Awww, this brought back memories of the earthquake we had here last August. My reaction was to jump from the couch and run around my apartment while flailing my arms. Pretty sure that's not how Californians react when there are earthquakes, right?
This Floridian acted in a similar manner when we had a huge one in Japan. I was fine with all the 4s and 5s we got, and just would go to USGS to check, but that one was a 7.1. At midnight. And I was tipsy. And without contacts/glasses. Oh, and in my birthday suit.
Yeah, it involved thinking I had to turn on all lights and go in the kitchen (well, stumble as the floor was rolling and lurching). Until I pictured glass falling out of the cabinets. So I went and sat in the living room b/c there wasn't a 2nd floor about there. smrt. Why I didn't think to crawl under the dining table is beyond me. My dog was equally dumb as she sat on the bouncing bed staring at us until I got her to come sit by me.
Oh, for a 7.1 I think there would be arm flalling here, too.
Earthquake for sure - but as a native So Cal resident, I am just totally used to them at this point. It is VERY rare that we have one big enough to do any damage.
What is the worst or most embarrassing typo, autocorrect or other related error you have made?
Mine:
I was texting with a coworker about something work related one evening. About 20min later I went upstairs and texted Dyl who was out with friends but supposed to get home any minute "Getting in Shower", so he would know where I was when he got home. When I got out of the shower I looked at my phone, and I had sent that to my coworker instead. Yeah. I about died. Luckily coworker just thought it was hilarious and didn't think I was randomly trying to be sexy lol

HAHA no, we just look at the USGS site and take bets on the magnitude
This one was tiny though - 4.1 with the epicenter about 5 miles from where we are. So we felt it pretty good since it was close, but nothing crazy.

I am also confuzzled, so I will answer what I think you are asking.
To me, GOP means people that identify as Republican and who are active supporters/members of the Republican party.
Cons are people that fall to the right of the political spectrum, no matter if they support the GOP or not.
I use GOP more when talking about the party as a whole, their platforms, candidates ect. I try to use Cons when talking about people on the board or IRL, but I know I have screwed up before.

Apparently the levees that are not holding up are ones built by private companies hired by the parish, not the ones built by the Army Core of Engineers. Those seem to be doing well so far.
CNN is saying that the water is topping over the levees in a couple spots. People are being rescued by boats - looks like just ordinary people, not rescue crews.
Hopefully the storm starts to actually move before it gets any worse
The Bates are seriously whitewashed, and that irritates me, though it's not surprising in the least. At least they seem a bit more genuine than the Duggars, more engaged.
Totally agree. The parents seem to genuinely love their kids, and the whole family seem to like each other more than the Duggars. But they are still wacky.
according to Guttmacher, 1.5% of abortions are after 21 weeks. The stat is a few years old, but now that Dr. Tiller is dead, I would imagine the number has certainly not increased.
1.5% is still a few babies - no? for somebody who is sensitive to the topic it's too many. Playing devil's advocate here - if childhood hunger is your issue, would even 1 child going hungry be OK? That's why I get the other side on this issue at this point in my life.
You get that most of those are abortions for medical reasons, right?
I feel for the family too. They lost someone so tragically, and in hindsight, stupidly. (Because honestly, who sees red flags when a TTD phit shoot is mentioned) For years, they will have a sense of shame when they have to say " she drowned" tight- lipped when they mention her. So, they are instead trying to honor her memory a little. If this is a dangerous spot where people routinely swim against warning then I can see the desire to put up a fence. If it was all about blame, they would go after the photographer ( and maybe they will)
If we fenced off all the dangerous areas, we would not be able to go anywhere. And if we did, we would have to look at nature through fucking fences, and who wants that? I know that if I am going to hike up a mountain to look at the beautiful waterfall, I want an unobstructed view.
Both parties have shifted a lot over the years - if they hadn't, we would be up shits creek. I just believe the Reps have gone way more right over the last 15-20 years, where as the Dems have not changed so drastically in that same time period. KWIM? I personally think the change in the GOP is shitty, but I am sure that there are plenty that feel the opposite, and think the Dems have become way to left (I think the Dems have gone to right lol).
Who thinks that the Dems have become way too left, though? I mean, besides lys who we all know is pulling things out of the air with absolutely nothing to support it.
The res to fthe people that think like her. I mean seriously, how many ZOMG Socialism!!!!11!1! signs do we see? I am not saying it is logical or correct, just that people do feel that way.

Can I have a flow-chart that lets me know when it is OK to laugh at death? Cause apparently laughing at the TTD death was horrible and I should be ashamed, but laughing at this is OK.
I mean, I always feel bad for the person and the family. But shit can still be funny.
This is a stupid list. They put all "hipster bands" on a whiteboard and played "eni-meeni-miny-mo" to make this list. I mean, how else do you explain Arcade Fire being on the list instead of Vampire Weekend???
The new Fun. song is catchy, but man, it makes me think they take themselves way too seriously. Especially for a band called Fun. Half the lyrics don't make sense and the other half are just way too much.
It reminds me, also, of an NPR story I heard talking about the Ke$ha song Tik Tok, and how it was completely engineered to be a hit song. Not a good song, mind you. Just a hit song.
Eh, they are kind of awesome. Some of their stuff is just OK, but I really like most of it. And I love that they have given proceeds from the sale of a specific shrit to GBLT causes, and have been very outspoken as allies.
