Counterpoint: he has the ability to give insight into why people cling to their guns. In ways that may get us to move the ball, which hasn't really happened since the assault weapons ban in 1994.


Eta: I'd love a total ban. But we're not Australia or Japan. We're saddled with a janky constitution and years of wack ass USSC opinions further expanding what the 2A protects. And a statistical impossibility of repealing that amendment. So, which fucking sucks, we're stuck with limited possible change.

That picture was actually taken at a really cool farm to table restaurant. You go outback and pick your pig and they turn it into your breakfast meat of choice right on the spot.

I'd also add that as a vegetarian of 25 years, the proportion of pheasant hunters who respect the sacrifice of the animal's life is far higher than that of, say, the Tyson Board of Directors or your average McDonalds consumer.

I really think he’s going to be a terrific unifier. He speaks plainly but has a lot of energy, was a teacher and in the National Guard, taught in China and on a Native American reservation, has fought for women’s right to choose and for LGBTQ rights, and has tightened gun laws and improved workers’ rights.

I think he’s going to appeal to both progressives and moderate / conservative never Trumpers

I was really on the Beshear bandwagon, but it's honestly hard to not love this guy just by looking at that photo. Also this obviously means Beshear is going to take the turtle's seat when he retires and I'm here for that.

I think he was eliminated really early on because of this. There are way fewer people that can take an R seat in KY than are qualified to be VP.

So I feel like I try to stay on top of the news and whatever but I honestly had never heard of this guy. But the more I dig in, I think he's a really good fit.

I'm always on my soapbox but with volunteering for Moms Demand Action, I actually like his stance on gun laws. It's what I try to push to people in my very pro-gun state (Arkansas) - that you can have your guns but we need to be smart about it. I can go on for days - and we actually have a meeting tonight so I'll be interested to see what people have to say.

My friend texted me this morning that Harris Walz sounds like a fun dance move and I can't unthink it now, LOL.

I saw a TikTok (I need to find confirmation) that was saying republicans are polling better(by like 11%) than they are performing. There was a theory there that I won’t get in to but if that’s true it will be amazing since most polls I’ve seen have Harris either tied or slightly above Trump in the swing states.

ETA - I can’t find any sources to verify they poll better than they perform so you can disregard.
