Fwiw the 300mg dose (the dose for abortions is 200mg) is used to treat Cushing’s disease and fda approved. Also off label use in ovarian cancer treatment.

The REMS really is the problem in regards to more clinicians being able to access it. We were hopeful that the REMS changes they made late last year were going to be completely eliminated, but they only made it easier to mail mife and unfortunately access to mife will still be a huge barrier. I think if and when REMS completely falls then more of us will have access to mife for off-label usage.

Yeah- I've heard of it used to treat Cushing's.  The article mentions that it's shown to be successful for treating fibroids and promising for endometriosis.  I learned about it in a fibroid FB group.  A member got it while in India and is feeling great after taking it once.  In the US, the treatments are painful or ineffective for a number of women.  I don't have endometriosis but I've watched friends go through hell for treatment.  I'm mad that an easy, promising treatment for them isn't available because of the anti-choice assholes.

rubytue- Yuuuup. I didn't even know I had fibroids until a few weeks ago. I was left to suffer for years because nobody would test me. I'm now trying to wrap my brain around treatment options and surgery seems to be what's pushed the most, which f'ing sucks. And then I see that article with the studies and I'm about to pass out from the rage.

winecat I’m guessing you know about fibroid embolization because I think I’m also in the FB group with that post, but I had UFE in December with success so far — happy to talk about it if you have questions. So frustrating how women’s health is sidelined in this country.

charlatti- I just PMed you. I'm just learning about my treatment options. UFE does seem to be one of the less invasive options. So our choice is to be injected with tiny plastic beads because the anit-choice assholes are holding a medication hostage. I'm so fucking angry.

Oh yes yes sorry I wasn’t clear. I did read the article and I knew about mife for other treatment possibilities such as fibroids and endometriosis. I was just saying I think more physicians would use it for other uses if it was dropped from REMS because then it would be much easier to access since you would be able to prescribe it from the pharmacy like the article mentions. Just agreeing with it! Mife would be another hormonal option which would be great to have easier access to without the REMS.

winecat, it’s only been in the past few years, like post-40 that they became unbearable, but I’ve known they were there since my 20s. I’m CFC, but looking back on life, I wonder if they are why I never even had a scare in those years I wasn’t always great with birth control.

What really pissed me off about the fibroid this is no one ever seemed to say more than “yeah, they make you bleed more” and “yeah, it happens.” Then, post cancer, I had a PET scan that said they were necrotic. 🤮 My onc suggested hysterectomy. I went to my obgyn office, and the doctor I saw was all “let’s try a low dose bcp.” I asked about hysterectomy and UFE, and she just wanted to do birth control pills, and talk about my fertility. I was 46 with no kids, and just came off a second round of cancer treatment. Why TF would you be talking about fertility?! Read the room.

I went home at called the local university hospital, hoping someone that trains doctors will be more up on options. And I almost cried when the doctor I saw actually *got* that I wasn’t a baby machine. Every other obgyn I’ve seen since my 20s treated me like the only thing that mattered about my uterus was that it would eventually make a baby.

And while I’m talking about this, I just have to share a story from last Friday. I was having my colonoscopy. The nurse was about to make me take a pregnancy test unless I was willing to sign a waiver that I wasn’t pregnant. Well, I know the last time I had sex (😞) and it’s not a danger. Then she told me the risks if I was. I looked at her and said “look, I’m 47 and I don’t have kids.” She said “ok, so you won’t be having a baby”. Me: We do live in Maryland!

Wow, this has me shook.  Mifepristone has so many proven studies that it shrinks tumors and is also an effective adjuvant therapy for certain cancers, but we can't use it in the US because of "pro-life" assholes?  I'm going to discuss this w/my oncologist next time I see him.  How is any of this ok?

I did not know this about alternative uses for Mifepristone. I was driving in this morning and thinking about how physicians have their hands tied from offering the best medicine possible to patients because of BS from the government practicing medicine and then more BS from insurance companies practicing medicine.

Let doctors do their jobs! They went to school for a million years to be the best!

Justice Clarence Thomas told an audience in Dallas yesterday that trust inside the Supreme Court has been irrevocably broken by the "tremendously bad" leak of a draft opinion on abortion, Axios' Jacob Knutson writes from audio posted by Reason Magazine.

"You begin to look over your shoulder. It's like kind of an infidelity that you can explain ... but you can't undo," Thomas, a fierce opponent of Roe v. Wade, told his former law clerk, John Yoo, at a conference of conservative and libertarian groups.
"[T]he institution that I'm a part of, if someone said that one line of one opinion would be leaked by anyone ... you would say that: 'Oh, that's impossible. No one would ever do that,'" Thomas continued.

"There was such a belief in the rule of law, belief in the court, a belief in what we were doing, that that was verboten. It was beyond anyone's understanding, or at least anyone's imagination, that someone would do that. And look where we are, where now that trust or that belief is gone forever."
Thomas criticized abortion-rights protests outside justices' homes, saying he believes conservatives would have never done the same:

"You would never visit Supreme Court Justices' houses when things didn't go our way. We didn't throw temper tantrums. It is incumbent on us to always act appropriately and not to repay tit for tat."

first of all bitch I don’t know that the Court has ever been a sacred institution and certainly as fuck not since you’ve been gathering flies on the bench and your shitpig fellows have been warping any ethos it may have had since 2016.  The rule of law is so sacred that your wife participated in shredding the Constitution and  you didn’t recuse your wicked self from judicial oversight any of her wicked activities. And I know that you weren’t concerned about “acting appropriately” when they stalked Dr Tiller at church or shot up and bombed abortion clinics or stand outside women's health centers terrorizing patients on an hourly basis.
