ETA a few updates - a few kid ages (4 mo, smaller gifts for 2 yo, 5 - 7 yo boys), white elephant, grandparent gifts, photo gifts, fun gift websites, other parent's SO.
I'm so glad people are finding this useful! I've referred to it several times myself.
Side note - the answer to this made me sad: Is it ok to cut the UPC off a gift to get the rebate? (Answer: only if the recipient is on MM. lol.)
My sister and I are doing this for each other. We both got good deals on gifts for the other on BF and there was also a $10 rebate for the items. We are sending each other the paperwork to return after we receive the gifts. We both like saving money and sharing our bargains. I would NEVER do this for somebody else.
It's totally fine between two people who you know are both cool with it. (My mom always does it with stuff for us. Except she keeps the rebates, lol.) In that post, the OP wasn't sure because she doesn't really know the recipient.
That was me, and I hope you and monsterz read the post. I think everyone agreed that it was ok in this particular, limited situation. I'm usually not that tactless. And I think she liked the gift!
ETA: And there wasn't a lower-priced "what to put on my list" entry yet, so that fills a big void. In fact, I'm going to read through it right now for ideas for myself, so thanks again!
Thanks again for compiling this list, dexteroni - it's so helpful!
I actually pulled it up a few days ago because my mom is already asking what we'd all like for Christmas ... we need NOTHING but she won't take no for an answer, so I was at least able to come up with a few practical things that won't collect dust.
For my fellow Canadians - I found this website www.amazingclubs.ca that has a choice of 25 gift of the month clubs available in 3, 6, 12 month or seasonal packages. One of the selections is a variety of the month club that you can choose different selections for each of the months. I'm going to give it a try for my parents & Son/DIL this year.
