Any issues or vents? I can't seem to dial in my sunscreen application. I have gotten burned both days I've been to the pool so far, despite applying what I thought was a sufficient quantity of sunscreen. Maybe I got a bad batch?
Highlights or AW's from the past week? I'm back, y'all! I totally wasn't expecting to hit the pool and be back at 3000+ yards right away, because that seems unrealistic. Yes, I've lost some fitness and speed, evidenced by my usual 8-ish minute 500 taking 11 minutes, but the distance is still there!

As far as high-value treats go, Missy liked freeze-dried beef liver pretty much from the get-go. Also ice cream (in very small amounts). She was pretty nonchalant about just about everything else for about two weeks, then the garbage disposal kicked in. Now I can go to training class with a baggie full of dry whole-wheat macaroni and she'd perform for them. So yeah. Give her a little time.
And yourself, too. You aren't failing him - you just got him and he's still adjusting to a lot of VERY big changes in the last couple months.
2 or 3 years ago, I had to take a few extra rest days after a banana bread injury. I let DD stir by herself, and the heavy glass bowl fell off the counter and landed right on my foot. It hurt so much I went for an xray - no break, but it was swollen and bruised for a few days.

Today, after swim practice, I was headed back into the pool to drop off my check for my semester parking pass (I swim at a college) and somehow managed to kick a stick with my left foot in such a way that it (mildly) impaled my right foot. I literally pulled a hunk of stick out of my foot about the size of a sharpie. (Only about 1/4 inch of it was actually in my foot, FWIW.)
My first 2.4, I broke a toe while walking up the exit out of the water. Tripped over a damn rock. How does this shit always happen to me? This is why I swim, though - I'm about as graceful as a drunken wildebeest on land.
I don't know anything about them. The only thing that would concern me is that they don't say anything about their training philosophy on their website. Are they cesar's way? Positive reinforcement? Some sort of combo? I have concerns about dominance-based training, especially in rescue dogs, so if they do that, I'd look elsewhere.
Once they respond to my email, I will ask them their particular philosophy. I agree that dominance isn't the way to go with Kappy. He needs love and security.
If they are positive reinforcement, even if Kappy only responds to praise (which is good because you don't always have a treat on you if they get stuck on that), that seems like it would work. I'd start with group classes (for sake of the socializing aspect) and only do private one-on-one if they recommend/require it due to Kappy's response to class.
We did training with Gem City Dog Obedience Club from beginner all the way through CGC. I highly recommend them. They are positive reinforcement training, very organized, and exceptionally well-run and clean. gcdoc.com/ (Not convenient in *any* way to just about anything, but I can't recommend them enough.)
As far as vets go, we used Bailey Animal Clinic in Fairborn/Enon (again, not really convenient, but can't recommend them enough). They're on Dayton Springfield road, just off 675. Dr. Heather is beyond awesome - our cat ate carpet and needed emergency surgery and not only did she do the surgery, but when he regressed afterwards, she had us bring him in at 7pm on a Saturday for an emergency visit. The staff are great, too.

I know approximately where you live and I used to live there as well, so I can give you specific recommendations for a training facility and/or vet if you'd like (PM me if you don't want me to put them out here).
We use an integrative vet here - they do acupuncture and other "woo" stuff, but they're also a traditional vet. No complaints and the acupuncture saved Cat's life a few times when he was refusing to eat.
As far as treats go, give him time. Missy wouldn't eat treats except high-value treats when we brought her home as well, but now she's pretty much a food vacuum cleaner. She'll literally eat anything. Just keep offering patiently. And try cat treats if all else fails - they're stinkier than dog treats.
Our rescue calls the relaxing as time goes on the rule of threes. 3 days for the dog to be detoxed from the shelter and start relaxing. 3 weeks for the dog to settle into your routines/get to know you. 3 months to figure out that they are "home" and really become themselves.

