The best part of my day today was watching the entire GOP flail wildly in a desperate attempt to find something, ANYTHING, to paint Walz in a negative light. “He’s in recovery!” “He feeds children!” “He’s so liberal he wants to end police violence!” They’ve tried about thirty different things today. Nothing works.
The latest one seems to be “he has children and a wife,” which…doesn’t make sense as a line of attack, but there you go.

The one I saw just now was labeling him “tampon Tim”. Why? Because he found out period poverty was in issue in some schools causing girls to miss school while having their periods because they couldn’t afford period products, so he started providing pads and tampons in all public school restrooms.

I mean that’s all you’ve got guys?
I mean, omg, he cares for children. Oh no.
My god the GOP has no fucking clue about basic human needs and they certainly couldn’t find empathy with both hands. There’s a clip of Walz saying something like, I want to give school kids breakfast and lunch so they can learn better. What a monster! He can handle the MAGA clowns with one hand tied behind his back.

Just seen on Threads: Tampon Tim is going to stop the red wave 🤣

The period products in public education buildings in MN are amazing!!!! I cannot even hardly wrap my brain around the mensuration experience in MN today compared to when i first got my period. Pads and tampons just sitting in every bathroom. Thanks Tim!

We had to ask to go to the nurse and then ask the nurse for them.

Our local Trumpster can't come up with anything mean to say about him, so she has been posting things on Biden's photos like "Sorry your party threw you to the wolves!"
As if 1) he's reading it and 2) he cares about your empathy as you vote for Trump
Someone (who I very much don't trust politically) mentioned "controversy about his military service".
I imagine this is a Fox News make up grasp at straws, but does anybody know what's up with that?
Sounds like it is BS. He left before his third or fourth re-up was done to run for governor. Another fellow soldier said that after the first enlistment, one could walk at any time. So he didn’t do anything wrong. He wanted to run for governor. Keep in mind though, that Waltz is a guy who wants to feed school kids, is warm and funny, and helped put tampons in all bathrooms in schools. He’s a monster.

Apparently he is being accused of being a coward because he retired after 24 years right before his unit (not sure the actual term) was deployed to Iraq.
I also heard something about his pension eligibility but I didn’t understand it and it seemed weird to judge someone’s service based on their pension so I didn’t bother to look into it.
Also, in one article I read, the Republicans were having a fit that the period supplies were in all bathrooms, even boys. They are refusing to consider that a trans boy may still get their period. I can’t quote their exact BS, but it boils down to they want everyone to use the restroom of the sex assigned at birth.
His "how I got into politics" story if amazing. He took his HS kids to local Bush rally & they wouldn't let him in b/c a kid had a John Kerry sticker and he got upset that normal people were being kicked out of politics. So he ran as a deep underdog in a conservative district & all his kids/former students supported him. He was against the Iraq war & pro-LGBTQ in 2006.

Yes - I’m not sure if it was mentioned up tread but he helped start a GayStraightAlliance at his school when one of his gay students came to him about being bullied over his sexuality. He thought have the football coach (and players) on board would go a long way

Congress, not governor, but yes. Also, his second kid was either just born or just about to be born.
I know my SM is heavily curated, but wow I have loved watching all the memes across the country. I saw someone post about how Walz handled Covid in the early days and how it comforted them with plans and facts laid out, and I remember it well. He had daily press conferences with experts and it was a stark contrast to 45. LOL for days about free meals in schools and period products. What an insult!
I reposted this quote on IG, but I can't agree more "The world is about to witness how much Minnesotans love a Minnesota thing."

Let me guess, fewer than .0001% of the people accusing him of cowardice served in any branch, understand the reserves at all, understand military retirement processes and procedures, give less than a quarter of a rat's ass about the military service of anyone they agree with politically.

Yes, sorry. And was re-elected to that spot several times before becoming gov.
I think it's funny that the national press is having issues defining Walz. Most of the articles just sort of end up with, "He's a nice and regular guy? Almost like he's human? What do we do with this?"
I'm obsessed. She could not have chosen better. I'm low key "damn Minnesota why have you been hiding him from us?" But also I get it because he's such a treasure.

Wellllll. Some of them go around killing their pets so they're not really into things like looking out for others (even/especially those who can't look out for themselves).

I love this so hard. @@ and *TW Student Sexual and LGBTQ Harassment*
When I was in HS, I really struggled with being chesty after being completely flat 2 years prior. My freshman year I was jogging with my 32DDs and the rest of my tennis class around the outer perimeter of the courts, which included running right by the JV football team, and running between two posts. Every time I circled around I heard taunts of, "Damn girl - where'd you get those boulder holders?" and "TOUCH DOWN" every time i ran between the posts. My coach went over to tell the football coach to tell his boys to shut up and the football coach laughed and called him a p***y. The boys got worse from there.
Then a varsity coach, who happened to be a teacher at my elementary school when I was in 2nd grade and remembered me as soon as he saw me freshman year, stepped in and told them to knock it off or face some sort of harsh exercise (can't recall the name) and they finally quit.
FF to a few years ago my kid being called a dyke by senior football players as a freshman because she was sitting outside the GSA class, which was across the hall from the football locker rooms. The GSA teacher told the coach who immediately stepped in to say it was wrong, and it was a totally different tone and supportive experience for my kid.

Re: him being a regular guy, I'm mildly curious where he's gotten money to run for congress and for governor, outside of fundraising. We hear a lot about how personally expensive it is to run for office, and it definitely seems like he does not have access to wealth like a lot of other politicians, which is part of makes him so great and so relatable.
Is anyone watching the Kamala rally in Philly? Wow Shapiro is FIRE!!! with his speech.
I kinda get why he wasn’t picked now. He’s great but too much. I don’t think they have similar vibes if that makes sense.
They need him to speak at the convention.
I was there (and it was amazing). The Philly crowd LOVES Shapiro -- he's local to us and he fixed the bridge. At one point, he had the crowd chanting "we get shit done". I'm not upset that she didn't pick him.
Walz was freaking great. Good speaker, calm and orderly when talking about his business, rallied the crowd over Trump and Vance (his crack about the couch was funny). He even teared up a bit talking about Kamala. She was fire. It was really fun.
I cried 3 different times. What an amazing evening that was.
I'm not watching, but I'm glad he's fired up. Apparently one of the narratives the Rs are pushing is that Shapiro wasn't picked because he's pro-Israel and not progressive enough (see thehill.com for many of these articles). Having him enthusiastic about the Harris/Walz ticket crushes that narrative.
I wonder if part of his motivation is to counter the narrative coming from Fetterman’s camp from over the weekend. "Sources" say he contacted Harris's campaign to caution against Shapiro because he would put his own self interets first.
I also skimmed an article- I think from the Hill- saying Fetterman’s concerns were taken seriously by the campaign essentially torpedoing his chance at VP. Will link when i find it again.
Being a PA resident I didn't realize there was animosity since the two but it apparently goes back a few years to a disagreement while Fetterman was Lt Gov and Shapiro was AG.
Wow this is a bummer. I hadn't realized there was beef between them but this story is not flattering to Fetterman and makes him seem petty. If true, I'm also surprised that he has the standing to torpedo Shapiro's chances at anything.
I think Walz was simply a better choice in this match up. Harris is already a west coast lawyer, she didn't need to add an east coast lawyer to the team. Everything about Walz is a perfect complement for her.
