justify that given that he is unvetted, untested with the broader electorate, and has only been running for president for like 5 mins.

Because Bloomberg, the guy who admitted to making sexist jokes on the debate stage just this week, and Bloomberg's money are being conflated. A candidate can not win the primary or the general without substantial funding, and thanks to Bernie's purity pledge to not accept PAC money (we're not allowed to talk about Our Revolution I guess), democratic candidates are trying to compete against Bloomberg with much fewer resources.
The answer would be for Bloomberg to really put his money where is mouth is and help fund the campaign of an actually viable candidate. He's said he would, and I will believe it when I see it.
Sanders. I don’t actually disagree with his ideas, and at least he will fire up to left, and likely some non-Dems, while registered Dems will most likely fall in line with anyone. I just hate his followers, have some concerns about his past/his hypocrisy, and don’t actually expect him to get anything done.
I find little that excites me about Bloomberg, and a lot I disagree with, actually. And we’ll lose a ton of people on the far left to a third party candidate or staying home. Same with many black and brown Americans.
@@@ In a sign of how far we have fallen as a nation, when faced with these possible choices I honestly have to say to myself "Well, at least Sanders/Bloomberg won't put kids in cages" in order to make sure I vote for the D candidate no matter what. Even here in blue NY. That is where we are right now.
I am not sure that he would actually make any changes at all. Seriously.
At least Bloomberg appears to believe in some democratic norms. Like, he probably wouldn’t do shit to get himself impeached or trash our standing in the world, and might get more people in the state dept and DOJ.

I used to believe him about that, but he's an egotistical white man who is going to feel he was entitled to win this race. I would be shocked if he really does fund the campaign of whomever wins, especially if it is Warren after how she destroyed him on stage the other night.
