Weird. I was just reading that this happened to Matthew Stafford too (NFL player).
How certain can we be about false positives? I figure it’s way more likely for a test to not detect the virus than it is to think the virus is detected when it’s really not there. Unless the rapid tests might detect another type of coronavirus?
From his Facebook:
“In a second test administered today in Columbus, Governor Mike DeWine has tested negative for COVID-19. First Lady Fran DeWine and staff members have also all tested negative for COVID-19.
A PCR test was administered to the Governor and members of his staff this afternoon. The PCR test looks for the specific RNA for the SARS CoV-2 -- in other words, the genetic material specific for the virus that causes COVID-19. This test is known to be extremely sensitive, as well as specific, for the virus. The PCR tests for the Governor, First Lady, and staff were run two times. They came back negative the first time and came back negative when they were run on a second diagnostic platform.
We feel confident in the results from Wexner Medical Center. This is the same PCR test that has been used over 1.6 million times in Ohio by hospitals and labs all over the state.
The test administered this morning to the Governor in Cleveland, as part of the protocol required to meet the President, was an antigen test. These tests represent an exciting new technology to reduce the cost and improve the turnaround time for COVID-19 testing, but they are quite new, and we do not have much experience with them here in Ohio. We will be working with the manufacturer to have a better understanding of how the discrepancy between these two tests could have occurred.
Out of an abundance of caution, and at the direction of medical professionals, the Governor and First Lady plan on having another PCR test on Saturday. Results of these tests will also be released.“
I love that he can't stay with his family. The passive aggressive "woe is me, you want me to sleep on the streets" thing is as equally amusing. What a baby.
I'm not sure who sent the hand sanitizer, but I am grateful and appreciative! It'll help keep me and my students safe while still enabling them to get to check out books.
Also me!
Thank you! <3 Truly. My students will still be coming to library and have to sanitize before book selection, so it helps.
I have a chiari malformation. It's a fancy word for when brain tissue extends out of your skull down toward your spine. It's mild and mostly just causes headaches. My son ended up with it, too.
My 16 y/o dd has chiari. Thank goodness she doesn't need surgery but she will go through headachey stages. How old is your son? We just found out less than 2 years ago that my dd has it. She has another genetic disorder that she was getting an MRI for because it causes tumors so when she had constant headaches we were really worried.
He was five when it was discovered during an MRI for something else. He's twelve now and has been pretty unaffected by it thus far.

Brook/Moving Comfort. They just changed things up though. I bought one of the new Dare styles and it's okay. It does the job and if I didn't have my old Moving Comfort styles to compare it to, I'd think it was great. It's just that the old ones were better.

We’re returning in two weeks and I’m freaked out. I lost my library position in my last district due to cuts and was lucky enough to get picked up by a neighboring district, but it means I don’t qualify for FMLA.
I need gloves and sanitizer for handling books. I’ve stocked up on masks and face shields. :/
Steph, you had 2 gloves entries on your wishlist--one was not available at all, and the other one wouldn't let me ship it to you using the "wishlist" function--it was asking me to enter your shipping address (which I don't know, lol). If you pick out another type, tag me and I'll send them out to you.
Love from one librarian to another.
Thank you for the heads up! I made adjustments. And thank you so much for The Undefeated. I'm so glad to be able to add it to the library and share it with students. <3
A friend of mine is a teacher and she made a post that teachers are front line workers so suck it up and go to work. (Paraphrasing) I disagree so wholeheartedly that it’s taking all of my will power not to comment.
Ugh, yes.
The district I live in is beginning the year with a three week hybrid approach where half the students attend 2x a week and then do distance learning assignments 2x a week while the other half attends in person. People are losing their minds because childcare and teachers should be essential and if teachers are only working half the time, they should only have to pay half their property taxes.
Also, how dare the district require masks, especially at recess.
1. I've never counted. Maybe one in our full bathroom, but I doubt we go through an entire roll in the kid bathroom or half bath. It's two adults and 1 kid.
2. No, but if he's hungry after our meal, he needs to eat leftovers before snacking.

