A few weeks ago, but a judge rules that Trump lawyer has to testify against him regarding classified docs...indicating there is significant evidence that the lawyer was involved in criminal activity
The Justice Department made the request on the basis of the crime-fraud exception, sources said, which allows for claims of attorney-client privilege to be pierced in cases where it is suspected that a lawyer's legal services were rendered in the commission of a crime.
Howell said in Friday's order that the DOJ has met the threshold of the crime-fraud exception, according to sources familiar with the matter.
A judge Tuesday set a March 2024 trial date for Donald Trump and warned the former president that he could be found in contempt if he shared evidence provided to his lawyers in his criminal case on charges of falsifying business records.
---------- After the hearing, on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote that his First Amendment rights were violated by Merchan and accused the judge of engaging in election interference by setting the trial schedule mid-primary season.
Merchan has imposed a protective order on Trump and his defense team, barring them from publicly circulating — including on social media — evidence that is not already in the public domain.

I missed this when posted. I have no idea how this will all play out, but it's just so flagrant.
Carol Leonning of WSJ was on Nicole Wallace today. She got me so excited by suggesting we will be surprised by the charges on the docs case. She was hinting of evidence of him sharing top secret documents. None of this would be surprising but I can’t wait to grab the popcorn. I hope he is so fuuuuucked.
“The Independent has learned that prosecutors are ready to ask grand jurors to approve an indictment against Mr Trump for violating a portion of the US criminal code known as Section 793, which prohibits “gathering, transmitting or losing” any “information respecting the national defence”.”
the suspense is killing me! the only thing I'm a little concerned about is that they have a grand jury here in Miami, that one of trump's people went to testify in front of today, presumably about the mar-a-lago docs. I may be jaded, but trump is still very very popular here. It wouldn't surprise me if the jury pool is more sympathetic towards him than people think. I'm hoping it's just my paranoia.
I don’t think you are paranoid at all. MSNBC just had Andrew Weissman on (Mueller Report lead prosecutor) and he agrees with you, Heat, about the venue due to jurors and judges.
Trump is the first former president in U.S. history to face federal charges.
The Justice Department took the legally and politically momentous step of lodging federal criminal charges against former President Donald J. Trump, multiple people familiar with the matter said on Thursday, following a lengthy investigation of his handling of classified documents that he took with him upon leaving office and then obstructing the government’s efforts to reclaim them.
The indictment, filed in Federal District Court in Miami, is the first time in American history a former president has faced federal charges. It puts the nation in an extraordinary position, given Mr. Trump’s status not only as a onetime chief executive but also as the front-runner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination to face President Biden, whose administration will now be seeking to convict his potential rival.
Mr. Trump was charged with a total of seven counts, including willfully retaining national defense secrets in violation of the Espionage Act, making false statements and an obstruction of justice conspiracy, according to people familiar with the matter.
Mr. Trump is expected to surrender himself to authorities in Miami on Tuesday, according to a person close to him and his own post on Truth Social.
Thinking ahead, do we want him to be the nominee so hopefully he would lose? Let’s say Desantis is the nominee, he will endorse Desantis so he can get a pardon. Make me feel better that he won’t get away with this.

Will he, though? He’s so arrogant that I can see him continuing to run through the primary and refusing to endorse anyone else.
I was texting MH about this and wanted to add a gif. Found this one, which is perfect.
It’ll be a good day when he goes to prison. Til then, I’ll hope for the best but expect more of the same all-you-can-eat no consequences buffet we’ve been served for the last 7 years.
If he’s found guilty of violating the Espionage Act, that means he can’t run for President, correct? I wonder what the timing of that would be, and if it would be wrapped up before the election.

I feel like he will appeal any decision that finds him guilty. Not sure how that would factor in. I don’t see it being wrapped up before the primaries start.

How do you even come close to getting an impartial jury on this case?! Anywhere in the country… What a nightmare.

It could get very messy.
The very fact that it's a possibility should mean he has no chance of winning. That he has a strong chance is just so deranged.
I could not listen to his statement. Outright lie after lie after lie that the magats will eat right up