I'm up. Woke up at 6:30, took the dog out and fed the animals, then went right back to bed. Feeling more human now. No workout today except an open house followed by a shift at the office as agent on call. Tomorrow is the same. Back in the pool on Monday morning!
So did the bath help? You know, asking for a friend.
Yesterday I saw my sports med MD, about my back. I haven't "had" health insurance for 7 weeks, because we were using COBRA as $$$-BACKUP-ONLY between insurance due to Calvin's job change in June. Anyway, in that 7 weeks, I took a PT vacation, focused on basic "be active and healthy," walked more, rode my bike, worked on losing 5 lbs., and... my back got better. More improvement in 7 weeks than in 3 months of PT. So I asked about returning to running. And swimming. What should that look like?
But I haven't swum--like, measurable real yards--in 23 months. I'm a little afraid.
So far, I can't tell. Maybe? I've got less than full range of motion, but it's not excessively sore. I'll update tomorrow morning.
ETA: I was legit heart-pounding anxious going into the pool, and was totally prepared for about 1000 yards total. At about 1200 yards I realized I should probably have stopped at 1000 like I planned, so then I was like, in for a penny, and I just kept going until they made me get out, which is my norm. I was, however, relieved to find that I didn't lose as much speed as I thought I would. I'm normally a 1:40 100, and I was toddling about at 2:00 100s. Not too terrible.
Update for Susie ... It worked fantastic! This morning I've got full range of motion and only minimal soreness. But I do have a bit of a sunburn. Whoops.

You guys, I just got out of the pool. My first time IN the pool (in a serious workout, anyhow) since the maybe-your-heart-is-busted-and-you-could-die diagnosis in October.
I did 3000 yards. I was grinning like a fool by the time I got out, but OMG, that was probably around 1500 yards more than my shoulder muscles would have preferred. I can barely lift my arms.
So now this is happening (ice bath with Epsom). Do not want.
I'm way stressing/anxious about my century ride in 29 days. 2 weeks ago I/we rode 74 miles. I felt great, the only issue is the crazy heat which won't be a factor for the race. Last weekend we weren't able to ride because we had my step kids and we had to be in multiple places at once all weekend. This weekend, we planned for 80 miles - even meal planned properly around it - but, there's a hurricane hitting the coast. We're expected to get 10+ inches of rain this weekend. No riding yet again. We still plan to do a long ride, probably 80ish next weekend, but that will be the last long ride. We won't be able to ride 2 weeks out from the century due to kid stuff and then we're a week out which we'll ride, but not super long since it'll be a week before the race. We're riding a couple times during the week, but usually 17 miles, but can push that to about 25-30, maybe. I guess I'm looking for some reassurance that I'll still be able to do this, but I had such a good training plan, but it's totally falling apart here at the end oh and, the race has a cat 4, 5.5 mile climb at mile 60 that's also stressing me out since while we're a little bit hilly, we're essentially flat around here in comparison.
I also realize that I should just be thankful we're only going to be dealing with heavy rain and not the storm surge the coast is going to deal with, which I am, but it's totally screwing with my head!

You'll be ok. I've had a training plan derail in the last month or so and it turned out fine. It happens.

This weekend is the first time in six years I won't be swimming a certain race and I am half tempted to register for the half mile on a whim. But I have an open house tomorrow at noon and I don't think that will work out, timing wise, when you include showering and getting ready. It's kind of a bummer.

I stopped donating first because their emails are so weirdly scammy - stupid headlines like "HILLARY LOSES!" a couple weeks before the election is just not motivating, and they've gotten worse since then.
Then, all this backtracking to try to get the Bernie Bros in line means that they're alienating the moderates like me. Finally, women's rights are a non negotiable. No. You can't make that optional.

I got one when I was a kid (from the Sears catalog!) and absolutely loved it. They are *very* loud. Mom and dad made me keep it in the basement of our two-story home and you could definitely hear it on the first floor. If you can run it in the garage or in a separate building like an electrified shed, I'd do that.

I've been buying Primal Kitchen bars. They're definitely not for the vegetarian/vegan, but they're only 6g of net carbs, only 3 of which are sugar, and they have 15g of protein per bar. So far, I've been eating the coconut cashew and I like them a lot. The downside is that if you don't like monkfruit-sweetened items, you won't like these, as they have a definite monkfruit aftertaste.

Today marks my fourth day in a row of a headache. It's not getting better and is, in fact, getting worse. (Compounded, I'm sure, by the fact that I have to stare at a computer all day.) I'm going to massage this afternoon at 4pm, but I'm considering perhaps going to urgent care this evening in hopes of a pain shot. Last time I did that, it was helpful but I ended up having to be back on migraine meds and I *really* want to avoid that.
