If he had said something like "At least you guys aren't asking for my birth certificate, haha" I could have bought the joke thing. But no, that is not what he said. He specifically pointed out that both himself and his wife were born there, and that "No one's ever asked to see my birth certificate. They know that this is the place that we were born and raised."
I see pro-choice folks here constantly saying that if you truly believe life is life, rape exceptions are hypocritical (and I agree). But isn't that exactly what Ryan is saying here?
Sure it is. But I can still think that a VP candidate that wants to force rape victims to carry to term sucks donkey balls, since I am not pro-life.
What is this camp? Sin in the Camp is a reference to win Josh (the oldest) did something they deemed "bad" - not sure that qe ever 100% figured out what it was. The camp is just a reference to their family.
What is a headship? Menfolk. Fathers if you are not married, husbands once you are.
What does marrying down mean in fundie world? Marrying someone that is beneth your status in the world of fundy royalty.
Someone please tell me that I was kidnapped, shoved into the delorean, and taken back to 1800, cause there is no way that people are saying this shit now.
So, we are dorks. And when we watched the Daily Show episode where Flat Romney made an appearance, we had to make a little Flat Romney of our own. (Well, that was Dyl's idea, and my sister actually made it. I was more of a picture taker lol).
Anyway, my sister posted a couple of pics on her blog. There were a few more, including Romney at Obama's High School (heh), but those are on a different camera so not on here. Notice that a certain person you all know makes a cameo He is also at the BYU HI campus, hanging out with a book of great religions in a bar, drinking booze and having a yummy milkshake.
Based on the story, I am thinking her mother either forced her to have an abortion or to give a baby up for adoption, and she just had a psychotic break. The screaming that it is her mothers fault and that losing a child is hard makes me think there was some trauma there. Which makes me sad for this 19 year old kid as well - hope that she can get some help while she is in the slammer.
I had so much shellac in my hair, my hair looked exactly the same the next morning as it did when I got married. Plus I was still wearing the same makeup. Which was good and jacked.
This exactly. I had so much hairspray in my hair I could have driven in a convertable at 90mph and nothing would have moved. Plus I still had bobby pins in there. And the makeup. Oh the makeup.
Also, who wants to worry about looking good the night after what amounts to a giant party? Fuck that.
I never got snow days, either! Last time it snowed was a couple years before I was born, and of course it didn't stay on the ground.
I just checked Andrew. It was the 23rd/24th. IIRC, it actually hit at like 5am on the 24th. We'd evacuated the night before, listened to the reports before the power went out, and we came home the next afternoon.
Sorry to derail. I just hadn't thought about Andrew in a long time. Hard to believe it's been 20 years. My aunt's place in Homestead still bears the scars.
NPR did a lot of their broadcasting from Homestead - they were talking about how the destruction of much of the town has actually led to its revitalization. Very interesting.
I was always jealous growing up when watching Christmas/Winter movies since they always had damn kids getting snow days, and the most we got was a game of Heads Up 7-Up instead of recess.
I lived in S FL my entire life, and I only ever once got a storm day. Hurricane Georges, my senior year. Lame.
Actually, isn't it the Andrew anniversary? Either today or yesterday, can't remember.
Not sure exactly what day it is, but I know NPR has been running Andrew stories all week.
We were just opining the lack of any weather days in CA. We get emails from our other offices when they have to close down - we never have any reason. Hell, we have all our network servers on site, so we even have backup generators in case of power outages. We have no hurricanes, tornados, snow or really even excessive heat. We also never have anything exciting happen around here (just got emails from our Tampa and NC offices about possible light staffing during the conventions). Obviously we are jokingly complaining - I sure as hell don't want hurricanes. I just want random days off
We are doing 3.5% FHA. I know that is a no no to many, but it works for us. We are going to get an awesome interest rate and the housing prices seem to have it bottom, so we are not waiting to buy until we have 20% saved in VHCOL area. Plus this will most likely be our forever home, so we really wanted to lock in a great interest rate and start building equity.
I wonder if having access to affordable health care means that more women decide to stay pregnant even if they do end up with an unintended pregnancy. If prenatal care and delivery is more affordable and easier to access, women may not be as overwhelmed with the financial costs as they would have been had they been uninsured.
Edited because I am tired and apparently unable to type.
Well now, I guess we are going ot have a rash of shootings since the Dark Knight.
Sadly, they happen every day in this country. Hell, I live in a nice, quiet, safe suburb of Austin, and we had a shooting here this week that sent 4 people to the hospital. It happened during the night after a group of people met up for a planned fight and someone started shooting. If you're going to have widespread access to guns, people are going to get shot.
I agree with your comment about gun access for sure. But mass shootings and gun violence in general are slightly different IMO. Both horrible, but someone walking in and killing or trying to kill a bunch of random people is different from a gang member shooting at a rival gang.
No, there were people that were saying she was lying.
For Example: I just don't thing young girls should be encouraged to lie about rape or SA. And that is exactly what's happening here.
Just as the boys, who in their minds (child's minds, mind you) likely thought they were just playing around with the drunk girl, there are consequences for her actions. She should not be getting a pat on the back for violating the law and lying about what happened to her.
After re-reading, I read that as, what was happening here, as her being encouraged to lie about rape or SA. Not that she WAS lying, but was being ENCOURAGED to lie.
It seems you're also mashing separate, partial posts together -which hurts the context, as you know.
Actually, I think the context just makes my point stronger, and I totaly didn't get the vibe that "she is being encouraged to lie". The vibe I got is that our response to her "lie" woudl encourage other girls to do the same.
And I wasn't about to copy and paste full posts - I was just pointing out that there were, in fact, people saying that she was lying.
Thank you. Jumping to the conclusion that she was definately raped might be a bit much, but jumping to the conclusion that she's a big fat fucking liar who definately WASN'T raped is just as bad. If not worse. Because if she was raped, then you just re-victimized the victim.
I don't think anyone is saying she definitely is lying but based on the following (and granted it is the defendant's lawyer talking here so we can't take it as gospel, but.....):
Mejia said that he and his client were angry about the posts and that Dietrich was not entirely honest.
"The victim, in a fit of anger, tweets my clients name, calls him a rapist -- something he was never accused of -- and said the court system was corrupt and he got away with what he did," Mejia said. "She also said he videotaped her and put it on Internet. There never was a rape, there was no video and there was nothing on the Internet. But he did admit to the conduct as charged which was criminal sexual abuse or touching."
There seems to be atleast a possibility that she is lying.
No, there were people that were saying she was lying.

Ect ect ect.
And sure there is a possibility. That is all I was ever saying - i DID NOT understand jumping all over her for using the word rape when we have no idea what really happened. That is it. And jumping all over everyone else on here for using the word rape, when the victim herself used it, is also ridiculous.
This all boils down to semantics, because in the end this young woman is the victim of a heinous crime, and the young men that did it to her are the scum of the earth. Regardless of rape occured, or what rape is defined as, or whether or not either party is lying. (And yeah, I am rolling my eyes big time at that attorney trying to get sympathy for the boys that sexually assaulted her - so I am not apt to believe much of anything that comes out of his mouth.)
And I will be honest here - whether she was raped or not raped based on the definition of KY law (or even Federal Law for that matter), I really don't care. I still think she was brave for doing what she did, because she did end up with a shit deal she never agreed to after having naked pics of herself being touched/fondeled/raped spread around to god knows how many people.
