picksthemusic does the insurance pay for the hotel? If it doesn't, I have an extra room you guys can stay in..
Morning! I'm getting a new toilet today and that's super exciting haha. The plumber that came over yesterday was super cute, friendly, and stayed for 2 hours chatting with me........did he not see I had a baby strapped to me the whole time??
It's slightly annoying that the boy sleeps so well. He STTN again, like his 10th time or so...bjl has pretty much STTN that many times ever.
I would say something. Being pissed will only make it harder for you to fall asleep . I had to very explicitly tell DH exactly what I needed to stay sane -- he just didn't get it. I've also done nearly all night wakings G's whole life since sleep deprived DH is useless and annoying. But I have insisted on at least one weekend catch up day for sleeping in. I sometimes let him sleep in the other weekend day as long as I'm feeling ok but sometimes claim both days after a really bad week. That works for me, but what's most important here is what YOU need to function. He needs to help you get to that point.
This. When it was just one baby, I did 110% of the work MOTN, but I got the weekends, and I would TAKE those weekends sleeping in.
Men have a harder time adjusting to babies, and seriously need a huge kick in the pants. I'd wait until you are both fairly rested to have a talk and lay out what needs to be done and who is able to do what. No early bedtimes without checking with the other, first.
spunbutterfly she had a cream cheese sauce...it wasn't a lot, but she was dipping in it before I realized...I'm tempted to just give her a slice if cheese and see what happens, but I don't want her to cry either
You might as well try if she already tried something and didn't react.
I ate a lot of East Asian and Thai food. I can't imagine soy intolerances and eating Asian too though.
Yup Thai food is my other cheat day food. If I'm too tired, I almost always get thai...which used to be 2-3 times a month.

jennlin, there are multiple April 2012 mamas who are still nursing their MSPI babies 21 months later so they must've figured out foods to eat. Do you want me to ask them for some additional ideas and advice for you? I remember hearing about some of the babies growing out of their intolerance and others not -- I think most of the moms just ate a little either soy or dairy and waited to see what happened in order to "check" every so often.
Thank tou, but my biggest issue is Chinese food! I can eat steak, potatoes, hamburgers easy, but my stir frys and chow mein dishes are haunting me! Are there Chinese mspi mamas on the board?
shevacc and @lauralynne you two are so sweet! I guess I will pick some costco egg rolls next time! I've been using fish sauce (the one I use is also soy free) and oyster sauce to season my food but it's about a billion times more expensive than soy...it sorta works, but it's frustrating!
LL, it's half about the cooking, half about the lack of appetizing foods. I can eat whole foods all day safely, but it's not part of my normal diet. I normally cook with a lot of Chinese sauces (I'll show you my pantry....don't know the names), and they're all soy based. And if I want a cheat-day, everything has soy. The soup base I normally use has soy (although I found one this weekend that does not). I've also been using maggi seasoning, which tastes kinda like soy, but has msg, so I feel super guilty using it and I avoid it.
I ate sandwiches (and only sandwiches) for 2 days bc of convenience (family was over, brought restaurant food over), and boy reacted big time...turns out my mayo had soy in it.
jamer, the price of formula terrifies me! And the special kind, too! I'm too stubborn to give up on bf. At what point did you switch?
spunbutterfly, you said Thor grew out of his at 6 mos...how did you check? Bjl was still reacting at about 17mos, but she had something with cheese in it the other day by accident an did not react, so I'm wondering how to sneak it back in to test.
I'm sorry nothing is ever simple, jennlin. Do pot stickers have soy in them before you add sauce? You can do grilled meat and make your own marinades. I'm hoping Spun is right that maybe coconut aminos would be better in a marinade?
Yup. Premade pot stickers, won tons, and egg rolls (these were always my lazy-day cheats) all have soy mixed into the meats.
I'm hoping spunbutterfly is right too! Everything I'm finding right now with paleo Chinese says to either use the coconut aminos (which I haven't been a fan of), avoid Chinese food altogether, or ignore the fact that soy sauce has soy in it.... I already tried to pretend that the soy in soy sauce wasn't enough to affect him, but I was very wrong.
shevacc coconut aminos do not taste good lol. I bought an expensive (well, not really, but for the size) bottle of it and it does not do the trick. It tastes sweet and a little bit sour. Are you familiar with black vinegar? It tastes like that, but a little less sour.
@jennuinne doughnuts are made with milk and sometimes butter
I'm really trying to eat!! I made my own taco seasoning the other day and I had taco salad for brunch. As much as I love tacos, I can't eat like this forever! The plan for tonight is steak and potatoes....still not Chinese. I ate rice and Chinese veggies all weekend and that's it...which...works, but there's no meat in it...and I'm a meat eater nom nom nom. I can cook my own food, but anything that's prepared at all (soup stock, sauces, annnnything at the Chinese grocery stores) has soy.
