I am so happy to be wrong about what I said that Biden needed to stay in the race.
I can't believe we went from trying to hold the whole election season together with string and spit, to having Megan Thee Stallion open up a campaign rally. I have whiplash at how fast everything turned around.

Me too. I was firmly in the we all need to shut up and rally around Biden camp. My mind is blown but I’m so glad people who obviously know more than me were involved in that decision.
Maybe it’s because of how long the news cycle was with speculation was but I can’t believe it’s only been a week and a half since this all has happened, so much has happened it feels like it happened months ago.

All of this. I cannot remember ever being more pleased to be completely wrong.

I think we all are still shell shocked by the 2016 relentless bullshit that brought us Trump in the first place. I am so glad to be wrong.
I think this is a good move.... those that didn't believe the scare tactics about democracy in danger are more likely to be motivated by a positive, forward thinking message.
Why it matters: President Biden wanted to make his campaign about "democracy" and Jan. 6, but Vice President Kamala Harris wants it to be about "freedom" and the "future."
As Harris spokesperson Brian Fallon posted on X last week: "Prosecutor vs. the felon, Future vs the past, Repro repro repro."

Yeah, I’m very glad she’s doing this. Biden’s campaign is 100% right that Trump is an existential threat to democracy, but unfortunately people are usually unresponsive to existential threats (see also: climate change). We tried running on a “Donald Trump is a monster” platform in 2016 and it didn’t work because people kind of didn’t care as long as his presidency would mean good things for them.
I wanted Kamala to be the nominee in 2020 and was sad that I never got to vote for her. Her messaging just never came together. But I saw so much potential. I'm thrilled that Biden pulled out. Limping to the finish line with a flawed candidate was never going to work IMHO. We have a huge uphill climb but at least we have someone that we can depend on to have enough energy to make through the campaign and hopefully the presidency.
I hope that Kamala doesn't stoop to playing in the mud with Trump. Tell people why they should vote for her instead why they shouldn't vote for Trump.
This morning in the supermarket I had a tee shirt on that said, Roe Roe Roe your vote. These 2 old women 80's is my guess, come up to me and whisper at me "we love your shirt, fight hard for rights" I asked if I could hug them and we shared a moment. I asked them if they needed a ride to vote, and they told me know they do mail in. It was such a good feeling.

When I volunteered as a clinic escort at a PP in Iowa, often there were 2 older women with me. They were seasoned! They'd been doing it for decades, back when it was pretty dangerous, and were activists to get to the point of Roe. I'm guessing they'd been in their 80s now, too. It was such a wonderful reminder that my mid 20 self had generations of people who were still just as committed when things seemed bleak (this was 2005-2006ish). Love this moment for you and your shirt!
We just did a road trip through rural, mostly red northwest US (WA/ID/MT/WY) and I was heartened by the lack of Trump signs. I've traveled the same areas twice in the last couple years and lots were still flying Trump 2020 flags. I saw maybe two "weird" houses with all the Trump paraphernalia this time and a few small yard signs, but nothing like I expected. There were lots of political signs for lower level candidates, so it wasn't for a lack of people putting out signs.
My childhood best friend just moved home and we come from a rural, red part of PA. She said she's seeing less Trump signs than expected there and our county LOVED Trump the last two elections. I really don't expect to bring these people over to the Dem side, but if the Republicans are just crazy enough to get their own people to sit out this election that works too.

THE BIG MO’ — This morning, KAMALA HARRIS’ presidential effort announced that it raised a massive $310 million in July — two-thirds of which came from first-time donors — and has $377 million in cash on hand.

We just drove through the REALLY rural Ozark area this week. We also saw a lot of signs for local races, but very few Trump signs. There were a lot of 2024 signs last year, but most are gone. One place used to have one of those absurdly large Trump flags, but it was changed to an American flag.
I agree that many of those people just won’t vote.
we are in the upper penninsula of wisconsin right now, and i'm surprised by 1) the lack of trump signs and 2) more dem signs that i've ever seen here. this was trump-town in 2020.
Honestly now that everyone else is mentioning it I have seen many trump signs either. I live in a purple area of a purple state. There was a ton in 2016, slightly fewer in 2020 and almost none this year. To be fair I don’t think I’ve seen any Biden and/or Harris signs either so I don’t want to read too much into it. The only signs I’ve seen are for down ballot primary candidates.

The area where I teach has a ton of Trump signs that have popped up over the last week, despite the rest of the county being very blue.
Apparently, when Obama was running, parents from this district went to the school board to make it a rule that teachers can’t put political (Obama) bumper stickers on their cars. Thankfully, it didn’t go anywhere, but I guess it got really heated (before my time at this school).
Based on that, I want to get like 12 l Harris magnets for my car. 🤣

Where does all this money go?? It is absolutely insane that it costs that much to run for president. Why?
@@@@ Also, I do feel like this is such a stark punch in the gut re: abortion as funds and organizations are majorly struggling to stay afloat to help people while there’s hundreds of millions flooding in for the presidential campaign.
