I don't know where to put this so I'm putting it here. Please delete it if not allowed! Hillary tweeted this podcast episode and I gave it a listen and it's just so positive and heartwarming. It's her 1:1 with Kamala from 3ish years ago.
I’m not sure if these thoughts will come out coherent. But one thing I’ve noticed is how energizing it is to have a “new” candidate 4 months out from the election. I think about how in other countries, they don’t have this 2-year election cycle. And how draining it is.

Yup, six weeks was definitely better. BUT - they are campaigning in a way all the time. The big difference, really, is the money. You can't spend that sort of money that is spent in the US. Money is spent but the difference is huge.

Latest drumf nickname is Lyin Kamala. So she’s unknown and fires nothing and no one has heard anything from her yet she’sa compulsive liar. Projection much?

He’s such a grade school bully. It amazes me that Republican Congressmen and Senators fall in line behind him. It’s embarrassing to our country.

I just came across another one. "dumb as a rock." Again with the projection, convict don!
She called him a crook. Which is a fact. Some articles are saying they're equally insulting each other. Nah, ones demonstrably false and the other is so demonstrably true as to have courts determine he's a 34x felon. ie a crook
I swear, we are our own worst enemy & it is maddening.
First, the messaging (from the left) was, “Democrats can’t find someone, vet them, and rally behind them to win in less than 4 months! It’s impossible!”
Then, there’s tremendous energy, record-breaking money, no one else throwing their hat in the ring for the nomination, and all looks great!
Now, it’s, “Yes, but 100+ days is a long time…can people keep up the energy? Will they actually show up to vote, or will they just post about it on TikTok?”
Republicans are CERTAIN they can put a felon in the house…why are we determined to shoot ourselves in the foot by spending a single second on, “Well, I don’t know…” I realize we’re all scarred by 2016, but we can’t focus on that now.

Completely off topic but this is something that I've strongly thought since learning extensively about European election cycles in college. Our election cycle is TOO LONG. The amount of money that is spent is insane and I dislike that any candidate needs to spend/raise that much money just to win an election.
If I could wave a magic wand I would reduce election cycles for every single election. Candidates shouldn't spend half their term trying to get reelected.

We CAN do this. We WILL do this!
I am hearing from so many older relatives, “I don’t know, do you think we’re ready for a Black female president?” Well, we elected Obama twice (overwhelmingly) and Hilary won the popular vote by a pretty significant margin. “We” are ready. Also, it is embarrassing that in 2024 “we” have never had a female president before. Come the fuck on. The time is now!!!
I really like this new, short election season. It feels better than just plodding on doing the same old thing. I don't know how Trump has managed to campaign for 10 years now.

Wow, did he come up with that on his own??? So clever! Of course his little minions will eat it up though.

I'm still not clear if she has to name a VP before the virtual roll call. Trump actually announced Vance in the middle of the GOP state by state roll call, so maybe not? I don't know if th rules are similar...
The Democratic Party plans to push forward with a virtual roll call in which delegates to its convention can choose a presidential nominee before they gather next month in Chicago — despite Vice President Kamala Harris being overwhelmingly favored to replace President Joe Biden at the top of the ticket.
The convention rules committee will meet Wednesday to approve how the virtual roll call will work, but a draft of the plan was obtained by The Associated Press on Monday night. It does not list a date for when virtual voting would begin, but Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison said the process will be completed by Aug. 7 — or 12 days before the party’s convention begins.
---------------- While only 300 signatures are required to qualify for the virtual ballot, an AP survey of convention delegates from across the country found that, by Monday night, Harris has the backing of more than the 1,976 delegates she’ll need to win the nomination on a first ballot at the convention itself

I was just thinking the other day: what if this is the start of a new era in which presidential campaigns can be, say, six months long instead of two years? It does seem like we waste a lot of time in a traditional presidential campaign season. What if everyone just declared for the primary in June of that year, the primaries were in July, and the conventions were in August? Then we have September and October for general election campaigning. No need for a whole long primary campaign.

He’s also filing a complaint with the FEC to block her from accessing Biden’s campaign money alleging that it’s a violation of regulations.“He” being the guy who used campaign donations to pay hush money to a porn star 🙄
that said, I wore my AKA colors yesterday as a subtle nod to KH. My AKA colleagues noticed, and there were little smirks.
Is it normal for non-sorority members to wear sorority colors like that? I wasn’t in one, but I didn’t think that was a thing. Are we gonna have a bunch of white women parading around in pink and green now?
I don't know if it is normal, but I already have a green shirt with pink flowers and it was my quiet little nod since we can't talk politics. I am not going in a group and trying to appropriate the sorority, nor did I go out and buy something new. Also, the colors are a regular discussion among my group of colleagues because so many of them are D9 with most being Delta and some being AKA. One of them knows Kamala through AKA and we've shared in looking at her pictures and stuff. I'm not making it a regular thing nor coordinating a big group activity.
If you need hope, search the Divine 9 and Kamala on social media. They were a voting force for her in 2020 and she was the keynote speaker at the AKA conference in Dallas a few days ago. We can thank them for mobilizing immediately and the Sunday zoom call that originally had a limit of 1000 people. They got the CEO of Zoom to increase it so 40,000 black women could join for hours to strategize and donate for VP Harris, which created a wave of momentum.
Once again, Black women leading the way.
I am not as secure in this for Harris as I was in the overall Black vote for Obama, because there is still a fair amount of misogyny working against Harris. The Blackout Coalition group on FB has 1.7M members. There is a fair number who say they refuse to vote for Harris because she was hard on Black males for petty crimes when she was a prosecutor, and she can't be trusted. There seems to be some underlying misogynistic sentiment as well - from both men and women there. Many say they will just sit this one out.
I will go into this election with hopefulness but more caution than 2016.
I was super excited to see that Kamala's merch on shopjoebiden.com had her in (mostly) pantsuits of the rainbow flag AND the bisexual flag. Not every flag. Just those two. Was that targeted marketing or a coincidence?
They also have the trans flag. I think that's a pretty inclusive set to represent the community. What other ones would you be looking to see that would feel less targeted?
The DNC has given notice that if anyone else is to come forward as a nominee, they need to do so by Saturday. They also gave a soft deadline to Harris to declare her VP pick by middle of next week.

Our election seasons in Canada are only a couple months long and it is lovely. I do not miss the two year long news cycle of American elections. When you have a president running for a second term they spend half of their first term thinking about the next. Obviously there are a lot of differences in our politics and I miss some things about the American style, but the length of the election season is a huge plus here.
