I just read that his name is pronounced “Walls.” If so, there must be something a smart speech or ad writer can work with comparing Trumps. Wall to our Waltz.

I'm not watching, but I'm glad he's fired up. Apparently one of the narratives the Rs are pushing is that Shapiro wasn't picked because he's pro-Israel and not progressive enough (see thehill.com for many of these articles). Having him enthusiastic about the Harris/Walz ticket crushes that narrative.
I wonder if part of his motivation is to counter the narrative coming from Fetterman’s camp from over the weekend. "Sources" say he contacted Harris's campaign to caution against Shapiro because he would put his own self interets first.
I also skimmed an article- I think from the Hill- saying Fetterman’s concerns were taken seriously by the campaign essentially torpedoing his chance at VP. Will link when i find it again.
Being a PA resident I didn't realize there was animosity since the two but it apparently goes back a few years to a disagreement while Fetterman was Lt Gov and Shapiro was AG.
From what I've seen online and social media, a lot of PA residents have been unhappy with Fetterman for a bunch reasons (one of them being Fetterman's stance on Israel). I don't think this helps do him any favors.
I feel like Walz’ energy and personality really match hers. Between Mommala and Big Dad Energy Walz, they’re like your college roomate’s super-cool parents who made sure you had everything you needed for your room and then took everyone out to dinner.
I know my SM is heavily curated, but wow I have loved watching all the memes across the country. I saw someone post about how Walz handled Covid in the early days and how it comforted them with plans and facts laid out, and I remember it well. He had daily press conferences with experts and it was a stark contrast to 45. LOL for days about free meals in schools and period products. What an insult!
I reposted this quote on IG, but I can't agree more "The world is about to witness how much Minnesotans love a Minnesota thing."
Hahaha, this is SO true.
I think the hierarchy of things Minnesotans love is:
1. Minnesota 2. Other Minnesotans 3. Things with Minnesota written on them 4. Anything with a Minnesota connection.
Apparently he is being accused of being a coward because he retired after 24 years right before his unit (not sure the actual term) was deployed to Iraq.
I also heard something about his pension eligibility but I didn’t understand it and it seemed weird to judge someone’s service based on their pension so I didn’t bother to look into it.
Let me guess, fewer than .0001% of the people accusing him of cowardice served in any branch, understand the reserves at all, understand military retirement processes and procedures, give less than a quarter of a rat's ass about the military service of anyone they agree with politically.
There also seems to be the person in his unit who stepped into his role at the time of his retirement calling him a coward apparently, which is being reported in such winning outlets as the NY Post which I refuse to link here because they're trash.
They are trash. Trump implied Senator John McCain was a “loser” because he was captured and refused release without his fellow soldiers. So i think Cadet Bone Spurs would be impressed by someone who wasn’t in combat.
As far as I can see, Gov Waltz had been very straightforward about his service. I am just imagining those who have all these criticisms are rabid MAGATS. Others who served with him have said he was well liked and respected. I just can’t with these assholes.

Apparently during today’s rally in Eau Claire, it was really hot and someone fainted. Walz stopped his speech, called for water for the person, and waited to continue to speak until he was sure they were okay.
His financial disclosures, both from his final year in Congress and his time as governor, also show no mutual funds, bonds, private equities or other securities. No book deals, speaking fees, crypto or racehorse interests. Not even real estate. Walz and his wife, Gwen, sold their home after moving into the governor's mansion. Their only investment assets appear to be via state pensions, including teacher pensions.

So people shouldn’t complain that he’s the “wealthy elite.” However some people will find something to complain about anyway.
They'll go after the pensions, something about relying on government handouts, he's anti-capitalist therefore socialist, etc.
That financial disclosure is like the most middle class disclosure possible.
OR they’ll attack him for NOT having any of that and say that OBVIOUSLY he doesn’t know how to manage money or he’d have all kinds of investments. How long until they accuse him of having a [insert any vice] problem or something similar because “where else would your money go?”
It’s funny watching people really scramble to try and come up with something to complain about these two. (Personally I LOVE the “word salad” comments about Kamala…as if they haven’t heard their idol speak lately.)
I'm obsessed. She could not have chosen better. I'm low key "damn Minnesota why have you been hiding him from us?" But also I get it because he's such a treasure.
me yesterday: "should I...move to Minnesota??" No it's too cold, lol.

One of my favorite novel detectives is from Mankato and I told H we should take a road trip to MN. In the books he gets to MSP a lot and I would like to go there too. Lol

Only time I've been to MN was in maybe 2010/2011 to go to their IKEA, lol. We also went to the Mall of America. That was before we got an IKEA in KC.

Can confirm minnesotans like minnesota things. One of my favorite novelists writes books set in MN. I dont like ANY other crime/mystery books except his. But MN. (John Sanford).
I was there (and it was amazing). The Philly crowd LOVES Shapiro -- he's local to us and he fixed the bridge. At one point, he had the crowd chanting "we get shit done". I'm not upset that she didn't pick him.
Walz was freaking great. Good speaker, calm and orderly when talking about his business, rallied the crowd over Trump and Vance (his crack about the couch was funny). He even teared up a bit talking about Kamala. She was fire. It was really fun.
I cried 3 different times. What an amazing evening that was.
Also, Philly's mayor? She was PHENOMENAL.
She is wildly unpopular right now, forcing every government employee back to the office 5 days a week. She also cut funding of Project Zero, an initiative to prevent cyclist deaths.
SusanBAnthony. Yes! John Sanford is who I was talking about. Virgil Flowers is from Mankato. Lol. I realize these aren’t real people, but I do love John Sanford novels.
Someone (who I very much don't trust politically) mentioned "controversy about his military service".
I imagine this is a Fox News make up grasp at straws, but does anybody know what's up with that?
he was a command sgt major. This is a big deal.
And as someone bed bound from my period currently I love that he cares enough about this. I was able to talk to my dad about periods. Every man should be able to talk about something that half of us deal with.
They really cannot find anything.
OK, cadet bone spurs. Where's your record of service?

And you live where it's very cold! I'll remember this in February when we have our first female president
Is anyone watching the Kamala rally in Philly? Wow Shapiro is FIRE!!! with his speech.
I kinda get why he wasn’t picked now. He’s great but too much. I don’t think they have similar vibes if that makes sense.
They need him to speak at the convention.

I've seen at least two people now say Shapiro wasn't picked as VP because he's Jewish and I find that really disheartening (no one I know personally, thank goodness). Don't get me wrong unfortunately I know antisemitism is alive and well, but I've seen multiple things in this very thread that were problematic with him being chosen as VP that had nothing to do with his religion. I understand being disappointed that the person you wanted wasn't chosen, but I just don't know that it had anything to do with him being Jewish. If I am wrong, I apologize and feel free to correct me.
I wanted Beshear, but I don't think she could have chosen better than Walz. I really think he's amazing.
