I saw a TikTok (I need to find confirmation) that was saying republicans are polling better(by like 11%) than they are performing. There was a theory there that I won’t get in to but if that’s true it will be amazing since most polls I’ve seen have Harris either tied or slightly above Trump in the swing states.

I might be dumb but how would someone objectively quantify the difference between polling % and performing? Unless that was the theory they delved in to?

My guess is that "performing" means actual results in elections. So, like, in recent elections Republicans look like they'll get more votes in polling but then when actual votes are counted they don't do that well.

It was for example 50% of people polled said they were voting for the republican candidate but in the election they only got 39% of the vote. Saying they performed 11% worse probably isn’t the correct way to quantify it.

Also I have yet to find anything supporting the statement so I will strike my comment from the record.

Walz has spoken openly and publicly about his DUI and his journey away from alcohol.

My husband had a DUI once. He's been sober for 15 years now, and Walz has been sober for almost 30.

Addiction is an illness, and it makes me so angry when the GOP acts like it's a thing people should be ashamed of. The things they've said over the past few years about addiction with regards to the President's son made me sick. Public shaming is not going to encourage people to seek help.

This won't gain traction. The number of people who have a single DUI on their record is huge.

stuffandthings - my dad and mom are both alcoholics who found sobriety in my adulthood and my mom’s rock bottom was a DUI/car crash with multiple vehicles. I also have several very close friends who are sober, one of whom recently also got a DUI.

Finding sobriety shows such strength and it makes him an even stronger candidate in my mind because we have a very long way to go with regard to addiction services. I’m guessing he will be a strong advocate for this.

Yeah this might actually be a slight positive for him because it was a 1 off, 30 years ago, he's fully owned it and he's been sober since. It shows a willingness to own his mistakes and learn from them.

I don't think the DUI will end up being a big deal, especially because of the choices he made after it. Like others have said, there's a lot of people out there who've had 1 DUI. Also, I probably drove a time or two when I was in my early 20s when I shouldn't have and I bet a lot of others have, too. I just didn't get pulled over.

For some reason I love that he's wearing a Springsteen shirt in the state fair video. And that he doesn't look like a ding dong when he's wearing a ball cap.

I’d never even heard of Walz a few weeks ago, but I’m so happy about this pick and I think he was the best choice overall for Harris’ running mate in this campaign, over Kelly and Shapiro. Harris supposedly met with Pete for 90 minutes yesterday (a girl can dream). I wonder what they talked about. He gets a lot of media time in his current position and is doing great work, but I wonder if she has some other position in mind for him.

I’ve already seen several people on social media say Walz represents the dads a lot of women lost to conservative media and the trumpism cult. Like, a man from small town America who supports women / daughters, who can see their perspective and change his stance on issues like guns or drinking. He has a car and he stood up for cat ladies against Vance.