The third episode and last episode have been haunting me since I watched them. How in the world did Alonso's friends leave him behind? And those poor sisters. Mom is messed up.
Yep! They fit me (fairly small face for an adult) and my H (large face and full beard). I prefer pleats to fitted, personally, and think they fit a wider range of sizes. The nose piece isn’t perfect, and I still get some fogging on my glasses sometimes. But they’re the best I’ve tried so far.
Nerdwax will help with fogging if you put a little on the top of your mask. I use it in the winter.
I ordered Rockin Green Athletic Wear detergent bc I was intrigued by the FB ads of brown water. It is a MIRACLE. I’ve done all my athletic wear, sheets, towels, and my husbands grungy Phillies hat. It’s seriously the best thing ever.
ETA: I am the worlds sweatiest person and despite me taking very good care of my workout stuff (most of which is relatively new, mostly high quality and not worn in places where I’d get particularly dirty) the water when I soaked was DISGUSTING. Dark brown. Towels which have been musty forever have no odor. Sheets feel crisp. I can’t even talk about the hat without gagging.
This! I bought it for my own athletic gear and it’s good stuff. I stripped it in the tub first and was disgusted by the color of the water after.

Lots of good advice here! Our favorite purchases: Blackstone griddle. We removed the propane tank and purchased a line to plug it into the propane outlet in our outdoor kitchen. Cast iron kindling splitter Furrion observation camera
Consider rekeying everything. The keys aren’t unique the way house keys are.
Agree with the recommendations to leave it stocked with the basics.
stephm0188 do you mind sharing where the running shoes are on clearance? I need news bad!
Just some clothes. Old navy Jersey swing dresses. Angle thick skirts from zululi Clothes for the kids and lots of pool stuff since we aren’t going anywhere
Running shoes.. like, three pairs. They're clearance and I'm marathon training. A bunch of new books that I consider must-haves that my new school does not own. A teacher planner for the new school year, ordered before all the EC stuff came out. Sticker paper, because I don't want to spend anymore money at EC, so I've been using my Cricut to make stickers for my new planner.
They are, but I haven't been able to get in all morning.
The Salute tickets were extended. We bought 6 day tickets, and our upcoming November trip is a quick weekend racecation, so I'm not sure what we're going to do just yet.
We bought a travel trailer last summer after renting a popup the summer before that. The popup helped us determine that we did enjoy camping, but we didn't love the setup/teardown that a popup required.
We shopped around casually for awhile. We wanted to keep it within a certain weight range, and there were particular features we wanted- (Murphy bed, outdoor kitchen, double bunks, no slide.) We already live in a fixer upper of a house and decided we didn't really want a fixer upper camper, so it made sense for us personally to buy new and get what we wanted. Since it was new, we really haven't had to do anything aside from seasonal stuff.
We store it on a friend's farm and pay $10 a month.
We keep it stocked with dedicated dishes and linens, and all that stuff definitely adds up. Some of it we were able to re-purpose from items we had in our home, but we did have to purchase quite a bit.
We use it a lot though, both for local camping trips and out of state vacations. It's been a good purchase for us.
We did this, too. I’ve gotten a succulent with a note that said “distance learning succs”, and as box of Cheryls cookies. Cheryl’s came with a big label that said who sent it, but I love their cookies so much I didn’t care.

"I get to do this."
Mostly applies when I'm running, but I use it for other areas of life, too. I came from a background where I had nothing and recognize the very privileged life I have now. (I don't have to go to the dentist. I get to go, because I have insurance and the means to pay for it.)
The basket is super easy to remove from the bracket, so I can lift the whole thing off and take it with me. The mesh at the bottom keeps stuff from falling out.
My school is stuck on doing the traditional once a week drop the class off model so teachers can have planning time.
I hate it. Loathe. Despise.
Ideally, my schedule would be completely flex and it would be a collaborative venture between myself and the classroom teacher. Alas... no.
Right now, we read a story, do a lesson, check out, and they have access to literacy centers after checking out. We don't do Makerspace because we have a STEM program. I'm not opposed to Makerspace, but I do think admin tend to put too much emphasis on it at the sake of a thriving reading culture. There's space for both if you balance it.
