Tangential, a story in the post (the the same one posted 3 times) about an all female conference promoting trad wives. wapo.st/466Ktol
I read stuff like this, and on the one hand consenting adults and all, and if they want to be that way, that’s awesome. That’s what feminism bought us. But, don’t go telling the rest of us it’s the best/only option.
“What I’m here to tell you is, if you were to just go back to biblical roots in what God had designed for women to do, we will be happier,” she told them.
And then I’m all HELLZ no! Who are you to tell me what make me happy?! Who are you to declare that up the only option for your female children?! Shouldn’t you want them to want what they want?
msmerymac , that’s a fair call out. And I’m having issues trying to put into words anything that explains where I was going. Perhaps it’s a case of upbringing leaving things in your head that you don’t even realize. But, I guess my thinking is that it’s equality to have a career if you want, not that you have to. But, Lordy don’t force your choice to be subservient on me…
Sarah McCammon, who covers abortion for NPR, has a book coming out next year about her experiences growing up in the white evangelical movement in the 80's and 90's. She's currently writing a Substack, and this week's post was about watching the Duggar documentary and her memories of her own family's interactions with IBLP and Gothard. It's definitely worth a read: open.substack.com/pub/sarahmccammon/p/the-culture-wars-kids-are-all-grown?r=3jvbs&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email
