Yes. Our Siamese has a very loud typical Siamese meow that she'll put on mute to a "meAh" sound, plus she also has this super dramatic "OMG the rapture has come and I'm the only kitty left in the world all by myself and I'm dying and I have no food and won't someone please come save the wittle baby kitten!!" set of meows.
Our other cat has these closed mouth, "merrrrrrrr" sounds, and the occasional traditional cat meow (which BTW, sounds nothing like a typical traditional Siamese meow).
Omg, so true about the siamese meow! I have a black cat that seems to be part siamese. That is a perfect interpretation of his meow.
We have three cats and can tell the difference between all of their meows.

I really really hope that one of my jobs leads works out because I can not WAIT to get the hell out of my current job. I'm also hoping that my good work friend gets a job soon so she can leave as well. If I'm really honest what I really hope happens is that we get jobs at the same time so we can see the look on our boss's face when we both quit together!!! ;D

Yes, we are still pretty good friends. We dated for 6 years (off and on for long stretches during that time). He got married three years after I did to a really great woman. They are happy and that makes me happy.

I read this book a few months ago and loved it. It got me re-interested (if that's a word) in astronomy. Now I'm always looking at the sky and finding constellations and planets and tracking the phases of the moon. I've also been to the Griffith Park Observatory in LA quite a few times since reading this book. I loved it, and like you said, it is really accessible to a non-scientist reader. I very highly recommend it as well.

I work at a vet clinic and we had a dog come in that had eaten pot brownies and vodka left out after a party. My boss's dog had to have surgery to remove obstruction after eating four gophers.

We got two of our cats from a rescue and our third we brought in from outside after making sure she didn't have an owner. We got our dog from my work. I work at a vet clinic and he was signed over when the owners couldn't pay for the treatment he needed for a broken jaw.

I had a classmate tell me a couple of years ago that he couldn't imagine a real woman not wanting children. He could understand if a woman wasn't sure if she wanted kids, but said he thinks it is completely unnatural for a woman not to want children. That is one of the most (if not the most) offensive things that has ever been said to me.

How long have you been together? 7 years
What does your H/SO do that is particularly irritating or wildly annoying? He slurps his drinks. I understand when people do that to a hot drink, but he does it to all of his drinks.
What do YOU do that your H finds equally offensive? I leave my socks everywhere.
Are you with the "let it go" camp or are you more of belief that that one should change their behaviors to make the other happy? I've mentioned it to him a couple of times, but now I just try to ignore it.
If the latter, have you changed yourself in order to please your spouse? I try to remember to put my socks in the garage or clothes hamper, but I forget a lot.

I'm in the middle of trying to deal with my insurance company right now. They completely dropped the ball on an appeal I filed and are trying to make me file a completely new one and wait another month for the result. I'm waiting on a call back from the supervisor right now, and I'm so sick of dealing with it. It's good to know I'm not the only one.
I'm enough of a geek that I would actually check the measurements with a liquid measure. But we don't have any Solo cups and I'm not going to buy some just to try this.
We have some SOLO cups, so I just measured. I'm bored, okay ;D I got 1 oz, 3.5 oz and 13.5 oz. I was using the SOLO Bare line (clear cups) so I don't know if that makes a difference.

I thought milk was cow's blood. I thought that if there was a tornado my family could go into the "living" room (we call it this, but some people call it a family room) and we would all live.

Yup, shouldn't have clicked on that link while eating lunch. I told myself over and over not to, but I did any way. Poor, poor man. I can't even imagine all that he has had to go through.

86 with zero errors. The first time I got 59 with five errors. I think I was trying too hard the first time and kept messing up and backspacing to fix things. The second time I just took my time.
She doesn't bark when she wants to come in/go out. She just body-slams the door.
My dog also body slams the door when he wants to go out! That's super funny. If I don't get up he huffs at me. Then he hits the door with his butt again. If I still don't get up he huffs more forcefully (it sounds like he's sneezing). His final step is to paw the ground with his front feet and hop around - it reminds me of a bull. It's a very interesting progression to watch.
ETA: we have a small pond in our backyard (it used to have koi in it - damn raccoons) and whenever any o our friends bring their dogs over he gets really excited and jumps in. This must immediately be followed by rolling in the garden, jumping in the pond again, eolling in the garden, so on and so on.If he can throw one of his friends in the pond while he's at it, even better.
And I missed the cat post so I'll just add that every time we go out of town the cats wreak havoc on the house. The longer we are gone the worse it gets. We were gone for two weeks last year and every time my friend came over to feed them she would find something. They ate through a loaf of bread, pita bread, package of ramen noodles, hamburger buns, girl scout cookies, and marshmallows, got into the trash, pulled magnets and pictures off the fridge and drug our couch cushions down the hallway. All bread and cookies are now kept in a large tupperware, but last time we went away they drug that out of the pantry and into the livingroom!

I've been on a Harry Potter marathon. I've read up through Order of the Phoenix. Prisoner of Azkaban and Order of the Phoenix get 5 stars and the rest get 4. This is the first time I have read Harry Potter and I am loving it.

yes and yes. My insurance company (well, I guess the other driver's insurance company) will reimburse me for the value of the car, but I'm sure it won't be much. I will find out by the end of the week. I'm super bummed because the car only had 120,000 miles on it and my family has owned it since it was brand new, so I know the service history. I'm nervous buying a used car not knowing the full history, but that's what we will have to do.

My car got rear-ended this weekend. Body shop just called. There is over $9000 of damage. My car is a 99 honda accord, so there is no way the insurance company will fix it. Now I guess I need to start looking for a new (used car).
Just to elaborate on my being fine with three. I do think it would be overkill, but there were three that threw their hats in and I'd be fine with three primarily for that reason.
I totally agree. If three volunteered, I don't want to vote one person out. Especially when I don't really know anybody.
Interesting...my mom grew up in Buffalo, NY and I currently live in SoCal (hi neighbor!). I'm from Arkansas.
My husband actually applied for a job in Arkansas a few months ago (northwest). Didn't pan out, but I wasn't entirely opposed!
I've lived here for 9 years (did a college internship here and stayed). My husband is from Boston and eventually we'd like to maybe move to New England or somewhere else on the east coast, but SoCal is pretty cool. There are good things and bad things, like anywhere. We both like that there are tons of events and outdoor things to do all year round! For a major city, LA is super close to nature (Santa Monica mountains, the beaches, tons of national parks within a few hours).
NW Arkansas is where i grew up. Seriously bizarre! It's a great place, and I loved it while I was there. I like SoCal, but we are ready to move. We are looking at Oregon or Washington.
How did I forget this one? I'm reading it right now, and it is so good!
RIGHT?! A friend who usually doesn't have similar tastes in books recommended it to me and I was SO happy that she did. I'm planning on reading his latest, Honolulu. My friend is in the process of reading it and says it's as awesome as Moloka'i.
