Aww congrats again! Sounds like a rough time but I, too, loved hearing about your husband seeing her for the first time. Enjoy your little one and I hope breastfeeding gets easier for you soon!
IndiaInk, you really are in the home stretch. I love dates, so the advice from your midwife excites me greatly. Have you ever tried making homemade Lara bars? That'd be a great way to incorporate more dates into your diet.
No I haven't! Do you have a recipe? I'm trying to think of good ways to use dates without having to eat them plain.
My random is that I wish it would quit raining and being overcast, because it's affecting my mood. I need every ounce of sunshine-induced energy boosts at this stage in my pregnancy.
I am 38 weeks today! I really can't believe how fast this has gone!
I'm feeling overall pretty good, but I really understand why most women want to be DONE with pregnancy at this point. I've slowed down a lot, which bugs me because I am used to being really physically competent and active with my farm work. I have a lot of trouble falling asleep most nights. I've been having a lot more Braxton-Hicks contractions and menstrual-type cramps. I'm so, so tired and am crying more often and just feeling anxious to get labor started!
I'm drinking raspberry leaf tea, taking evening primrose oil and eating dates like it's my job. My midwife quoted a recent research study saying that 6 dates a day can help induce and augment labor. I don't even like dates that much, but bring it ON!
I made my registry list on Amazon pretty early, as more of a private list of things to remember to buy for the baby because I didn't want a shower. My friends ended up throwing me a shower anyway, and it was at 34 weeks. Only a few people shopped off the registry, but that was fine by me because I'd already purchased most of the important items myself.
I know firsthand how stressful this is. I had two early miscarriages and there was never a hb either time. I had bleeding at 9 wks with this pregnancy and freaked out. I just KNEW it was over. When I got in to see my midwife the next week, they did an u/s because they didn't want me to be stressed. There was a wriggling, healthy little baby in there. No idea why I spotted, though. The fact that your baby had a heartbeat should be very reassuring. I really hope your spotting subsides and you are able to have some peace. I'm thinking of you.
You mean all of us who live in the Pacific NW? Haha! I started taking Vit D last winter and noticed a HUGE improvement in my mood. I was way less depressed/"down" in the winter and I think I got sick less too. I think most people here in the Pacific NW are deficient, so I haven't even bothered to get my actual levels checked. I just take one or two 2,000 IU gel capsules of Vitamin D3 daily in the fall/winter and I've never had anything but good effects.
I'm sorry you're feeling like this. I hope it passes quickly for you. I didn't have much nausea, but I had a lot of headaches in 1st and 2nd tri. I found that I had to take Tylenol immediately when I felt even the slightest twinge of a headache and then I'd be okay. But if I tried to wait it out, nothing would help. I also got a chiropractic adjustment to my neck and I REALLY doubted it would help but I actually went headache-free for nearly a month afterward. Might be worth a shot.
I use the freestyle and it has a battery. I love it b/c I can drive, wash dishes cook, vacuum, etc all without dealing with a plug. Also I am not even sure the pump room in my office has a plug. It is also great when I need to pump at the airport etc
Holy cow - you can do all those things while pumping?! I had no idea that was possible and I'm super impressed by your talent.
I'm getting ready to order my breast pump through my insurance and I'm thinking of getting the Hygeia Q. hygeiainc.com/shop/double-electric-breast-pumps/q-breast-pump/ But it doesn't sound like it has a battery, so I'd need to plug into a wall outlet.
I don't even know how much I'll use it because I own my own business and will have the baby with me most of the time. In what circumstances is it nice to have the battery option? Will I regret it if I select a pump without a battery?
I think I was having some random contractions last night and definitely had menstrual-type cramps all evening til I fell asleep. I'm so uncomfortable in any position these days. I know my body is just getting into "preparation for having a baby" mode, and it doesn't necessarily mean I'm going into labor. But it sure makes me wonder! It's hard to believe we are only a couple weeks (or less!) away from meeting our real, live baby!
Yeah my feelings would have been a bit hurt. I have occasionally wanted my mom to comment on my belly in pictures and when she hasn't, I feel a little sad. She lives far away, so sometimes I text her pics and say something like, "look how big and awesome my belly is this week!!!" That usually works and she butters me up I promise I'm not as vain or manipulative as this makes it sound. Sometimes you just want your mom to get excited with you and give you extra hair pats.
I've just been carrying a maxi pad in my purse while out and about, and always have beach towels in the car. I've heard the 10% stat as well, so not too concerned.
I have a stack of towels in my car too. Mostly because we have to drive an hour to our birth center when I go into labor, and I want to be prepared for anything! It seems like a good idea to be sitting on a towel in case my water breaks while we are traveling down the freeway on our way to the birth center while I'm in labor!
Isn't it something like less than 5% of labors start with water breaking? It's like the "I won't make it to the hospital and I'll have to deliver my baby at the side of the road" fear women have as FTMs when in reality most of us go to the hospital too early with the first time.
I think I heard 10% of women's water breaks before they have any other labor symptoms like contractions. So it's pretty unlikely it would catch you completely unawares but I would probably take pads to work just in case.
Mine is mostly lying on his/her side, head down with body sort of curved around my belly button and feet near my ribs. Occasionally I can see that she's shifted to the other side of my belly, because it gets all lopsided and hard on the other side.
When they get this big, you can feel every body part. It's so crazy!
Sounds like ours are in the same position!
I thought she was moving from right to left for a while, until I realized the hard, protruding shape on my right was caused by a BH contraction. I had no idea how strong my damn uterus must be, because it looked totally lopsided!
You might be right - that could be what I'm seeing. It does tend to happen more when I'm driving, which is when I get more B-H and general discomfort.

That's great! I got a Hygeia Enjoye 100% covered from insurance for my son. The rule was that my doc could write the prescription for the pump at any time in 3rd tri, but the supplier house wouldn't "fill" it until the hospital confirmed the baby was born. My H picked it up a few days after he was born.
Do you like the Hygeia? That's the brand I am thinking of getting but it haven't seen much first hand knowledge from anyone on these boards.
I need to order mine! I've been so busy I keep forgetting!
My mom lives on the other side of the country from me. She just randomly flew in to look at a piece of property she's buying near me, and surprised me by telling me she had a few extra days and wanted to come help me out. It's such a blessing because I own a farm and my work is very physically demanding, so I've just been getting exhausted lately and feel like I'm falling behind on all the house things.
So she came over this weekend and cleaned my whole house top to bottom, weeded my flower beds, tidied up my yards, and sewed the crib skirt I've been meaning to make. Then my brother came over to see her and helped with farm work and car maintenance and his wife helped around the house too. You guys - it has been SO wonderful! I feel like such a burden has been lifted from my shoulders.
Oh - and my mom just told me her "baby gift" to me is that she's going to pay for us to hire a housekeeper for a few months after the baby is born. Hooray!!!!!! I love my family!
Hey due date twin! Congrats on the birth of your little boy! He is completely adorable! I hope he recovers soon and completely. That must be really hard to have to be apart from him. Hang in there, girl.

You can come anytime now, baby!
We are totally at that so close, yet so far stage. Gah!

Not much. I'm too cheap to spend more on my infants bedding than I would on my own, especially since it doesn't even include comforters! I think I spent about $20 on fabric for a crib skirt I'm sewing myself. And then I bought 2 regular sheets and a zipper sheet set with extra top zip-off layers to make middle of the night sheet changes easy. So, total...probably about $60ish.
