This is going to sound INSANE but Bentonville, Arkansas. World-class art museum, fantastic restaurants, cute town square probably teeming with Pokemon.
I obviously didn't read the thread before I responded.

Are you local?
No. I'm a person surprised to see two recommendations for a city in Arkansas I associate nearly exclusively with Wal Mart as a travel destination. Ha.
i know its not within the time frame you specified but you really should come to the great Minnesota get together (state fair). It is literally the GREAT MN GTG! Starts soon. Book flights now. HTH.
Have you been to Memphis? I don't live there, but it was one of my favorite stops in recent years. There is great BBQ (and a lot of other good looking places to eat), Beale street is really fun for drinks/live music, and the National Civil Rights Museum was one of the best history museums I've been to. We were only there for about 24 hours but I know there were other things we would have done if we had longer.
I lived there for 3 years and we still visit because DHs entire family is there and I eat my way through the metro area in my nicest elastic waistband pants. We went about a month ago and I gained 10 lbs. The food is so.damn.good. I diet leading up to the trips and then I diet when i get back. Beale Street is fun. Mid-town is quirky and interesting.
Soooo I'm in Toledo now. The Mediterranean food is kind of amazing. From what I understand Pikachu lurks around downtown, both my stepdaughters have caught him. My DH takes the top off the Jeep and they drive around looking for Pokemon. Apparently there is a gym at our neighborhood park. They have Pokemon night at the AAA baseball field before the games if you like baseball.
But you should probably go somewhere more exciting. There's actually a ton of stuff I want to see along the Michigan coastline. I loved Savanah and have been dying to go back. Charleston was great too.
Ummmm... we have less alcohol in our beer but very pretty mountains and a waffle place that was on that show with the annoying blonde guy. No?
ETA- there is a poke gym at my work. I don't know what that means but I'm assuming you do, and it must be good because people go wander out in the soccer field for hours doing... poke gym things.
If I were a skier, maybe I'd head your way for Park City?
I actually have a good friend who lives in SLC, and I haven't seen her in ages since she moved.
You should go during Sundance...then i will be there too!
And I could tell you where you can find the BEST garlic bugers this side of the Mississippi...maybe the other side too!
If you need more Magikarp for a Gyarados, Houston is on that first list, is in the South and has excellent food.
Who *doesn't* need more Magikarp for Gyarados?!
I have a whopping 83 candies. LOL.
I do have one at CP 139, though, which, in theory, would evolve fairly nicely!
I have several over 100 and I know a terrible restaurant in Galveston where we can drink and catch endless Magikarp. And then we could go to a good restaurant.

We have excellent food! Including good low carb options - sausage! cheese!
We could go eat here and eat all the delicious things! www.oddduckrestaurant.com I was just there for the second time, and it's soooooo good. The duck breast! The pork belly! The chicken liver butter!

You can buy cheap and AMAZING sausage from an 80-year-old Polish guy named Frank and take it home.
My friends can tell you where to do all the Pokemon Go hunting.
You can take in awesome views of the lake at the art museum.
If the Admirals (AHL, I think) are playing, you can watch cheap hockey and see intermission gems like human hockey puck and racing cheese spreads.
You can go mini bowling and hit up a polka bar.
Preach! These are the only cheese curds I can eat now. Which reminds me, today is Friday so fresh curds today! But who/where is this sausage man?
European Homemade Sausage. On Muskego, between Greenfield and Lincoln. Open Thursday to Saturday, 8-4, cash only. He tried to retire but people kept calling his house asking for sausage so he reopened part-time.

Yep. And the traffic is awful. Although the booze is pretty cheap. lol I was in Bentonville in May and was personally insulted by the BBQ. But again, the booze is cheap.

Oh darn! Wish I had checked back sooner. I'm almost never south but happened to be today. Thanks for the info!
I am thinking of taking a solo domestic trip (or maybe a trip with a couple of girlfriends) sans husband and kid in the fall or winter.
It should be a place with tasty food.
I guess good Pokemon hunting would be a plus, too. LOL.
I already have upcoming family trips this year to NYC, Chicago, and Boston.
Please suggest other cities and provide supporting evidence.
Thank you!
Mall of America is a haven for Pokémon and Pokestops. I hadn't seen so much as a stupid pidgey and rattatas for weeks, went to MOA this weekend, and bam, like 15 new Pokémon within a half hour.
Plus, you know, those of us who reside in MN are pretty awesome.
As far as winters go, we really haven't had the awful winters in recent years that make MN famous. Not nearly the snow that the east coast got over the last few years, and the temps haven't been in the negative for too many days in a row February is the worst time to come out, but Oct/Nov/Dec generally aren't bad at all.