Whine, vent, cry. Sorry I've been unloading on you guys!! My life has been super exhausting/frustrating lately. Did you know mayonnaise has soy???!!!
I'm in a world of hurt. I woke up thinking it was Friday.
Both kids got dx with a cold yesterday, so it's nothing serious, just annoying. Bjl seems better right now...we have only given her the RX twice, but she's already not congested....I hope this keeps up!! Boy is in the "wait and see" zone.
I'm pretty much starving myself each day, and my milk supply is starting to hurt. Being Chinese and not eating soy is impossible. Nothing satisfies me so I just avoid eating and it sucks. I pump when bjl is at grandmas, and that supply is going down...I'm still confident there's enough for boy, but it's depressing to see numbers go down. I will need to stRt doing supplements and all that fun stuff...and EAT. Ugh. Nothing to eat.
Poor kiddos and poor mama! I hope they both are feeling better really soon!
We went shopping on Saturday evening in Seattle and G thoughtfully slept the whole time in her stroller. Then Sunday we had a play date at the BI Children's museum with @legalbritt and BJL, plus another mutual friend and her daughter, and a friend of LB's. The kids had so much fun together and running around the museum in general . Not a bad weekend here.
Voice of dissent....I would not be "happy" but I wouldn't be pissed either. Mil started with bjl before I did, and didn't ask. I was upset, but now I'm thankful. Mil has the time to do it, and I just needed to follow through. H and I are firmly in the camp of "it takes a village" to raise a baby, *especially* with 2. I would die without help.
I would still be upset if she started it w/o discussing it w/ me. Â But, your MIL watching bjl during the day, right? Â So, of course, she would need to be involved in PT. Â I think picks situation is different. Â Also, her MIL has a history of over-stepping and J has a history of going along w/ MIL w/o discussing it w/ picks. Â And M will be w/ MIL for a most of the time for the next few weeks, so picks would be missing out on most of it. All of that would make me extra stabby.
True. I guess the part of picks not being happy about it should be the end of it and j needs to stand up to his mom. Doesn't matter the situation, mom (and dad) needs the finalsay, and if she doesn't want mil to pt, then she should not. My point was that having someone else pt bjl made it super easy on us (even though post-baby, she has majorly regressed).
H and I went to our friends bday party Saturday...boy did not take a bottle and cried the whole time. Bjl's 3 month long congestion turned into a fever, which means ear infection. (The doc gave us an antibiotic RX the week before bc he knew an ear infection was on it's way, but not there yet). So when we left the house for the bday party, both kids were crying...... Bjl wasn't feeling well, and was asleep when we got home, so we just left her at grandparents house for the first time ever (but took the boy home).
Sunday, boy started coughing with slight (99.5) fever, so today we're going to pedi again. We left bjl at grandmas again so the two don't keep waking each other up, and so she can take a bottle with the meds in it instead of using a dropper, etc. Apparently she still didn't take bottles all night, and was awake vomitting, so I got the better deal, but poor baby.
She seems better this morning, but will sneak her in to have the pedi look if there's anything else we need to do for her.
Sorry for the long ramble/rant of my sick children. Have a good day everyone!

did you not get your gallbladder removed? i thought you did.....if not..is that an option? a friend of mine's wife got it removed while she was 35-ish weeks pregnant bc of the same thing as you.
yay it's friday! i miiiiiight be going on a "date" tomorrow with h. an acquaintance (used to be good friend but faded through the years) of mine is turning 40..and he wants a karaoke party. him and i have been talking about a duet for about 10 years now, but we've never had the chance. we tried to give the boy a bottle yesterday, and he was having none of it. MIL said he was better than bjl, but he didn't eat any of it at all. he went 3 hours w/o eating more than a few drops. so we'll see how comfortable i am leaving him tomorrow.
in other news, i had 2 oreos for breakfast/lunch. i need to eat something else, but there really isn't any food in the house since we just got back from vacay. instead of grocery shopping like we said we would yesterday, the boy and i both took a 5 hour nap yesterday (bjl was at MIL's).
How old is LO? Boy is 3 months today! Bjl is 23 months....not as thrilled about this one..... What's new and/or exciting lately? Not a whole lot is new and exciting... Why is being a mom stressful this week? Bjl's burn on her arm needs to be covered from sub exposure to prevent scarring, kinda hard to do in Hawaii Why is being a mom worth it this week? Bjl looooooooves the water, even seeing it out the car window has been making her happy Why is your kid crying these days? Over tired. Long days while on vacay. How are you dealing with the cold weather and keeping LO entertained? It's HOT!!! Dunno what you're talking about
You can if you want to, but it's not important. We didn't start teeth brushing until maybe 10 mos, and we had most our teeth by then. She's had two dentist visits so far, and have healthy teeth.
When do you do first dentist visit?
15 mos.
I think the rec is 12 mos for ff babies, 18 for bf.
