I'm obsessed. She could not have chosen better. I'm low key "damn Minnesota why have you been hiding him from us?" But also I get it because he's such a treasure.
me yesterday: "should I...move to Minnesota??" No it's too cold, lol.
Can confirm minnesotans like minnesota things. One of my favorite novelists writes books set in MN. I dont like ANY other crime/mystery books except his. But MN. (John Sanford).
An episode of Coach mentioned my hometown once and it was all people could talk about for weeks.

When they made that movie about all the bachelors in one of the towns between yours and mine, everyone acted as a if it was our town and was talk for months

I was there (and it was amazing). The Philly crowd LOVES Shapiro -- he's local to us and he fixed the bridge. At one point, he had the crowd chanting "we get shit done". I'm not upset that she didn't pick him.
Walz was freaking great. Good speaker, calm and orderly when talking about his business, rallied the crowd over Trump and Vance (his crack about the couch was funny). He even teared up a bit talking about Kamala. She was fire. It was really fun.
I've seen at least two people now say Shapiro wasn't picked as VP because he's Jewish and I find that really disheartening (no one I know personally, thank goodness). Don't get me wrong unfortunately I know antisemitism is alive and well, but I've seen multiple things in this very thread that were problematic with him being chosen as VP that had nothing to do with his religion. I understand being disappointed that the person you wanted wasn't chosen, but I just don't know that it had anything to do with him being Jewish. If I am wrong, I apologize and feel free to correct me.
I wanted Beshear, but I don't think she could have chosen better than Walz. I really think he's amazing.
Is the antisemitism narrative being talked about by republicans or democrats? I know Trump tried to push the “she hates Jewish people” narrative even though she is married to a Jewish man, so I wouldn’t be surprised if his followers were continuing to spout that.

This was my dad's favorite author and my mom still has shelves full of his books (my dad died a few years ago). He grew up in St. Paul and loved that the books all contained references that he could picture.
And pugz , we all just hibernate in the winter. Like bears. Unless you're an active person who likes winter activities like my husband. Weird.

I don't think it's so much that he's Jewish -- more than his stance on Gaza has been very pro-Israel and, as we know, this is not necessarily a position a lot of folks in the Democrat party agree with.
For sure, Republicans are pushing the "she hates Jews and Israel" narrative, but we all know that's bullshit.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
If anyone has a HS senior freaking out about college admissions, perhaps inform them that Tim Walz, who in January will become a heartbeat away from being the leader of the free world, went to Chadron State College for undergrad.
So…work hard, be a good person. It will all work out.
Someone (who I very much don't trust politically) mentioned "controversy about his military service".
I imagine this is a Fox News make up grasp at straws, but does anybody know what's up with that?
he was a command sgt major. This is a big deal.
And as someone bed bound from my period currently I love that he cares enough about this. I was able to talk to my dad about periods. Every man should be able to talk about something that half of us deal with.
They really cannot find anything.
OK, cadet bone spurs. Where's your record of service?
So, based on what a friend of my who is enlisted said, he was E-8, Master Sargent, not Sargent major (e-9). And he chose retirement versus the promotion to E9
Walz retired in 2005 as a master sergeant because “he did not complete additional coursework at the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy,” Augé said. Command sergeants major who don’t complete the Sergeants Major Course revert back to their prior rank, she explained.
