I would definitely be happy to pay more for something that works and lasts. Thankfully there seem to be a ton of medical derms near my work that have good reviews.
I was going to suggest this also. I am still considering getting this done again, but I would go to a doctor this time. I think the lasers in the "laser clinics" are just not very great.
For those of you saying it didn't really work for you and its growing back worse:
What is your skin/hair coloring like? i.e. - pale skin/dark hair, tan skin/dark hair, pale/blonde hair, etc.
Before you got the laser treatment, how fast did your hair generally grow?
Apparently I was an "ideal candidate" (they said so on my first visit) because I have pale skin with dark hair. The first day, the technician said that I "am one of the lucky ones who might get by with just four or five treatments"...yeah right. Prior to laser it grew fast - like, ideally I would shave every single day. I cannot wax (super sensitive to it). I had six laser treatments and it is WORSE now than it was before. They then said that sometimes it takes up to 10 treatments, but I wasn't willing to pony up even more money for it. I know people who this has worked great for, but I am not one of them. My friend had her underarms done around the same time as me and hers didn't stick, either.
I think the fact that it is so popular and accessible now has lowered the quality and effectiveness.

I had the whole thing done. It doesn't hurt that bad, except in one particular sensitive area.
I don't know if I'd recommend laser or not, though. It did not work for me at all, and after six sessions of it, I think my hair is growing back with a vengeance.

I really like Lush deodorant powders. I use the coconut one and it works great...though I live in a dry climate, so it may not be as great in high-humidity areas.

It's been a really, really long time since I have been to Galveston, and from what I've heard it has changed a lot (for the better). I thought it was pretty ok when I went. I liked Moody Gardens - we went there like the same week it opened, and I think it has a lot more to offer now. When I went it was just the rainforest pyramid.
Other than that, I don't know a whole lot about Galveston, but their website looks pretty extensive! www.galveston.com

I have a soft spot for Texas, but I can't imagine living there again. However, traveling there for work several times a year has made me appreciate some of the awesome things Texas has to offer: In Austin - *Black Swan yoga studio followed by Black Star Co-op *All the lakes! *Barton Springs *Ski Shores/Hula Hut/The Oasis *well...there's a lot in Austin. I like many things about Austin.
Within an hourish of Austin - *Hill Country area - Kerrville, Fredericksburg, Enchanted Rock *Floating the rivers in New Braunfels, Gruene, San Marcos, Canyon Lake, etc. *SCHLITTERBAHN...and New Braunfels in general - Landa Park is nice *Driving along Devil's Backbone and getting lost on backroads *Marble Falls/Lake Buchanan *Smithville
Then there's San Antonio - *riverwalk *Fiesta (it's already over this year, but totally worth going to NIOSA at least once) *Sea World/Fiesta Texas *old houses/historic area (fun to look at)
Houston mostly blows, but Rice Village is worth checking out.
Dallas/Ft. Worth - limited experience here.
Corpus Christi - grew up there. Beaches are hit and miss, but can be really nice. Padre Island National Seashore is nice, I like it in the fall especially. October is the best time to visit. The Yardarm restaurant on Ocean Dr. is a great place to have a bottle or two of wine on the patio and eat delicious seafood. Nice bike ride all along the bay with paths. Cafe Phoenix and Shells in Port Aransas...holy crap. Some of the best food I've ever had.
Further away - *West Texas is neat. I like the desert/desolate feel of it. The windmills are crazy. *Marfa/Big Bend *El Paso is supposed to be really cool, though I've never been *avoid Lubbock at all costs (ha)
Even Further - Louisiana & New Mexico are worth checking out. And of course, now that I am fully in love with Colorado and will probably never leave here, I have all kinds of advice about CO. haha.
OK, obviously I've spent some time exploring Texas. It still has sucky parts about it, but it's not that terrible. Sorry for the novel.
If you're going to eat them tomorrow, just pop in the fridge - no need to freeze.
Freeze the cooked form , for future reference - the texture gets weird when you boil frozen raw ones, and they start to disintegrate while cooking.
This was not my experience, I actually liked the texture of the frozen then boiled ones. I agree with not needing to freeze if you're just going to eat them tomorrow. Most recipes make kind of a huge batch, though, so you may need to freeze anyway. I would definitely give them a good dusting of flour before freezing.
i just went and bought one last weekend bc all the research i did said that any of the alternatives to the potato ricer just did not cut it. i'm excited to try it!
the next thing on my wish list is the pasta attachment for my kitchenaid mixer!
Your research led you to truth! haha. It's a fun tool, though a rarely-used one (at least in my kitchen). I also want the pasta attachment, but I fear that I would never use it after the new wears off...or, on the other hand, that I would use it all the time and gain 200 lbs from all the delicious fresh pasta.

Yes, I have. I did not boil them before freezing. Just freeze them in their uncooked form, and then boil them from a frozen state when you are ready to eat them.
They are SUPER time consuming, but worth it IMO. Also, a potato ricer makes a world of difference in the texture. Worth it.

I was just thinking about this. The only thing I can come up with is that when they were first getting popular (70s/80s), it was still somewhat taboo to be gay and it would be nearly impossible to come out now after a lifetime of living a lie...but that's just my guess.

Ha, ok I ordered some. Fuck it. I'm tempted to go grab the SH ones also, and use them on one foot and jamberry on the other to compare how they hold up. But then I'd have to walk around with two different feet, and that may be weird.
Post by walterismydog on May 31, 2012 14:44:56 GMT -5
Yeah, I was kind of wondering how they compared to the SH ones. Supposedly one sheet of these will last for 2-3 applications, so I think they end up being similarly priced (since the SH ones are only for one application).

OK, normally I despise those pyramid-schemey parties, but my friend just started selling these Jamberry nail shields and there are a ton of cute designs. Have you tried these? If so, are they good quality and worth it? It's hard to find reviews online, I think these are pretty new.
