News rumors are that Republicans going to try to convene a (something - can't remember the right term) tonight to vote internally on their choice for Speaker. It looks like McCarthy is going to try again, and is being supported by a faction in his efforts. None of the 3 that have come forward (Jordan, Scalise, & McCarthy) have the votes right now to be elected.
Ken Buck was just interviewed on MSNBC that he anticipates it will be tonight or tomorrow. It sounds like they’re trying to get things shored up before bringing it to the floor for another 15 round clown show.
I just heard on MSNBC that Scalise has just now announced that he is withdrawing his name because he doesn’t t think he will be able to get the necessary votes. Apparently he’s not a masochist like McCarthy.

This doesn’t surprise me because a news report I heard about 2 hours ago mentioned that he was down about 100 votes.
What a mess! They pull this crap, can’t get it together, and then wonder why people are upset - there’s stuff going on that “YOU” need to deal with!!
When the CR expires in November the government may never reopen…
I actually think this shitshow somewhat increases the likelihood that Schumer will be in a good negotiating position when it comes time to pass the budget. Whoever the Speaker is they are likely not going to hold the caucus together and have any sort of discipline so the chances that GOP fractures to vote with Dems so the shutdown doesn’t happen feels way more plausible.
